With all the talk about the better version, PS3 or 360, and all the moaning about little graphical issues in both, and all the moaning about how this little thing isn't quite right, and all this talk about it being evolution and not revolution and all this talk about how the manual isn't great and all this talk about this being boring or that being boring...

What we've learned is that games are fantastic and gamers are fucking arseholes.

Yeah, you try telling the game that with the Little Jacob side-missions where you get shot to shit as soon as the game gives you control.

You must be shit at games.

The only time I've really needed body armour so far is a mission where you're given it at the start. Before then I didnt even know there was body armour. It's not even a case of using cover. If you kill everyone as soon as you see them, thats it.

The little Jacob Missions have been ace shootouts :o

This evening I had an amazing gunfight. In a GTA game. I love being able to say that.

Park. Thunderstorm. Taking cover behind trees. Taking shots. Running to new cover. Screams and pleading from the injured. Niko triumphant with the tiniest sliver of health left.

Pity the corpses disappeared so quickly, but you can't have everything.

Yeah, I guess we should really be lapping up the product of gaming companies like idiot serfs grateful for their largesse, rather than intelligent consumers of their wares able to enjoy things fully whilst retaining a critical eye.

Truest thing posted in this thread.

Well aside from all of the praise for the game.

Yes, some people are worse at games than others. What an insightful revelation. I mean, here I was thinking everyone was the same, and you come along and shatter my world! It's like someone switched on a light or something. I really am amazed that I never noticed before. Someone should call the media.

Or, maybe, games should be playable regardless of the players skill level.

Hmm. Taking Michelle to a cabaret show didn't have the desired effect. Ah, well. I had sex with her twice already anyway.

The show was pretty funny actually, something that can be said about the entire game so far. Love playing pool as well.

This doesn't make any sense.

Never mind, though. Amazing game!

Sorry to bother everyone with something so trivial, but I need a picture of Michelle, and I can't seem to find one. Just a nice portrait shot, bigger than an avatar (it's not for an avatar). I was telling a friend of mine about the game, only for her to think that I had genuinely dated someone called Michelle, so I need to do an introduction. Anyone able to help?

Guys, quick question...

I've found a really cool car, and I parked it at Ramon's while I did a couple of taxi runs, then went back to the safe house to save up and sleep. Will it be there when I get back? If not, is there any way of finding a decent car and then keeping it somewhere? At the start of the game it mentioned something about 'saving' a car, but can't remember exactly what it said.

Park it in the Resident's Parking bit outside your lock-up and it'll stay there if you sleep.

Did you park in the yellow box?

Sales data is in. 360 sells 55% and 45% for PS3!

GTA IV smashes day one sales recordTim Ingham Today, 5:22pm

ChartTrack data shows game is now UK’s fastest-selling title in 24 hour period

Data obtained by MCV from official UK industry monitor ChartTrack shows that Rockstar’s GTA IV has become the fastest selling game ever in a 24 hour period.

The figures – based on EPoS sales data and estimated retail transactions – show that total online and High Street sales for the game hit 609,000 in one day.

That beats the previous record of 501,000 set by another Rockstar title, GTA: San Andreas, on Friday, 29th October, 2004.

Xbox 360 narrowly nudged out PS3 in the ‘battle of the consoles’.

335,000 copies were sold on Microsoft’s machine – 55 per cent of sales and a new record for the console, beating Halo 3’s first-day sales of 266,000 units on Wednesday, September 26th, 2007.

GTA IV sold 274,000 copies on PS3 yesterday – 45 per cent of all sales and another format record breaking performance.

PS3’s previous biggest day-one seller was Sony's Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, which released on Friday, March 28th with 80,000 sales.

“We’ll get into the whole week one debate next Tuesday, but it’s been a very good 24 hours for both Sony and Microsoft,” ChartTrack director Dorian Bloch told MCV.

“It’s looking very, very promising for Rockstar in terms of full week sales. If they don’t even sell one more unit, it’s still an astounding week one performance. Barring a catastrophe, with lorries bringing stock into stores going AWOL, we can only see that sales number going up and up.

“The Bank Holiday weekend should be a particularly fruitful period – but it will be interesting to see how long the stock lasts as people rush to stores.”

I would say that the important part in terms of sales analysis would be that the PS3 has kept up with 360 despite having half the installed base. It's good news for Sony as I would imagine they need some good news when it comes to 3rd parties. It also adds coal the flames that Sony are quickly catching up with MS and this is indeed the year of the PS3.

Halo 3 has taken a beating as well, with GTA4 taking its crown for fastest 360 sales. CJ on the other hand, hands his baton over to Niko. CJ was always a hateful prick, and Niko is a lot more charismatic.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue also loses its crown....by a large margin! :o

I think it's fair to complain about the missions. Don't you think they could be so much more? It's like....there's this amazing environment, and then a lot of it doesn't get used for anything really. I know a big part of the game is making your own scenarios but that doesn't entirely excuse it. I'm hoping the missions get better, but I think they're quite a bit less interesting than the stuff you were given to do in, say, Oblivion. And I didn't even really like Oblivion because of the setting and the characters and the dialogue and the story and everything. But there was tons of interactivity and loads of cool side quests and meaty side missions. Put them together and you'd have a great game.

I'm just a little disappointed in the level of interactivity still. It's still very restrictive in a lot of ways. If I go for a drink, why won't it let me go inside, drink and stagger around drunk inside? Why does it just cut to me a few hours later standing outside? The strip clubs and cabaret have bars with barmen inside the venues, so why can't I buy anything when I'm there. Just weird things like that don't make sense to me. Maybe I'm guilty of wanting the moon on a stick but, bringing up Oblivion again, you could do a lot more in so many different places.

And those constant little prompts along the bottom of the screen, even when it's for something you've done 10 times before. It's worse than most modern Nintendo games in that regard. Most missions I feel like I'm just following a handful of written instructions on the bottom of the screen telling me how to walk, scratch my arse, get in the car, get out of the car, walk into an arrow, shoot some bad guys....stuff that should just be relayed through characters speaking to you. And the missions have been so simple as to not even need such levels of handholding, it's all just drive from point A to point B, pick someone or something up, drive to point C, kill two gormless guys standing in an alleyway and then drive the person home.

I suppose being a bit disappointed in the game makes me a cunt in some of your eyes though :o

With his post count, I assumed he was hardcore.

Besides, the little jacob shoot outs never have more than 3 Rastas with shitty pistols. He's nit picking the game, rather than his own ability.
