Police are in free roam. Me and little joe spent an hour yesterday getting wanted levels and trying to survive as long as poss. You don't need to do anything special, just kill people.

Weird, we were killing people for ages and never saw a single cop.

Given the Hot Coffee outcry I'm quite surprised how explicit sex with hookers is. Paying full wack appears to get you a quick handjob, a blow job and a full ride.

Obviously, the money I paid was only a temporary 'loan'.

Once you get to the last island, you can buy an inverted v-neck jumper from one of the clothes shops.

The option for police in the lobby must have been set to off by someone.

Oh. I never saw a lobby for free roam, I just sent an invite to one of my friends and we jumped straight into the game.

I still haven't come across any hookers. Though I haven't really been looking for any.

Annoyingly it only lets you into a lobby and let you change options after your initial first game of something. Why it doesn't let you go right into a private lobby and invite people in there and give you control over options right away I don't know, but you have to play a default game of something.

Played it a little last night before the football kicked off and I have to say I was rather impressed.

I haven’t done anything remarkable, just pottered about a bit, did the first few missions for Roman and went on a date with Michelle to the bowling ally. Had a few police chase’s and got killed by some geezer with a knife for trying to steal his cool looking car. Also got shot in cold blood by the police for resisting arrest I think.

I think it looks great graphically and it well worth the hype we’ve had these last few months. Hopefully get stuck into it again tonight and get a lot further.

Its shame I won’t have the internet at home for another 3 weeks as I really am looking forward to the online multiplayer content.

Finally, how do I take a cab ride?

I saw some kids getting turned away last night...

... it's about time too.

I managed to get the last copy in Bristol's Zavvi, and next to me at the till was some kiddie having an almighty row with the staff because they wouldn't sell him the game. He was shouting at them that he was twenty, and he could have been as far as I could tell, but he had no ID. He got thrown out eventually.

I guess that shops are really mindful of this because it's so close to the Byron thing, but it would be nice to think that it marks the start of a more sensible approach to sales.

Regarding the game, I'm firmly in the 'same old same old with a lick of paint' camp. As with all GTAs previously, driving is great. I don't know what all the hoopla is about regarding the cams, but if you need the bonnet cam you're a noob! Anyone who has played a lot of GTA should find that this controls just the same - finesse that handbrake! If you haven't played a lot of GTA it just takes practice.

The gunplay is good - as good as San Andreas on the XBox. Which is just fine with me.

Fighting I actually think is worse - the new moves add nothing, except to slow it down.

Bowling, etc - shite. just the same as all other GTAs, if it's not part of the core gameplay it's dull.

Nice attention to detail overall, certainly, but the cutscenes are no better than SA, and the citizens aren't that much better.

Basically, if you love GTA you'll love this, but it won't convince many people who aren't already fans, and it's definitely not the great leap forward that a lot of people seem to think it is.

And just to add an extra twist to the broken window DRAMA, I completed that by trying to pick up a dustbin, and then in a mash of buttons ended up punching a pedestrian. Got into a fight with him, and to save time shot him in the face. At that point the guy came running out and I'd completed the mission, I guess through intimidating behaviour, as the window was intact!

I've got hold of both versions PS3 and XBox 360 (and I know it's the same game on both) but I've got to say, after playing for a few hours on both versions the graphics are VERY MUCH smoother/aliased on the Xbox and rougher/unaliased on the PS3, including even the loading graphics and titles etc. Infact it's instantly noticeable. Colour saturation is better on PS3 though. I've checked the settings on my PS3 and they are fine, (superstardust still looks absolutely stunning in 1080p). If it was marginal I wouldn't have brought it up and I was shocked as I'd purposely bought the Ps3 version for the better gfx and the 360 for LIVE.
I bought a copy on each format to see which was best, expecting better visuals on PS3 and 360 for multiplayer. The PS3 version looks very noticably worse to me, extremely jaggy, especially in the cutscenes. The lighting is better I suppose, but the overall image quality just looks much worse, at least to my eyes.

It's a pity as I'd rather play it on PS3, simply because the 360 is just way too loud.

Not if you are viewing them on a Sammy 1080p TV. I'm not usually fussed about this kind of stuff at all, but the aliasing difference is quite marked.

I've just switched over the HDMIs to check and stuck Niko in the same position in his apartment. Edges of everything eg stereo are jaggy onPS3. I'm not posting this up

to get on anyones back OR detract from a seriously great game but just to pass comment on my experience which is at odds with what i'd read on tinternet and what has influenced my purchase to get the PS3 spec ed. Anyway I'll STFU and get back to the game.

well i started playing this on a 1080p projector (which resistance/motostorm etc look great upscaled on). i was very disappointed with just how jaggy this looks on the ps3. it looks nearly last gen in places.

i think i'm going to trade it for 360 version (my 360 developed RROD on sunday), and wait to play the best version.

I wouldn't usually stoop to this level, but after the amount of shit we've endured from Chase I think it's more than acceptable. So where is he? He must feel a bit silly right now.

Had 2 hours last light and its the same old GTA. First thing I did was to punch out some nobody but this time he chased me for 2 streets and I had to jack a car to escape.

Put Talk Shite on the radio which still makes me laugh even when I am old enough to be Nico's granny. Cock n ball references in icecream in the bowling alley. It's because it's British basically - all a great big piss take.

I think it would be more interesting if failing missions for reasons other than your death had permanent consequences - e.g the target comes back with more heat, you lose a heist opportunity permanently and so forth.

The only thing so far I thought really clunky was the sort of introduction to the various dates you can have - unnecessary really - why not just go where you please?

I love the little British "humour" touches which, to be fair, have been in GTA since the start.

How many folks over the pond get the whole 'tw@' thing?

The bowling alley's sign cracked me up...

I didn't have a problem with this, it tells you on the map where to get the bricks

This game is so steeped in atmosphere, i feel i could rub my finger on the screen and get it covered in dust and dirt right off the streets of liberty city. Ive become quite attached to michelle i think thats what rockstar were after with this game the player becoming attached to the characters more than other gtas. Niko is without doubt the best gta character to date, hes done alot of shite and does alot of shit in liberty city but you still cant help feeling sorry for him and how he is a nice guy under it all.

Yeah, it's really unbelievable isn't it? You actually create relationships which bring a human touch to the whole crime gameplay... It's just one thing that I expect from trully next gen games, immersion... It's also amazing how some times it's up to the player how to play out Nico... You decide not to kill someone in order not to give him any more emotional baggage. Literary amazing scenes...

Also, is there a news radio station where you get to listen at what you have done or you the news break out in any radio station you are listening to?

I think thats pretty spot on, you can already see it from comments in the thread (Like Ramones above) the GTA world will either suck you in or not, its as simple as that. Its one of those rare games where the fun comes from making you own objectives and not being totally reliant on the pre-set mission. Hell ive been playing it since 8 and havent even been tempted to attempt a mission yet.

Played it a bit more this morning. I think I've ruined my chances with Michelle by phoning her too soon after the first date and then phoning her again early in the morning. Oops. :(

I did the exact same thing.

Rang her up, she said "We only went out recently!" or something like that. Then I called her accidentally at 2am not realising what time it was, she told me whilst yawning to call back after 6... which I did- and we went out again and shot some pool. :(

But on the 3rd date I fired my gun out of the car driving her home by accident, and the car stopped. On screen came a "You scared Michelle.", then she said "I've had enough of this bullshit, i'm finding another way home." and left me in my car alone. :(
