Oblivion Dark Brotherhood Thread

I'm having a bit of a problem with this right now, I'm on the "fake a death" mission, I've got the guy out of the undercroft, but he doesn't follow me to the Gray Mare. He doesn't follow me anywhere, he just stands there saying "I neeed to go to the Gray Mare". It's really annoying me, the only way I got him to move was when i kept punching him in the face... he ran around for a bit then a guard showed up, I got arrested and when I got out he wouldn't move again. Any suggestions?

Dunno mate, after I give him the antidote and he let slip about the upcoming family issues, Auntie Margeret turned up looking a bit worse for wear and he just went for her. After that he was happy to follow me. It might be because there are other family members alive near him but my experience of that mission he wet for them as well.

That mission took me ages, because one guard changed positions in five minute intervals, and was covering an area I needed to get through most of the time.

The murder in the prison?

I just ran in. The guards saw me, I just didn't kill any of them. I'm well hard me.

any tips for getting in?

I know you have to murder an innocent or something like that, but they always seem to get away from me :(

I didn't kill anyone really - only the Arena champ after I did his quest, he had lost the will to live so didn't fight back in the Arena and on the screen it said "this was witnessed by blah blah blah" or something along those lines.

I got there through manslaughter rather than murder - tried to defend the cabbage patch from attack in one of the early quests but must have swiped one of the farmers in the confusion.

Before that I was trying to kill NPCs to get access to their houses and found they escaped every time. If your stealth skill is OK the best bet might be to sneak up to someone sleeping to get the *6 bonus and kill them before they wake up.

Looks as if the the Arena conclusion brings in most members (providing you have done the grey prince quest first).

I've to do the Finger quest when I get in tonight, can't wait ;)

That quest broke for me. (Don't read spoiler until you've done it.)

I tried attacking him when he was in his armour, just to see, but he was he was tough and I got arrested. Coming out of the prison I saw him standing around and he talked to me like nothing had happened. But I couldn't "wait" because it said enemies were nearby. So I wandered round the corner, waited there and came back round to find him swimming in the pond. "A-ha!" I thought and shot him with the special arrow. It hit him, his armor magically reappeared and he started running/swimming at me. So I twatted him a bit, got arrested, paid the fine, healed up, went back and hit him a bit more, got arrested, paid the fine, healed up... repeat until he was dead. Which is kind of cheating, really, but as the arrow didn't work I didn't mind too much. Finger part worked okay, though.

Completed that one the other night... needless to say it involved making an ingenious escape with a rather large bounty on my head :)

Youre in for a treat with the next few missions.

Anyone else a bit disappointed with the fees you collect as head of the DB after completing the story arc? Seems a bit backwards (and hardly worth the effort) to only be collecting 200 Gold a time when the footmen doing the dirty work are getting 500: I was expecting it to be a mafia style pay pyramid, with my payments having an extra zero on the end.

There's a quest towards the end of the story arc that was VERY unsettling....

I think I know the one as I actually felt sick doing one quest. That quest was unsettling, sad and very fucking awesome.

.::: Indeed it was, I was also getting reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally paranoia at that time and I kinda shrieked when entering that room.

Also during the talk with 'her'...

What did you say? I remained silent [....] and she commended me for being such a good follower.

To be honest the bit afterwards back in the Sanctuary talking to 'teh n00bs' had me in stitches and was way cooler. Awesome feeling despite the actual awarded title not amounting to much.

And if Bethesda ever wants to make a Dark Bortherhood only game, I'll be first in line to buy it!

Which one was that?

I've always wondered what happens if you slay the 'mother' rather than the assassin. Is it even possible?

If there's anyone yet to get to this stage, can you save the game beforehand and try and kill the mother for me, just so that I know what happens? cheers ;)

Finished the Dark Brotherhood quests yesterday, pretty sad that it's over. ;)

The party mission at the mansion was the highlight for me, I'll doubtless go back and do it again some time to try out some new methods of killing all the guests.

Now I'm a badass Dark Brotherhood kingpin I'll now try out the Mages Guild to further enhance my destructive powers. :)

I was at Apple Watch today (the farm of the mother who you killed along with all her children) there are now tombstones outside of the house bearing the names of the family members I killed. Read one of the tombstones for a suprise.

