GTA:IV Official Thread

The city is the star of the game at the beginning before they start introducing the combat proper.

Its encouraging to hear people who are not enjoying the single player so much singing the multiplayer praises. Im enjoying single player so much I have little or no motivation to dip my toe into multi, so I guess when I eventually do it will really blow me away.

Anyone else have trouble getting online on PS3?

Soong mentioned earlier.

I've hit the singleplayer hard today, and it definitely gets better as it goes along. And there's so much still to come.

I don't want the later weapons or cars spoiled by multiplayer, so I'm staying away I think. Not that I can anyway, stupid router.

However, does anyone else feel like its areas aren't as unique or recognisable as previous GTAs? I can practically drive through GTA3 and Vice City in my head from memory, but this new one feels very samey. A bit too square. And the way you find your way around means that a much larger amount of time than you'd expect is spent looking at the gps, and not the lovely world.

Maybe it's just me, but whereas in GTA3 I'd drive to where I wanted to go without ever looking at the map due to its easily recognisable landmarks pretty much everywhere, in this one pressing start and setting a quick waypoint is becoming habit, and I'd be utterly lost otherwise, despite 6 or 7 hours in its world.

Yeah I'm sure in early previews they said you can take shots with your camera. And at the start the guy says you'll get a better one soon, so maybe you'll be able to take pics with the new phone.

You will get the new mobile when you unlock Algonquin and yes you can take pics, not as screenshots though. It does have a zoom though!

Even when the game explicitly tells you what to do and puts it on the radar? I don't believe it. People are playing up to it.

Maybe they are trying to break the wrong window or something, I don't know. I didn't even bother looking for a brick personally, just went up and punched the fucker.

I've been asked to join MP games on 360 but when I try to it says "cannot connect" ;) Nothing running on the PC, no bandwidth being used. ARses.

I think it's NAT issues. I'm guessing that if anyone in the game has a strict or moderate NAT, it stops them playing with strict NAT people. I have issues on CoD4 but only with the host.

I'm 28 hours in on the 360 version and you will get to the point when you can go from North Alderney all the way to South Bohan by the time you get that far in without even bothering with the ingame TomTom.

I've hosted games of Crackdown. Hmmm,

Bugger ;)

I'm exactly the same (try and avoid spoilers like the plague) but thats the beauty of multiplayer it so customisable. A few of us have just been playing games on the first island with "weak" weapons.. so it doent show you anything you havent already seen in Single player.. even just 3 player Races, GTA Races and Deathmatches have been an absolute blast!

This way we just keep drip feeding ourselves bits at a time as and when we unlock them in single player... last thing I wanted was to dive straight into a MP session where you can hop in a copter and see the best the game has to offer

My brother got me a copy from Argos this morning and the really annoying thing is that I can't play the game until Friday so I'm leaving this thread for now as I don't want to read any more spoilers.

OH FRIDAY, WILL YOU EVER COME?!

I've got hold of both versions PS3 and XBox 360 (and I know it's the same game on both) but I've got to say, after playing for a few hours on both versions the graphics are VERY MUCH smoother/aliased on the Xbox and rougher/unaliased on the PS3, including even the loading graphics and titles etc. Infact it's instantly noticeable. Colour saturation is better on PS3 though. I've checked the settings on my PS3 and they are fine, (superstardust still looks absolutely stunning in 1080p). If it was marginal I wouldn't have brought it up and I was shocked as I'd purposely bought the Ps3 version for the better gfx and the 360 for LIVE.

I've steered clear of multi-player aswell but U-1s comments encourage me and I might dip my toe in after another single player session now the football has finished.

Maybe see some people online around midnight...

Bugger! I bought the PS3 version cos I'd read the graphics were better. I bought it from Argos and they don't do returns.

It's just because it's new. I'm already starting to get a feel for the layout around the safehouse and beach, although anything in the North area of the first map I don't have a clue about. I struggled in San Andreas though, I can't tell you how many times I would circle the neighbourhood trying to find the road that led to the safehouse. You could always turn the GPS off if you feel like you spend too much time looking at it.

Watch this comparison. PS3 looks much better (obv!) - http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/18625

Well I've just checked the settings, started up S'Stardust again and it looks the dogs bollocks, smooth as silk. Stick GTA 4 and it's very aliased. The Playstation logo at the start is absolutely crisp yet the rockstar legals are a bit blocky , logo and game itself are markedly aliased. Dunno what to think.

Put in about 10 hours in 2 sessions. I think it's incredible. Took me a little while to get used to the car handling but now I love it. Gunplay is good with auto aim off. Story has me totally gripped. Just opened up the middle island so think it's a good place to leave it. Still got lots to do across the bridge as well!
