I had a very brief look this morning at it and I suspect that all these frame rate "issues" are actually to do with the camera shake and the way its been implemented. If you do it in certain ways it can feel like a frame rate drop.

I'll have a proper bash this evening and shall then pass judgement.

As someone mentioned earlier on in the thread, the FPS problems feel like that in NFS:MW. I've not had chance to give a proper go but the best way I can describe it is, everything in the foreground judders, rather than the whole screen. Very strange. This is over component by the way.

For what its worth, my experience today off line has been no crashes or frame rate problems (using component).

I think Oblivion has spoiled us for lush green scenery - this looks a bit samey and thin with speed blurring around the edges of the screen. I'll try and get some time in on live soon to compare.

Are there dynamic weather effects or real time day / night changes planned?

Does Afterbirth have a 360? We need the opinion of a fellow World Racing fan!

Not yet...i'm still holding out, and having played WR2 this didn't really turn me - i've seen the FMV footage and it does look nice but i'm still not convinced that setting it all on one island is the right way to go (WR2 has about 6 locale with race tracks too and you rarely raced over the same part twice).

The handling also looked slightly dodge but i've not seen or played recent stuff.

Its just as good and features some superb races - again they're huge, but well worth it.

I'm playing the PC version as i've sold my Xbox, but the PS2 version i grabbed some while ago was very poor - the graphics don't do the game justice.

Its pretty much more of the same but theres some extremely hard time trials (which are seconds tight) - these can be somewhat confusing at first as the tracks are not that well marked - but you want to beat them to play the next tracks.

The only thing is it gets hyper fast as you buy the supercars - to the point of being silly - on one of the hi-speed tracks you end up driving along a crash wall if you keep the gas hard down.

But otherwise, its bloody good. With the default AI the game puts up a seriously hard race and the track selection is, again, superb, esp. the off road races which make every available use of a track.

I am a massive fan of World Racing 2 - but I think it's worth pointing out that you don't just want to beat the very hard time trials - you need to beat them. And some became so hard that I gave up on the game. Your progress is too linear compared to World Racing 1.

I didnt spend very long on it so this may change, I thought the handling was complete crap, there was little excitement round the corners and the whole model just felt..... basic.

And no matter how good any other part of it is, a driving game with poor handling cannot be rescued.

I really want this to be good :(

I'm of the same opinion as you, entirely.

I'll try turning the steering sensitivity up, but I'm not hopeful. The cars don't break grip progressively, and you only have to return the steering to centre, rather than dial in opposite lock to correct a slide, even under full throttle. ;)

Ive had 2 crashes in my first go.

First one i was doing 145 in the exige and i lost it on a bend, just when i thought i was incontrol bash ;)

2nd was running from the police and i hit a tree.

So far neither impressed or dissapointed - seems good fun, engine sounds are great and gfx serviceable.

  • 3 months later...

So, despite the dubious pricing and the 'fun but flawed' demo I'm still looking forward to this, but it's all gone a bit quiet hasn't it? Isn't it due out in a few weeks?

One of the 360 mags has a review, and from the cover it makes it sound good, so who knows.

Early word says that the game is full of great ideas and fantastic stuff to do. It's just a phenomenal concept that the developers have excecuted brilliantly.

But.

The handling model is so duff, it ruins everything that's good. Cars steer from the centre rather than the wheels in an unsatisfying manner.

That was kinda my impression of the demo, so I can well believe it. A shame, because man alive, the game looks like it's rammed with fun. I'd hoped they would fix the duff handling from the demo, but it looks like it's made it all the way to the final game.

.::: I've played another build two weeks back, and it was pretty much the same still. It's rather odd, but the game is sooo... in a coma... I don't know how to say it otherwise. Hawaii should be brimming with life, at least that's what I hope. But this really is World Racing without the oooh-aaaah moments and with a workable GUI.

I did manage to get some drifts out of it, but it's not exactly satisfying.

I didn't try this, but isn't there something you can do in the demo settings menu to tweak the handling and instantly make it more enjoyable?

.::: Reminds me: you could use the d-pad to electronically (natch) lower and raise the windows.

So that's good for eh... realism freaks, I guess...

I kinda feared this....this is a game thats potentially going to make me cancel my Ps3 pre-order.

The series never was astounding...its handing model was okay but couldn't really compete with NFS at the time...still its been eons since its last outing and I did say that Hawaii seemed a bit....well....dull...

It doesn't feature any of the life of something like a city....therefore should only be part of a series of tracks rather then the whole basis.

I'm sure in real life its lovely, but then so is lying on a beach and you don't do that in a videogame. usually.
