Button in a Ferrari would be the worst thing for him. Ferrari just don't do two front runner drivers. Massa plays backup and tactical player to help out Alonso where he can. Button would fill that role, which would effectively end his championship career.

When I heard Brundle say over the weekend that Ferrari have pit team orders that effectively prevent Massa from pitting till Alonso makes his decision, reminded me why I've never liked Ferrari. I won't forget 'Alonso is faster than you' and I certainly won't forget Barrachello pulling over for Schumacher.

Redbull and McLaren are much better choices to look at. If Webber had more luck and a bit more skill, we might be seeing some exciting racing as he could battle away with Vettel at the front. We're already seeing the McLaren guys go toe-to-toe as they compete with each other and that's great. We rarely see anything like that from Ferrari, passing between them always seems pre-decided and in favour of Alonso.

Good point, I wouldn't be so anti red bull or Vettel if he was scrapping with webber & the victories were split between them like last season. I think as a fan I can handle a team dominating, but not a driver & a team dominating.

Every team has some sort of hierarchy and team orders. Ferrari usually have one lead driver, Red Bull favour Vettel and McLaren have gone for whoever has the best chance of winning when they have 2 good drivers. Lets not forget Coulthard and Kovalainen both played bitch to the golden boys. Only place Button would be team leader in a winning team is if Lewis left McLaren and he stayed.Nobody is going to go into Red Bull and get equal treatment with Vettel off the back of the last 2 years and Alonso is untouchable at Ferrari.

Button and Lewis had a battle last year after the RBs took each other out, but as soon as that started to get good Whitmarsh stepped in and they both went on "fuel saving". :sherlock:

I still don't understand why Fernandoisfasterthanyougate still annoys people, any rational team would have made the same decision.

I think he's the quickest, but I have a feeling Alonso (and arguably now Vettel) have a slight edge in racecraft. I know SV is prone to the odd error, but the way he commanded from the front in Valencia was really very impressive.

As for JB going to Ferrari, I can see it happening mainly as Jenson's at the stage of his career where he's won the championship, has won numerous races and already proved himself. The lure of Ferrari is a pretty big one, especially for someone who doesn't need to prove anything and instead can just join for the sake of saying they've driven for them.

That's just standard practice for nearly all teams though, the lead driver gets to decide his strategy and pit first.

I have my doubts that Mercedes have the strength in depth to be a long-term proposition - I have a suspiscion that Ross Brawn may retire when Schumacher goes.

When Shumacher moved from benneton to Ferrari, he took Brawn and Byrne with him, and the Schumacher-dominant era was built not just by Schuey, but that trio. I think to do a similar thing at brackley would require an injection, from somewhere, of superstar technical talent as well. Hamilton's a great driver, but I don't get the sense of being a real mature team leader in the way that Schumacher was when he left Benetton. if he wanetd to play the waiting game, then he'd be best sticking with Mclaren.

If he really fancied doing the "bringing up a team" thing, then maybe Renault-Lotus would be a better prospect. plus his Idol senna did drive the black-and-gold cars for a year.

I do wonder about Renault and the money available for the team now Renault have left, they used to be one of the best in season developers but that doesn't seem to be the case lately. I wonder if that will change now with the Lotus backing if they'll give them the money they need, would be great if they do as the Enstone team have shown with it they can produce great results.

Problem with this (Group) Lotus sponsorship is that, from what I gather, the money Lotus are putting in is a bit of a 'speculate to accumulate' deal, whereby they hope that the added exposure will push sales of their new range of cars. If it doesn't then there's a pretty big chance that the other Lotus will be picking them up in a bargain bin in a few years' time...

indeed, Lotus has a lot of fingers in a lot of pies at the moment and I don't see them being a long term or high roller F1 Sponsor for too long. The good result they got at Le Mans may well tip their hand towards more investment in the LMP2 car they're talking about. Especially if Fernandez continues to use the Lotus name and gets better press.

Senna isn't good enough, or he would have got the seat this year.

He'll get a crack at Brazil for the marketing men to have a slice of some Brazilian Dollar.

In other news, is it just me or does Hamilton just need to quietly shut the fuck up?

Frustration at how Vettel is running away with it, which makes me wonder will he call it a day with Mclaren & jump ship to Red Bull? Not sure if RB will extend Webber's contract, compared to last year he can't compete with Vettel.

If he's not causing strife in the team and is bringing in a decent amount of points they'd be daft to change the team structure. Vettel to take the championship and Mark to hoover up some decent points to help them to the constructors too.

If Mark doesn't make any major fuckups along the rest of the season I reckon they'll renew him for another year. They have the best car, an awesome driver and a ok driver who doesn't cause many problems (so far). Why change that and throw a potentially volatile Hamilton into the mix.

I'd love to see if happen just to see them both fight each other on overtakes. I reckon it would tear the team apart though eventually.

is anyone going to the Goodwood Festival of speed at the weekend?

I had tickets for the 'moving motorshow' today actually but due to work being a bastard at the moment I had to give them to a friend, gutted.

Yes finally. It's always been something my Dad and I have wanted to go to and finally we are, have tickets for tomorrow, guess that means the classic show at Essen or Retromobile in Paris are next on the list

I've been quite a few times over the years and its one of the best value motor sport events I know. Loads of great car. Access to the drivers and the chance to see some real rare and special cars running up the hill in anger.

The down side is the f1 car gives Joe public a hard in so they get to ponce around giving it all the big I am. You can't get anywhere near an f1 car yet 10 feet away will be multiple le man winner or historic pre war merc what does Joe public crowd round. The f1 of course. Still I suppose it let's me see the really good cars without the hassle of idiots in the way.

Anyway. Have fun and try to walk to the top of the hill. It's worth it.
