We saw what for me is the best and worst of DRS today; I love that it allowed Button to charge from 21st to victory in 30 laps instead getting stuck in 16th behind a midfield car, but it doesn't seem quite right when the bloke in second is a sitting duck for both the cars behind him.

Yeah I thought that too.

Oh and thanks for the KERS and DRS explanations.

The trick is though that if the cars and drivers are perfectly matched, they'll DRS each other every other lap. The skill is in DRSing someone without making a mistake and then getting more than a second in front so they can't come back at you.

Isn't that how basketball works?

Or tennis, where breaking serve = passing and gaining >1 sec

DRS should put the overtaker in the position to beat the other car on the brakes. Not drive clean around him. It needs to give the driver an opportunity to pass without doing 100% of the work for him.

It'll be almost impossible to get balanced to that degree though. I think Pirelli's give us enough overtaking without DRS so get rid.

he pulls a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to hospital, you send one of his to the morgue!

That's the Chicago way!

I think they got pretty close to achieving that balance today though. It seemed to me that Webber driving clean around Schumacher was the exception rather than the rule. Usually it was difficult enough to get alongside the car in front, let alone ahead.

I'm knackered but after too much safety car use, and a dull wait during the flag, that became a stunning race with a nail biting fight for the flag. It was a shame Kobi did not make the podium but very happy for Button and once again, Webber makes it up through the grid.

Best race of the season, great commentary and a delightful way to make me late for work tommrow!

The stewards on Hamilton stopping after retirement (PDF):

The Stewards have investigated the actions of the driver of Car 3 (L. Hamilton) after his collision with Car 4 (J. Button) in the particular matter of where he stopped his car.

Having heard from the driver and the team representative, the Stewards have concluded that the driver was convinced he only had a flat tyre. This was subsequently confirmed by the team representative to be correct.

The driver therefore believed he could safely return to the pits and proceeded to attempt to do so.

However, at the time, the team believed the car had sustained suspension damage and radioed him to stop immediately. The driver reacted accordingly and stopped within 6 seconds at a marked vehicle recovery point.

The Stewards therefore decide to take no action on this matter.

Whoops!

The Stewards' decision of the Hamilton/Button incident (PDF) is also interesting, putting the blame on neither driver.

The lap map of this GP is ridiculous:

Edit: Also, massive credit to Coulthard for immediately noticing Vettel had gone wide on the final lap before the mistake was obvious. The current commentary team is brilliant.

Great race. And very considerate for the re-start to take place after james may's toy stories had finished. I'm looking forward to bobs write up though I suspect he'll be waffling on about some age old race that 90% of the race world only catch the first and last five minutes of.... ;)

Alguersuari's line is pretty impressive too.

He had the benefit of starting the race from the pit lane. This meant that his car came out of Parc Ferme and so his team were able to optimise it for the conditions. All the other cars were set up for qualifying in the dry (well, except maybe the McLarens to some degree).
