GTA:IV Official Thread

So far it's been incredible. The missions, the locations, the design, the detail, the music, the cars, the dialogue, the characters it's all just so unbelievable!

I'm liking the new controls as well and the animations are mighty fine. This could easily overtaker Vice City as my favourite game of all time.

People are put off by the awesome, weird paint filter thing.

"It looks all blurry and weird in the background"

It's SUPPOSED TO. It's artistic. Some days the paint effect seems over used, other times its quite clear and you can see further... I love it anyway, easily the best looking game I've seen.

If you mean the 'haze' like effect when viewing distances I too think it looks brilliant. I think they whole look and style of the graphics/colours are spot on and look perfect.

Some people get caught up on graphics to easily, just glad I'm not one of those people

Considering the size of the game and the fact there are no loading times the graphics are absolutely staggering.

So, can you lose your wanted level by hiding?

I've not managed it yet - I hid inside the hospital for about 5 minutes and there were cops stalking up and down the corridors outside the room I was hiding in until one of them spotted me and shot me dead.

The only way I can remove my wnated status is by saving at the hideout, visiting a Pay & Spray, or getting outside the police perimeter on the HUD.

I like the melee so far. I started off button bashing as I had read the instructions at all. Once I did I then realised you could do a lot more than I expected. I kicked a guy through some windows into the water which was cool. Not quite got the hand of the counter move yet though.

Finally on the middle island after 9 and a half hours. Hopefully I'll get to go in a helicopter soon.

It was the first thing I accidentally stumbled upon after checking out all the new shops/etc! So go check out those map markers, hopefully you'll get lucky!!

I can't remember exactly where it was, all I know is, it was a Tour place - you could pay to be flown around. Didn't stop me yanking the pilot of his seat though

Precisely. I amazed it looks as good as it does to be honest. Lets not forget, the previous GTA games were hardly easy on the eye. But then, we didn't play them for that reason did we?

I'm all giddy about playing it tonight now, cue day dragging

That's pretty much it, yes. You can't lose them just by hiding in a building within the police radius.

By the way, did you hear on the news that the bridge had been opened? Cos I didn't, and was rather surprised when a character asked me to take him back to his apartment, and it turned out to be on the middle island!

No, but I had read news stories as TW@ that the mayor was buckling under pressure to reopen the bridge and that it would happen soon

When does another clothes shop get unlocked? The first one is rubbish.

I've only found on the second island. And even then it was just two of basically the exact same shop. (by this i mean different to the one on the first island, just there are two of them on the second island)

Can't find any new glasses!! And Michelle doesn't like my (now uber smart, suited and booted) dress sense :(

Yeah, I was looking forward to getting some smarter clothes (I like my GTA character to be quite dapper). Enjoyed the fact that he can only get clothes that make him look like a right scummer.

Can someone recommend me the best multiplayer game to begin on? I'm probably going to have to be playing with randoms.

There's 2 different clothes shops ont he second island "Mondo" which is smart casual and "Precious" (or something) which is all suits etc.

I've just gone for a smart casual look.

On the question about the parking spaces and the cars getting repaired - yes they do - the parking spaces act exactly like the garages in the old GTA's. Save on the bed in the hideout and the car is repaired/stored there for good.

I wouldn't call that artistic. It's a shit effect and they shouldn't of put it in. Puts me off big time

PS3?

Xbox

It's quite hazy and fuzzy on the 360 version too. I can't decide if it's a deliberate design decision or a technical limitation. Probably a bit of both.

Did anyone else have to play around with their colour settings? I had to whack brightness up a load and contrast up a bit - it was very dark and dull to start with.

Well I really enjoyed cops n robbers last night.

Does anyone think the graphics of the game look a bit 'fuzzy' ? Like very unsharp.

It's a filter used on distance stuff. It changes depending on the weather conditions. It's intentional. And amazing. If you disagree you are broken in the head.

()

Yep. My tv is perfectly calibrated to begin with but when I loaded up GTA it was very dark. Had to up brightness and contrast 2 notches. Also toyed a bit with the saturation to add more colour to the game.

I did put the contrast/brightness up a little so I could see a bit better in the night; but again the colour saturation and stuff changes with the time/weather. It's completely amazing and awesome for making each day feel very 'different' to the last.

Some days will be more saturated than others. It's deliberate, shame you think it looks shit though

I don't know if this is mostly the case, but a lot of times I've wanted to do the old 'shoot out tyres as cars go past' thing to cause massive pile-ups. What used to be best about this was that drivers would try desperately to drive away in a difficult to control car - chaos everywhere. Now it seems that if you hit one vehicle, everyone in the immediate area abandons their cars! The fact that some of them will then start a gunfight with you almost makes up for it, but not enough imho.
