Just give me the games!

I find myself disliking these new "hip" consoles more and more as time passes. At first, I had a hope that maybe Microsoft's next outing in the console market wouldn't be as big of a disastear as I intially thought, but everything that could go wrong IS going wrong. I'm almost certain the same will go for Sony's next console as they seem to be appealing to the same demographic as Microsoft and are touting similar features in their consoles. (The standard mindbending visuals, unpresidentented A.I. and completely new game experiences - only on your next gen consoles!) Its pretty clear that Microsoft and Sony want to have their media hub in your living room, but how about the gamers who just want games? Sure, downloadable content, game demos and virtual systems are great additions, but they all share one thing. They're improvements based around GAMES. Everything else that has supposdly improved - be it the streaming of music or video, browsing of photos or downloading of new movie trailers, has had nothing to do with games. I want a system that has games on it for me - a gamer who just misses games for what they were originally meant to be. Just games.

Over the time I had my original Xbox, I never once decided to use Live at all.

But I have to say that the 360 is a different matter. I like the idea that I'm always connected, directly out of the box. It's nice to be able to download new demos and games whenever I want. It's certainly not a substitute for a cracking game on the machine, but it's a damn fine extra...

And if it speeds up the death of those appalling 'official' magazine demo disks then that's a bonus.

Just what is the point of the official xbox360 magazine now?

I think there's plenty of that on the 360 or any other system out there. Without going into lists, I've been enjoying some of the finest gaming experiences in the last few months, on both my Xbox 360 and PS2. I also don't see much of the 360 disaster you're referring too. Xbox 360 Live worked a charm from day one, there's plenty of simple gaming goodness on Xbox Live Arcade and almost every week a new at least semi-worthy new game is added to the library which already has some great titles.

Personally I think it's a great time to be a gamer, and now with the PSP catching more momentum, a deluge of quality DS titles and the PS3 and the Revolution on the horizon it will only get better.

The Nintendo Revolution, is the only console you'll need. Along with a DS Lite.
