That just doesn't really look like much of a car any more - looks like the car burnt to pieces but sounds like the driver got out himself. I was convinced no-one was getting out of that at all. Hopefully he's not badly hurt

That's two horrendous smashes for Audi :(

So the two big crashes at LeMans today could be related to the floor design and the "shark fin"?

No, both just bad luck with passing slower cars, the Rockenfeller crash

and what was left of the car.

Well, yeah the incidents started due to overtaking slower cars, but I was under the impression the severity was down to how the car has behaved once the accident started, i.e. due to its floor and fin removing from control from the driver.

Either way, the Audi team looked very concerned in their garage.

Having seen both live and repeatedly I don't think I'd say so, although we have very little useful footage of Rocky's crash.

I've seen both live and on replays :) that just seemed to be the impression the commentators had.

Anyway, its great seeing so many ex-F1 drivers involved in this, all too often people assume when they leave F1, for whatever reason, a drivers career is over. Great seeing the likes of Davidson, Gene, Wurz (all in one team  ), Magnusson, McNeish, Bourdais, Lamy, Panis (whos looking rather chunky nowdays) among others again.

They said on the commentary earlier that Audi said the fin had done what it should have done in McNish's crash, looking at Rocky's I'd have thought it was at such high speed in a confined space nothing was going to alter the outcome.

I think McNish's crash looked like the car was trying to take off (as the LMPs tend to do). The new fin is intended to prevent the flying if the car gets sideways and it looks like that might have kept it from lifting into the air. But the car does skim across the top of the gravel, never really making any contact with it so he just hit the barriers at full speed. Mostly I just cannot believe his car stayed on the track side of the barriers, the physics just seem weird. Some very very lucky photographers.

Ha ha ha, I was >that< close to sending cherries flying across the room when I'd noticed the sudden silence and Martin returned! His relief and sense of achievement was palpable! That and the earlier seemingly never-ending tiff over who was in the right between the faster or slower cars have been definite highlights. :D

Er, more on track, the times have been incredible for the last hour and a half or so - and just ahead of popping here to type this post, I noticed that Ant had taken it down into the 3:27s around the time he was moving to second place. His driving was already incredible to watch - then, as above, he went faster! As far as I can see on the timing screen, he's got the fastest lap (by a hefty-this-year 0.7s) and is fair dropping Fassler - not that he's dawdling either!

I'm stuck in small town America at the mo with no speed tv. Does anyone know the best way to watch or of a solid justin.tv feed of the F1 tomorrow? I used justin.tv general search for qualifying and it wasn't that succesful. The eurosport le mans feed posted a few pages back is fantastic though and something like that would be much appreciated.

Try the speed tv website. I think they stream the race on there.

I feel you though having spent three months in the US this year.

If not speed tv, I'd say some hastie web/Justin tv searching around the time of race. I've found most of my races that way. There are a number of websites that stream sports, though I've found that they have to switch around as each is closed down.

What happened with the Wurz car, last I checked yesterday Davidson was in the lead and now he's 3 laps down? Was really hoping for a Davidson win as well, but likely not happening now.
