I don't understand why people harp on about the turbo era. I never heard them in real life but on tele they sounded a bit shite to me.

Anthony Davidson thinks it's a good idea though, and that's good enough for me :)

I think the williams team need to stop worrying about anything other than their current performance, they've been terrible for years.

Would a 1.6turbo engine be more fuel efficient then? If they are it would mean great technology development for future road cars.

Presumably they'll run at a lower rev limit, which will reduce frictional losses and improve efficiency a bit.

You'd also potentially get a bit of an improvement in weight, I guess they'll still ballast to 620kg or whatever it is though.

One of the main justifications is as you say to closer match road cars. It's the huge rev limit that allows them to get 7-800 horsepower from a non turbo 2.4, and makes the technology so expensive.

I think we can all agree that David Coulthard in the commentary box has been a worthwhile addition, right? He has slight faults, but a clear improvement over Legard, no one can argue about that. Except for NATASHA from LEICESTER

She got rant of the week too. That's a tenner in prize money!

Being on the road I couldn't watch the race live so I had to wait till I found some WiFi to download it.

Bagged a feed of the BBC from Piratebay and last night sat in the van ready for some racing action. First hiccup happened when my MacBook battery ran out five laps from the end, it was 1:30am and I didn't fancy putting the engine on to charge it up so I figured I'd just sleep on it, perhaps dream about some of the best 50 laps of F1 I've seen in a long time.

So I wake up at 7am this morning, put the engine on and juice up the Mac for the final 5 laps of excitement.

Second hiccup, the fucking feed stops at the end of lap 55. Just as Webber passes Button the thing stops and I nearly let out the biggest wail of my life. WTF.

Can someone describe the last lap for me?

DId Button give up after Webber passed him?

Did Webber get close to Vettel?

Yeah. He leaves Brundle hanging fairly regularly (remains silent when he's been set up to make a comment) and has a clear Red Bull bias (quick defend any criticism aimed at them), but nothing that's annoying as Legard!

I think Button just dropped off once Webber went past (or at least maintained his original pace and didn't obviously fight back), and Webber didn't really get near Vettel. If the race had been two or three laps longer it would have been a different matter though!

Can't be too hard to make her a tape of Legard's phrases that she can play every few seconds through the race. It'll be like he is back again.

With the extra bonus that they'd have no relation at all to the on track action, for added Legardness.

And this is CRUCIAL!

And this could be CRUCIAL!

A CRUCIAL move!

This could be CRUCIAL for the World Championship!

FUCK OFF AND LEARN MORE WORDS, LEGARD.

She could also have just taped a dog barking to get one of Legard's more famous sayings.

WOOF! There's a problem there!

WOOF! Hamilton's really pushing there!

A great start for Massa! WOOF!

WHAT A LAP BY SEBASTIAN VETTEL! WOOOOOF!

Also, during the 2010 Canadian Grand Prix there was a bit where Hamilton and Alonso were racing and one of them came into the pits whilst the other continued to hassle Webber. Instead of explaining this, Legard said something along the lines of 'ALONSO! HAM... HAMILTON! ARBALARARAJARARA PITS!'

Brundle and Coulthard have been brilliant so far this season, and Sunday's grid walk with Jake Humphrey was excellent too (as he was nearly run over by a car, and caught Vettel doing some DIY on the water tube in his helmet)

As for the move to greener engines, there are teams opposing it just because it could see Volkswagen join as a competitor - and they don't like the idea of having such a large shark jump into their pond.

The fuck? :quote::blink:

In light of recent comments from those who are against the move away from V8s towards a ‘greener’ engine, including Bernie Ecclestone and Luca di Montezemolo, Parr says that there is no going back on the direction of travel.

He also makes a point I’ve not heard before that with the 2013 engines, when the car is in the pit lane, it will be running on pure electric only, a very interesting step and quite a message, if you think about it.

Sounds

I think this is a pretty great demonstration of why the turbos were brilliant.

But why would it not be good without a turbo?

Exactly, all the turbo era had is more power than grip - turbos as a purist are not as good as having a NA engine.

Getting rid of wings would be the same as having turbos today and noone calls for that, engine regs limit the power as today without them NA engines could have vastly more power than the turbo era!

That is actually brilliant!

I'd never thought about using the exhaust gases to drive a turbine. Engines waste so much energy as heat and that would be a way to recoup some of it. Tricky issue with regard to exhaust scavenging I'd imagine though.

Definitely development that would be useful for road cars as well.
