Oh, there's loads of unusual racing car pictures I have found :).

For instance, here's Jochen Rindt driving an F2 Brabham. Aerodynamics were a bit of a mystery at the time, leading to the old 'the more the better' technique:

That illustrates one of the problems with modern F1. The rules are so tight, every car ends up look pretty much the same. I'd love to see what bats**t mental designs current teams would come out with if the rules were relaxed.

And a car doing 300 mph around the corners would make a very big mess if it went off. All the circuits are designed for safety up to a certain speed. Run off areas would need to be so large that you might as well not have spectators.

Bloody fun police. :(

Anyway, all I said was I would like was a bit of variety in the look of the cars. Everyone seems to like the crazy stuff like that 6 wheeler or that bi-plane effort posted earlier.

Ah, but will we see Lewis in blue soon? :sherlock:

I'm fairly sure Ferrari will roll into 2012 with Alonso and Massa, with McLaren also retaining Hamilton and Button. Think the second seat at Red Bull is going to be the main source of silly season rumour this year, as with the Mercedes seats.

Oh, and here's another view of that weird boomerang Tyrrell wing.

Sorry for this post as I haven't read the thread in a while and also find it a little harder to watch the GPs these days (time difference), but has something happened with Lewis at McLaren? Last I heard he was very happy there.

And what does "Lewis in blue" mean? Red Bull?!

Sorry for the probably obvious questions

Hehe, there's been a load of comments from both Red Bull and Hamilton this season which basically have gone like this:

Red Bull: 'Of course, if Hamilton was available we'd consider him'

Hamilton: 'Loyalty to McLaren has limits'

Red Bull: 'Er, actually forget what we said - we're happy with Webber'

Hamilton: '... yeah, I actually love McLaren too'

Red Bull: 'Nothing to see here!'

Hamilton: 'Moving onward...'

He'll more than likely stay at McLaren, but if they duff up the 2012 car then he might be tempted ;).

Oh wow, cracking stuff! Thanks for the info :)

I know that opinion is divided on him and he's a bit "marmite", but I personally love his racing style. He's almost always ahead of Button and to me is by far the superior racer and provides much more entertainment. Opinion is also divided on Vettel; whom I like for similar reasons. A showdown between Vettel and Hamilton in a Red Bull (clearly the fastest car) would be spectacular (in theory). I do rather like McLaren though, and Lewis has a long history there.

In practice, I don't mind seeing Hamilton the underdog try to everything he can to catch that Red Bull of Vettel's.

(Much love for the Knuckles avatar - see below)

He came with me on Hanami:

Yeah, I can imagine they might fall out at some stage. Button is Hamilton's ideal team mate in many ways - they get on okay, but when things do get tense (Turkey '10, their various battles this season) Jenson's relaxed enough that even if Lewis does get a bit over-excited/annoyed he will just stay calm and let Lewis do whatever. Can't see Vettel being the same.

Also, here's one for the tech chaps/anyone interested. I have a subscription to the PDF version of Autosport and this week's issue (out about 15 minutes ago) has a nice picture of some serious upgrades and changes to the Force India. Took the liberty of cropping it out - image is pasted below for your viewing pleasure ;) (spoilered as it's a big image).

EDIT: Haha, awesome! I have a Knuckles plush too... sadly his travels have been limited to Banbury and... er... Banbury :).

Ive always got the feeing that Hamilton was prefectly happy with things at McLaren. Now his father has been given the elbow he's much more chilled out.

But as ever... money talks and all that. plus show me a driver that doesn't want to drive an Adrian Newey car and i'll show you a liar etc.

YES! Alonso signed with Ferrari till 2016!!!

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/91491

That means no Lewis in red for the foreseeable future :omg: I was starting to get twitchy 8)

I'll celebrate it from the opposite side, glad to see Alonso will be sticking around, not that I really thought we'd see much movement with Alonso/Hamilton/Vettel. Massa on the other hand I'm still not sure about, great one week poor the next I do really like him and would love to see him win a championship with Ferrari, but I could see if not this season next being his last.

Not a clue, I mean why would you still be using XP?

So, last night I finally managed to watch 'The Speed Merchants', which is a 1972 film/documentary following that season's sports car championship. It's narrated by Vic Elford (a very fine driver himself, who was actually competing that year) and it's utterly wonderful - has some great footage of older circuits (Targa Florio!) and interviews with loads of the other drivers, as well as some really interesting 'behind the scenes' stuff with the drivers' home lives and what they did away from the track.

Part 1 is here, the full thing is up for anyone who fancies a watch. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Someone mentioned it before but I think it's just Simon Fuller stirring the pot so that when Lewis comes to renew his McLaren contract he can get more money. If he just wandered around saying he's going to stay at McLaren forever then there's less incentive for them to put together as good a package.

It's a good move all round I think, as much as the McLaren team work very hard, if they want Lewis to stay it's just that extra nudge to ensure they do a good job.

Yeah that's what i said before. All the stories started when Fuller joined. It's a classic PR move to strengthen negotiations etc. IMHO. I can't see Lewis moving anytime soon.
