Oh not sure if people are aware (I figured if the taxi stuff has passed people by then this may have as well) but if you want to do a bit of uninterupted exploring you can put your phone into sleep mode which stops you getting pestered by text messages

Very, very first impressions, just like the others but seems lacking in the individual character of Vice City and San Andreas.

The accents are grating slightly and not being able to invert left/right is a pain as well.

Hopefully things will improve when I get a decent amount of time to play it.

it'd be almost as good as Godfather

Bully/Godfather controls would put you in your element eh scottcr?

Smash car windows with waggle!

Which reminds me I shat one yesterday when the car alarm went off after Nico kicked it in drove all round waiting for it to go off and alerted about 6 police cars :s

I don't think I'd be able to contain myself if such a thing happened. The power of the big consoles is absoloutely needed to create a game with this kind of atmosphere and detail. Add some Godfather controls to this and it'd be the most amazing thing ever.

I don't know much, but I do know that cruising around listening to One Vision, and holding down the Cinematic Camera button as you slide around corners, is absolutely wonderful.

Question: I executed some guy last night. Not really sure who it was as I've been skipping all the cut-scenes and crap, but that doesn't mean I won't be able to open everything up, does it?

Surely the cut scenes (and story) are one of the highlights of this game - why would you want to skip them!!!!

The cut scenes are really worth watching this time. So much more grounded in reality than San An.

I watched a few at the start, and they do seem very well done. I have very limited game time at the moment though (about an hour a night, usually), and I'd much rather be getting on with things that watching cut-scenes.

I'm absolutely loving it as a sandbox, which is the reason I play games like this. I'm not fussed about the story side of things.

Well you should at least do the story stuff on the first island, considering the game's basically in tutorial mode until you get to the second island

I love the new police stars system. I got 4 stars after being a little shotgun happy on a crowded street so I was being chased by all manner of cars and a chopper. I hijacked a Sabre GT, and managed to weave through traffic and cause an almighty pile-up just at the exit off the freeway ... the police cars couldn't follow me, and I lost the chopper after heading down some backstreets and switching car. 50 achievement points were mine!

Not having the hassle of having to remember where the bribes are is great.

Aye, I got to the second island last night, finally got the FBI to show up - they fucking BATTERED ME

Well I'm playing on a 40 inch Samsung and it looks great to me

People are put off by the awesome, weird paint filter thing.

"It looks all blurry and weird in the background"

It's SUPPOSED TO. It's artistic. Some days the paint effect seems over used, other times its quite clear and you can see further... I love it anyway, easily the best looking game I've seen.

Speaking of which, I played through Bully on the 360 a couple of weeks ago (thinking I should do it before GTA IV makes it seem very old hat) and the scrapping in that it so much better than it is here. I was kind of expecting it to be similar since it worked so well and in the past they've incorporated bits that they've tried out in other series' into GTA if they've gone down well so it was a bit of a surprise that it's so sluggish in comparison. With them talking up the social aspects before it came out I thought they might have stuck some of that in too, I want Niko to be able to give flowers to tramps and kiss them.

Yeah I'm enjoying the missions and story but a big part of it is just opening everything up so I can cause a TW@load of chaos.
