Super Mario Galaxy on the way for Wii

Good news gang! Mario Galaxy will have (at least partially) orchestrated music!

Here is the main theme that we've heard in trailers and stuff but now played by an actual orchestra, and here's footage of them actually recording another track.

Great news, it's glad to see Nintendo are finally moving on from midi. Seems like it's pretty likely that Smash Bros will be orchestrated too now.

Played it today and oh my word it's good

It just has that air of quality that Mario 64 does and it looks the business too

I want to post something about the music but I won't because it'll be a spoiler

edit: I was a bee!

Well I'm just slightly jealous, you've played it. Only a smidge mind.

This is the worst news in this thread. Nintendos interactive chip generated music is one of the things that helps set them aside from everyone else.

The music is glorious

Spoiler:

It has some music from Zelda in it, when I was near a waterfall it started playing (Epona's theme I think)

It only proves they're cheap cunts. 'Real music' has been the way forward for 10 years now, and I'm glad Nintendo finally joins in.

Have to disagree with you there. Chip music can be changed, remixed and altered all on the fly, making for a more interactive aural experience. Like the way the music changes subtly in Wind Waker when you're sailing with the sail up or down or as the weather changes for example.

Couldn't they just use the layered approach that Halo uses, with certain tracks being cued in during certain circumstances? So it could be a mix of orchestrated samples and synthesised tunes, with layers being added and removed when you're low on health or entering new areas, etcetera. (Disclaimer: I don't really know how these things work.)
