Also anyone that's watched a race since the ban on refuelling would know it's standard practice to under-fuel the cars meaning the driver will have to save fuel at some point and various events though the race such as having to push hard can affect that.

Although I think it's clear McLaren expected it to be wetter than it was (a situation in which you would lose less fuel) and did at least slightly drop the ball there.

I also think the constant changing in fuel mapping would have had a baring on this. The mapping must have been significantly changed for practically every session as the FIA fucked about.

I think it's still up in the air a bit, but from what I understand they're just going to set it back to how it was in Valencia.

What is it with the FIA under Todt though? Throughout the year they've made themselves look really silly by basically announcing rule changes in the middle of a season and then realising that they should have at least spoken with the teams first to see if it was managable. When you have a situation like we did at Silverstone with endless meetings, arguments and come-downs from the sport's governing body it just makes things look amateurish.

I don't really like anything that favours such tactics over pedal to the metal racing. If I was in charge teams would get unlimited option tyres for qualifying and be made to carry a set level of fuel, enough to get them round every lap at top speed.

I still think it'd be cool to allow each driver three sets of all compounds each weekend (super soft, soft, medium, hard) and just let them do whatever the heck they want in the race. You'd get a really interesting mixture in strategies then - some guys like Sauber might try and make it all the way on one set of hards, people like Mercedes might try to go for two stops with the super softs... could be great fun!

Disagree on the tyre thing, there's always going to be an optimum tyre in terms of lap time vs wear and there'd be no point using the others.

The problem would be getting enough track time to find out which was best. Otherwise it's just lucky guesswork.

Stick with what we've got, it's working brilliantly!

I managed to get this:

On a whacking great 60" x 40" the other day. Being delivered to my flat tomorrow - got a large patch of white wall that it'll fill rather nicely :).

EDIT: Apologies about the 'Close Up' thing there - image taken from seller's site.
