What's the Edge Hype article like?

Well it made me certain that I will hate it more than I did the first one. According to the article, you can enter a player's world via co-op and kill their family, and they stay dead! What a great feature - sounds like huge fun. I'm sure that sounded great in a presentation once, but honestly?

what feature? The ability to kill someone's family, you as the player can kill your family so why not someone else in your gameworld. If no one will use it as you say (although I doubt it, I think many people will try it to see if it will happen) then what's the harm of it being there? Also it's not a feature, there's no extra code for it, it's just a result of the available game mechanics.

If it could escalate, it could actually be great. Your 'pal' kills your family so you kill his in revenge. He then becomes unhinged and burns down your house and kills your little dog too - you then take it further and put his entire hometown to the sword, walking towards the camera moodily as the village is wreathed in flames and blood runs down the street...then some fuck off honkin' big dragon shows up and you've got to team-up again to stop it...then you stab the fucker in the back while they're both low on health and rejoice. Then have sex with his soon-to-be corpse and get pregnant. Or something.

Best. Game. Ever.

I'm mildly excited but wary of hype. Could be great, love the permanent consequences thing. I was initially excited about the first though, and I thought that was balls.

I thought the first wasn't a bad effort, but after all of the hype it didn't turn out to be the game I had hoped for. Still quite interested in how this is going to turn out - but I am taking every exciting feature with a pinch of salt until I can get my hands on it myself.

But there are a lot of people out there who only know each other via Live and would find it very amusing to see what would happen if they did something like that.

I've just decided I won't be playing co-op for this reason. Too risky, I'd be pissed off beyond belief.

Surely you can play it with one person you trust, like a friend or something...

It's supposedly the most powerful weapon in the game because the whole storyline is based around it and whoever owns it rules the worlds etc etc. But it's not!!!

Solus Greatsword - Damage 314

Sword of Aeons - Damage 230

Who gives a shit about damage?

Sword of Aeons >>>>>>> Solus Greatsword in pure naming coolness!

I admit it's been a while since I played Fable, but i definately remember the Sword Of aeons being significantly more powerful than any other weapon in the game, not just from a story point of view but actual damage wise too, and The weapon FAQ and Legendary Weapon FAQ on gamefaqs seem to back this up.

Anyway, you've made me determined to double check when I get home from work tonight lol.

Out of interest, are you playing the plain originial xbox version? Or lost chapters/Pc version etc?

Edit - From that Gamefaqs link in your post:

NOTE: This sword's strength has been dramatically reduced

in The Lost Chapters. If you spare your sister, you will get a copy of this

sword that is exactly the same, but looks different. (Avo's Tear)

Heh, problem solved. I played just the original Fable.

We're both right

Heh that wasn't in the original Fable I don't think.

In the original Fable the Sword of Aeons WAS the most powerful weapon in the game, completely overpowered in fact, but by that point you'd already completed it, so it just meant you were an absolute combat beast. Loved it.

Anyway, glad we got that sorted, I was getting very confused.

Oh dear. Come on man :)

I'm serious. It would piss me off immensely. You have this family that are a core part of the game and kind of grow with you, (and this is a feature I'm really interested in) and someone else can just waltz in & waste them because they're pissed when they're playing and think it's funny? Fuck that. Crazy decision.

In fact, I was thinking about this yesterday - the fact it's a natural part of the engine behaviour just goes to show that sometimes game design decisions need to be mandated by a human with common sense, not left to a rules engine.

People can't kill your family if you don't go back to your house while playing co-op. You can't separate and go different ways.

Aha, that's maybe ok then

As someone who never had an original xbox and as such never played the original fable I'm looking forward to this greatly, more my kinda sandbox game than running around modern day liberty city knee capping people (but I will still be playing GTA 4!).

I'm not too bothered about the whole family thing as I only ever intend on playing this with people I know aren't knobs. Anyone I've ever seen on my friends list purpousely TK someone in hardcore cod or whatever won't be getting an invite.

If anyone did kill my family the revenge would be swift and bloody.

I'm really liking the killing the family idea. I'd hate for my family to die but I'd love to murder Choddo's family to see what he'd do. He'd go mental! He'd come to my house...but I'd be waiting.

He'd probably ban you from Rllmuk.

Has online co-op actually been confirmed? All footage is from same-screen co-op, and Peter's been cagey whenever asked about online features.

Nope  My suspicion is, they've been trying to get it to work, and since they've never confirmed whether it was in or not, can easily say "oh there's no online, actually" if things dont work out.

Jesus christ! Is it impossible for you to see that some peoople think being able to do this is an awesome feature? And that other guy was like "a feature no one will use" - hyperultramega :(

Hanzo! Let's us go and tear a path through this game, leaving widows and orphans in our wake :(

We get to be EVIL. It's genius, not 'crazy' or 'pointless'. Choice is good, remember?

Split screen coop would be shit. Online would be good. And the game would have dual quests where one of you has to go to a village to get a map or key or something and the other one has to go to the swamp to get a newts eye. Except you don't go to the swamp. You say 'see you in a bit mate' and go to his village and kill his family and steal all the gold.

Presumably, other people can kill your family. Not just an online partner. It could be AI controlled. So you could deny everything and he'd never know. But weeks later, he'd come round your house and see a treasured family heirloom on the mantlepiece and find out it was you. And then you'd fight to the death.

These were the kind of features I always wanted in Animal Crossing.
