Another awesome little thing: Say you've got a 2 star wanted level. You're still in the 'cop circle', but you can't actually see any of them at that moment. But you do hear a lovely, sort of distant 'police sirens in the city' sound :)

YES! On that mission where you have to steal a cop car, as soon as I left the house I heard a distant wailing - one was pulling into the street to chase a burglar or something. It was early morning so it was the only sound around, and I could hear it miles away.

SO atmospheric. I was in Glasgow City Centre yestrday which in terms of layout and architecture looks a bit like some of the older parts of NY, and realised just how authentic and real-feeling the game is. Even the fact there's an ugly skyscraper in Dukes badly placed among smaller buildings is quite authentic to modern cities. Lovely.

Also, Brucie is exactly like a mate of mine.

It also reminded me of TWAT Cafe.

Is that place still around?

I remember going there for a fry-up on Sunday mornings before playing football (a bad habit) and my cousin used to DJ there some evenings.

Dunno if it's still there I've moved away...and, bizarely a good friend of mine used to DJ there too. Steve? By any chance?

Was cruising around in the helicopter earlier and found the rocket launcher, so for anyone who is onto the second island and wants to know where the rocket launcher is its:-

At the very top of the second island if you zoom in you'll see two islands, the closer of the two and the one coincidentally shaped like a comedy school drawing of a cock had the launcher on it

Enjoy taking the poilice copters out.

I haven't met Brucie in my game and don't think I will. Roman sent a text saying Brucie was over but then I went out with Michelle and did

a few missions for Vlad, then killed Vlad

and now I'm doing stuff for

Little Jacob and Faustin

... so did I miss the Brucie story arc entirely?

I can't imagine that you've lost your chance. He's got some cool missions, too.

Fun fact: Glasgow's been used as New York in several films, particularly around the Art School. Then again its also been used for Moscow too.

Yeah, there's a 70s Harvey Keitel movie which was shot around Garnethill and Glasgow Cathedral areas. It looks really odd, actually, as it's before all the buildings were cleaned up so it's all sooty and grimy and cool.

I can't wait to reach Alonquin actually. I keep looking lustfully across the water.

Me too. I hope I didn't

kill Vlad (?)

too early.

I just did the porno shop mission, and as Crispin said, it's fantastic.

After I shot that pornstar in the head, and Faustin walked out, I pointed my handgun at the other pornstar who had fell to his knees and shot him in the face, taking particular delight in that his brains splattered the couch behind him.

I love it.

Everyone is probably doing stuff like this, but I had a nice drink with Little Jacob at Comrades on sunday afternoon. Ouside we're both wasted and stumbling over each other, the curb and passers by. I got a hotdog while LJ blazed away, then figured I was sober enough to drive - my stolen hummer was swerving all over the place, smashing into other cars etc. The cops spotted me drunk driving and pursued but I lost them. Got LJ back home in the end. I love this kind of thing :)

Okay, so if you change cars out of sight, is that effectively a 'disguise'? Can you drive past cops while still in 'the circle' and they won't ID you?

The cops definitely do have a 'line of sight' thing going on rather than magic knowledge of where you are. I was trying to escape from the circle earlier, and got quite near the edge before I reached the sea. Trapped, I hid behind some steps and watched on the radar as the cops congregated at my last known position and proceded to fan out. I waited ages for an opening, but eventually they searched the area where I was hiding. A cop wandered in front of me, but because his back was facing me, it wasn't until he turned that I was in trouble. I dropped him and a couple of others blocking my exit and high-tailed it.

Yep. It works like changing your disguise in Hitman. Quite satisfying when you pull it off.

And you can't hail cabs until a certain point. I think you may have to get drunk first to 'unlock' it, I can't remember.

Apologies for this because it's been asked a million times before and lost in the plethora of GTA:IV chatter. How do you hail a cab on the PS3 version? I tried L1 a few times but drivers are giving me a dingy.

You need to gain the ability first and then make sure its not on a fare already.

Once the above holds true L1 should allow you to hail the taxi and HOLD triangle to get in as a passenger.

I've taken to avoiding using the GPS as it hampers experiencing and 'learning' the city. A bit like Burnout Paradise in that regard.

This is defintiely recommended, it just feels so much more satifying finding your own routes through the city. You also definitely learn the lay of the land a lot better. After about 12+ hours of play Im finally getting to know my way around the first island properly.

For that one as soon as I left the house I just dialed 911 hid up a corner waited for the fuzz to arrive and look around, then nicked off with their car. Perfect.

As for the extras like Pigeons and Weapons on the map I cant beileve how well hidden they are.. Ive fully explored a fair chunk of the first island and have still only stumbled across 5 pigeons. Having said that it helps add to the more realistic atmosphere by not having every back ally or dark corner housing an AK47. Same can be said for the Vigilante and Cab missions they just feels that little bit less arcadey because of the way they have been implimented. I like it.

It's a little odd, but you can take out the police copters very easily by simply

shooting the guy who's sat at the door shooting at you

and then the chopper

turns around so the guy at the other door can shoot you

, just do the same to him, and then

the chopper simply falls to the ground

.

At least, that's what happened when I first encountered one whilst

stood on the top of one of the cranes in Algonquin

.

I found the tutorial round the airport a nightmare.
Same. I aced the reload, then rode the motorbike straight into the water, failed the tutorial, and went back to driving cars into things.

I started the tutorial, exited immediately and it had warped me in the actual game from where I was to the airport with no car. Is this right? Seems a bit fucking daft.
