GTA:IV Official Thread

I thought the filter on the graphics looked pretty nasty at first, both up close and in the distance, but playing with the brightness/contrast sliders a bit got me to the stage where the game looks completely amazing, both at night and during the day. It's worth playing about with it a bit.

.. a few police cars and an ambulance just sped through the street outside my office, all sirens and everything...my first reaction was to look at the upper right corner of my spreadsheet to see how many wanted stars I had

Perhaps a little less GTA tonight, then...

Are you foo's not rocking Body Armour? It's a must and I nearly went broke buying the more expensive ones ($500) from the first gunshop you uncover!

Lucky that Lil Jacob sells his kevlar for less than half that price!

I've done 100% of LJ's missions and when I phone him, I always get his machine. How can I unlock Kevlar bargain goodness?

As with all GTAs previously, driving is great. I don't know what all the hoopla is about regarding the cams, but if you need the bonnet cam you're a noob!

I never liked the driving in GTAs before, I love it in IV though. It's wasn't even that I tried the chase cam, I immediately checked if there was a bonnet cam and was instantly at home. It's more like Driver, only there's no burnout button.

Since messing around with the cameras for the other vehicles I just find none of them look right in 3rd person.

It's all preference though, I'm a strictly 'in-car' camera guy in every game except OutRun.

I can't remember exactly where it was, all I know is, it was a Tour place - you could pay to be flown around.

I still haven't found this, can someone give me a rough area to look? I've been flying choppers of course but never had a tour.

It's a filter used on distance stuff. It changes depending on the weather conditions. It's intentional. And amazing.

He shoots, he scores! I love the filters.

LJ didn't seem to stock armour when I called him even thought the weapon stores were selling.

In the other thread people have mentioned that actions have consequences this time (as opposed to not in previous titles). Can somebody elaborate on this, or is it just a case of being caught-up in the moment?

Do you dial "Guns" after you select his name? If not, you need to hang out with him a bit. Take him to a strip club or Cluckin Bell.

Anyone answering this please use spoiler tags. Some of us would prefer to find stuff on our own.

Heh, me too. In GTA though the bonnet cam is a nice novelty, but you miss too much other stuff going on.

Then again, I find it relatively easy to drive at speed using the chase cam, thanks to my ill-spent youth.

Staggering around drunk with your LJ is amazing.

We were absolutely fucked, falling over, bumping into people (and Euphoria makes it all very beliveable), blocking the road (''get outta the road!'') and LJ was saying ''I can't take de drink so well''.

Oh god yes, witnessed an amazing drunken fall by Roman last night - he stumbled over and fell into Niko, once they both came to balance, Roman was literally only staying upright by leaning his head onto Niko's back!! I wondered, will this work, if I move out of the way? I walked away, Roman splatted straight onto the pavement, it was like that lol bit in Only fools & horses where Delboy falls through the bar :( I then tried to walk over to the pissed up heap that was Roman, except Niko's legs knotted themselves and he ended up laying on top of him. Drunken idiots. :(

I then drove home, in a Sabre GT, crashed into a police car half way and had the most EPIC 3-star police chase while incredibly drunk.

These are gaming moments I will never, ever forget

Demographic Lunchtime Observation Anecdote:

On GT Prologue release, the GAME shop was rammed at lunchtime, with loads of working stiffs buying it.

On GTA4 release, the GAME shop was quiet at lunchtime, and packed in the early evening after the schools had finished for the day.

Proof of yuppy city types liking games where they can test drive the supercars they're working day in and out to save up for

Looks like the kids know the truth. Fun is key.

I'm chasing some loan shark who was beating up Roman in one of the really early missions...

he gets out of his car and then 'runs up the stairs'

I can't find him anywhere. Don't do this to me GTA IV. DON'T DO THIS TO ME.

Oh Scott :( I hope for your sake, its a bug.

No offence guys, but considering HOW DO I STP TAXI, HOW DO I BREK WINDO , GTAIV has the added bonus of filtering out people who can't read and have no sense of direction. :(
