Fable 2

Fable was amazing. Possibly the best game on the original Xbox, only beaten by the Lost chapters and of course, Halo

Fable 2 will make me buy a X360

.::: Makes me wonder how many games of the same type you have played previously. It was competent, but far from amazing.

Didn't the team behind Fable spend several months implementing a system which allowed trees to grow in real time within the game world and then scrapped it all when they realised that it was taking about 40% of the Xbox's CPU time just to process it?

Maybe with the 360 we'll finally get to see this groundbreaking technology in action!

.::: Change the combat into something fun and fluid, instead of the stoic and stiff 'thing' we got in Fable. That is all. (Of course some actual change and consequence based upon your actions would be cool, instead of the pre-scripted stuff. Something as simple as GTa2's gang-system would be ace already.)

The controls were a bit fiddly but the fighting was great. I was an archer and taking peoples heads off with a bow through the trees was great.

I really thought Fable was a perfectly enjoyable hack 'n' slash action game. The combat was, to me, the whole reason for playing it - it felt amazing to go into slo-mo, and keep mashing the multihit and attack buttons until whatever hard bastard you were against hit the floor.

Obviously if you were after a sandbox where people reacted dynamically to your every action, then it was kind of a shitefest. I wasn't though, and I won't be when Fable 2 come out. More action please, Peter!

bizarre but true....

every copy of fable I have ever owned has skipped at the opneing animation of the bloke in the black armour with the sword before the big blue box logo comes up. And theres not a thing wrong with my xbox. However this only seems to affect the first play through of the animation video and never happens after that if its left running. Game runs fine and I have never ever had any other issue like this with any other game on my xbox.

its a crystal one btw

that put me off the game from the off.

I truly loved Fable. The atmosphere of the whole game just sat right with me.

As with all sandbox games it's the little things that can break the experience, when you get reminded that the game isn't quite as clever as you thought it was - so the sequel needs to be polished until it shines brightly.

Gawd, no. Polish is the last thing Fable needs. What Fable needs is to be done right. Polish can come later.

For some reason I never conected with Fable in a massive way. I played to completion but at no point did I feel involved or even care what might happen to me or anyone else. Sure it looked pretty but that just wasn't enough to involve me.

I'm not the only one then! Also a crystal Xbox. On occasion it won't skip, but I'll be unable to use the controller for an indeterminate amount of time (sometimes long enough for the opening FMV to play twice) which also happens with Spliter Cell: Chaos Theory, but nothing else.

I never played Fable, but it was on my "to do" list. Then the Lost Chapters came out (budget price, too!) and that went on my to do list. Then Oblivion came out, and I thought to myself "wouldn't Fable just be an inferior version of this?" and decided I didn't have enough free hours in my life to find out, so I ignored it.

Sounds like it's taking a while to build the disk cache when you first run it...

The best thing about Fable was Treguard.

The second best thing was spotting all the bits which they had obviously simplified from the original "master plan" for the game.

The third best thing was the fact it was pretty short, what with it being pretty "meh" overall.

In hindsight, it was like a kid's version of Oblivion.

Gah. Can anyone with Lost Chapters tell me if it works properly on their 360? I just bought it second hand and it always gets stuck and crashes when I close the first box (the one telling you to go up to villagers and press A). I've tried it about 5 times. Now admittedly the disc is scratched to fuck but I'm suspicious of all the stories I've heard about the 360s emulation. Although it probably is the disc, fucking Gamestation.

Also I thought you had to download something for every single Xbox game you wanted to play. When I played Ninja Gaiden Black it downloaded something but it hasn't for Fable which also makes me suspicious. Hmmm.

.::: To me they were very repetitive and boring. A bit like Dynasty Warriors. The special moves avaialble didn't hit the spot and missed oomph.

And now that I think about it: something to have some influence on ordering your magic. The 20+ symbols on-screen at once was just too cluttered. I ended up just using two or three spells as a result.

I played Lost Chapters on the PC, and I'm fairly sure that you could do this in it.

You could do it in the original, too, manually arrange them into groups of three. You could use one spell in several groups, and could leave spells out completely if you didn't need them. I had one group for prepping for combat, one for attack spells, and one for healing.

Edit- Generally the combat was about positioning and timing to me. Like Zelda.

.::: How do you do this? I never got any further than having about eight groups of three symbols each, driving me completely mad in the process. Although this in part is also due to the completely non-sensical menu. I'll take a completely filled up pause-screen over Fable's 'solution' anyday. Far too cluttered and cramped.

[edit] Maybe that's why I don't like it.

It's in one of those menus, somewhere.

.::: That's like prying your eyes out in order to find your glasses. :D Oh well, might get round to it... Still have some silly Panzer Elite Action to finish up first.

I do hope Fable 2 gets a more decent story btw. But to be honest, my eyes are more fixated on Overlord.
