Silvercreen goes into receivership

The staff in my local Silverscreen are actually pretty creepy which is probably another reason why I don't go in there often. Last time I bought something, the checkout lass seemed all loved up like she was on some sort of religious high. It was bizarre and you had to be there really, but she was throwing off some really strange vibes that sent a shiver down my spine. Most odd.

I went into meadowhall branch today where they claimed to have up to 50% off everything, and they fucking lied!!!

No they didn't (unless, of course, they were selling something for 51% off or more)

The local TKMax here has a big (permanent) sign outside saying 'Up to 60% off'. I've never been in there, but I'm pretty sure they don't sell everything 60% off. It's just a meaningless statement that sounds good.

My local Silverscreen is impossible to navigate. Everything seems randomly dotted all over the store, the staff didn't have a clue where anything was and the best they could do to help me find the new Reeves & Mortimer DVD's was to send me to HMV down the road.

"Comedy is over here... We've also got some over there... Or you could try the film section just in case we put it there... Or HMV might have it..."

Actually, just been looking at Pipex's coverage if the story:

In addition to Silverscreen, music and movie retailer MVC was placed into administration before Christmas after sales were hit by competition from supermarkets, pirated CDs and DVDs, and downloads from the internet.

Jesus Christ. Yes it was pirates. I'm sure it had nothing to do with them putting their prices up a couple of years back making them look even less favourable in comparison to Play and Amazon. Idiots.

The Norwich one has numerous '10% of anything not seperately marked as reduced' signs dotted around the place, although everything I was vaguely interested in still cost more than the HMV opposite.

I never liked Silverscreen and it's not really a surprise they're closing when they're so expensive compared to their highstreet counterparts. The one in Dundee is about three doors down from Fopp which couldn't have helped.

Still, I managed to get 2001 in the Glasgow branch for £2.99 a couple of weeks ago.

There's no money in DVD retail when online DVD rental is so convenient.... it's not that surprising they're finished.
