The Formula 1 Thread

Back to Formula 1 in the Formula 1 Thread - just saw this on iplayer and a few points to note:

Jenson's turning Japanese? He's had the British flag on his helmet since the beginning (even in Brawn luminous yellow colours), but now he's changing it?

Throughout the race I noticed the marshals taking the piss with the blue flags - traditionally midfield cars (Kobayashi, Sutil) were being blue flagged with the leading team cars behind, despite them having track position... WTF? Must have confused the drivers.

Poor Maldonaldo, his personal best (great for him and Williams) completely wrecked by being cunted off by a very cunty Lewis Hamilton. It's almost like he's going through puberty the way he's acting.

Vettel and Button copping off a few kisses and a hug off royalty, cheeky sods! Replay the part again, you'll see a smiling Prince Albert instantly turn into passive-aggressive face as soon as Vettel kissed that brunette, and when Button gave his future wife the hug he had to look away! :)

And well done to Kobayashi again as well, was a bit naughty with Sutil near the middle but a 5th, almost 4th was a best for him. Surprised DC and Martin didn't comment more on that actually.

Great F1 forum too, so many cuties in the pool party.

Pretty sure it's a charity related thing to raise money to help in Japan after the earthquakes.

The more I hear Hamilton speak the more I am coming to dislike him. He really thinks he's above everyone else. Why can't he admit he was at fault for both accidents instead of coming across as a complete twat with all sorts of ridiculous comments.

When he said in the car that Massa had deliberately turned into him, I thought how low can you go. Massa would never do a thing like that, he's not a cheating twat like you Hamilton.

Poor Maldonado, but well done Kobayashi? I'm a big fan of Kobayashi but arguably he wasn't even as far past as Lewis was on his move. I think we expect an awful lot of Lewis and am not particularly surprised that his aggression combined with the frustration of this weekend boiled over.

Shame for the Championship really, unless the exhaust changes fuck Red Bull over the contest will be gone very soon. The only reason that Brawn didn't have it won by half distance was that their development lead ran out, not so sure that will happen to RB with Newey.

IMO, Lewis Hamilton needs to stop believing in his own hype. BBC have a nack of "bigging" up British sportsmen that do well and Lewis seems to have fallen for it.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying that he isn't talented, he is prob one of the best drivers out there, but he is not above everyone else. Drivers "blocking" him are just defending their racing line and its not exactly like they can easily move out of his way in Monoco, he tried a couple of risky moves and some of them worked (Schumacher pass) others didnt (Massa etc). He should be more annoyed and frustrated at himself than at the team or FIA officials.

Again dont get me wrong, I love the fact that he is trying to pass and not just aimlessly wandering around, it does add to the excitement of a race. BUT, If YOU attempt a move that is risky.... ITS RISKY, there is risk involved in it, not just that you will crash out, but you will get brought up in the stewards, its considering ALL the risks.

I reckon the extra weight of the diamond-encrusted helmet was cutting off the circulation to Lewis' brain... that's the only thing that can account for so many bad decisions and then the unbelievable post-race comment that the stewards are picking on him. Fair enough, be frustrated at a bad performance, but to play the racism card is to lose all credibility. He has gone down a lot in my estimation, both as a driver and as a person.

Let's hope both Perez and Petrov recover quickly from their accidents.

While I thought Hamilton was in the wrong on both incidents, and his comments were ill judged, I did think he was led on a bit by the BBC interviewer who kept asking him why he was always being bought up before the stewards, and did he think they had it in for him.

I didn't think Lee McKenzie particularly led him on, just asked the obvious questions.

I do wonder if any of this is down to not having his father as his manager and maybe even Ron Dennis as a key figure in day to day life. I just imagine them as being the type of people that would put Hamilton in his place when needed, I think believing his own hype could be a part of the problem.

And at that particular corner, the slowest, tightest corner on the calendar he 'turned in' do fuck off lewis, it's never really a pass there and never has been.

And Fuller, he's a prize scumbag if ever I encountered one.

I don't follow F1 that closely, but I've always thought Hamilton is one of those folk that makes rash and often stupid mistakes when things aren't going his way. He could have bagged some decent points on Sunday from a poor position had he not acted in the manner he did.

Schumacher passed Hamilton there. Likewise Hamilton passed Schumacher at the Maldonado place. Might speak volumes that those two were able to do it with each other. Although in both cases there was slightly more overlap in the braking zone than in the Hammycrashes.

If you see the Maldonado replay onboard Hamilton though there is a moment where he slows slightly before braking, looks a bit like he's opening the door, then closes it. From Hamilton's view it definitely looks like an opportunity briefly:

At about 6 seconds

That's what I'm saying though, Maldonado looks like he slows slightly long before he needs to brake. Perhaps not sure what he was going to do, whereas the codger had the confidence to know exactly how to take it. Might be camera trickery though.

Still doesn't excuse Hamilton's terrible interview. Did anyone see Di Resta's? That's how it's done!

I do hope all of you who are planning the lynch mob for Hamilton also have the same opinion about Senna, you know, the guy who actually planned to ram others off of the road. Or ol' Schumacher.

Lewis tried a few stupid moves and they didn't pay off. I'd rather see a driver like that than 24 boring 'safe' drivers keeping a nice safe distance from themselves.

I don't think anybody is having a go at him for making moves, it's more a case of it's everybody else's fault when they go wrong. Brundle in the forum yesterday after the interview said that Hamilton is always blaming other people and at some point you've got to look at yourself, I think yesterday being one of them.

Aye, that is fair enough. But plenty in this thread were foaming at the mouth the moment he made the moves.

I think i'm glad i didn't see the race now.

Still, i'd rather watch a driver going bat shit mental crashing into things and trying to win a race, rather than Vettel cruise around to get yet another win. Even better that than said driver then says something other than "i'm very happy for the team and we tried 110% and this a the best result we could have got lets move on and see where we are".

Anyway, you lot are welcome to cheer on Trulli as much as you like. ;)