Just did the

party in the house

quest. It's absolutely excellent: Open, requires ingenuity, subtle, you feel really evil, and I got really involved. Plus, bodies go flying when you hit them with warhammers!

I was kinda disappointed by this one -- at least on my first run through. I can see the potential, and everything, but

I got in there, chatted to everyone and got them to like me, then headed upstairs, to case out potential murderation by death sites. As I'm inspecting a random locked chest (for signs of termites, naturally), someone comes in and turns his back to me. No time like the present, methinks, so I stab him gently in the back of the skull. Cue a scream, as someone else has wandered in. Well, she's dead before she spins round, but it turns out that there was someone behind her, too. Unpleasantness ensues, but somehow none of this sets off the "no witnesses" alarm. That leaves two more targets; one upstairs, one downstairs. It seems churlish to sneak up on them, so a quick dagger to the face each, and the mission is done.

It all seems a bit anti-climactic after that. Next time, must try poisoned elephants.

Yep, I thought that was one quest which didn't live up to the hype.

I'm getting towards the end of the DB quests now (I think) and I feel they've gotten a bit less interesting. I loved the early ones, but now it's a bit average all of a sudden. I just hope it's a lull before a fitting finale, as overall I think these quests have been the best bits in the game.

I think its all to do with how you treat them. I realised I could do it stabbily stabbily, but I decided not to, instead taking it slow. When I

First got in the house, I went around casing the joint and talking to everyone, finding out their relationships with each other. Eventually, I noticed that one of them was flirting with another one. I talked to her and persuaded her so she liked me. I got her to confess that she fancied this guy, an ex-imperial legion soldier. I told her, "Hey- he told me he liked you to! Why not go up to his room and wait for him to come and see you?" She agreed, and went upstairs. Of course, I followed and picked her off nice and quiet-like. I realised the imperial legion guy might be tough to take out whilst he had his armour on, so I waited until he went upstairs for a power nap. I found him sleeping in his bed, so I finished him off with a quick hammer to the face whilst he was undefended. Just three to go, now.

Another one was taken out when I convinced her I had found the treasure and wanted to share it with her, letting me drag her off to a secluded spot in the house. Now the last bit was excellent: I went to speak to one of the only 2 remaining people. He said, "There's just me, you and Ned left alive now. I know it's Ned that's the murderer- I've distrusted him right from the start. Let's go get him!" And he ran off, drawing his sword. One quick stab in the back later, and one of my victims had done part of my dirty work for me! Finally, he turned around to face me.

"Thank god that nightmare's over." He said. "Now we can get out of here." I just smiled and pulled out my axe...

Not the quickest way to do it by all means, but by far more satisfying than running in flailing.

EDIT: Wtf? Spoiler tags not working? Done it in white instead.

Hmm, sounds like you're right. On reflection, my approach was rather... um, primitive. I kind of just stabbed tham all when nobody else was around.

I just sneaked around and killed them all. No puzzle to it at all. Maybe I was lucky but it didn't seem to require any thought at all. Took about a minute.

I'm a bit stumped on the Lonely Wanderer quest for the Dark Brotherhood.

I've got to kill a high elf in the Imperial City when no-one else is around. Fair enough, but I'm having a hard time getting to him. He always seems to be in the Market District as indicated by a green pointer when I enter that area, but then he quickly disappears before I've a chance to move. By the time I've got to his location (mere seconds later) he's nowhere in sight.

What you need to do is

visit his girlfriend at the inn (the name escapes me, but one of the thieves in the waterfront will tell you which one it is), persuade her, and she'll tell you all about his addictions, and where he hangs out. Then (without giving all the fun away) you'll have a better handle on where he is. I really had fun with this mission, even though it is pretty easy

Thanks, I figured it out in the end anyway. In my haste to be on with the killin' I didn't ask my buddies in the DB for any tips on the contract. So I nipped back to base, asked them and everything became much clearer.

That's brilliant! And also incredibly disappointing.

As none of that worked for me at all. I maxed out their dispositions and talked to them endlessly but couldn't get any of the bastards to follow me or do anything. No options were coming up to allow me to do so. In the end, I just waited until one by one, they each went upstairs to a bed. I killed the first three secretly this way. Killed the fourth one while he was sat eating, nipped downstairs, came back up and knifed the other one in the back whilst they were looking at the dead body. Nowhwere near as good as yours though.
