These early races are controlling my drinking during the weekend, it's fantastic waking up on a sunday without a headache for once. ^_^

True that. The problem is instead going out on weekdays instead to keep weekends clear.

Love Mike Gascoyne's Twitter commentary of their taxi ride from airport to hotel:

Taxi jorney from airport in china, driver totally lost and after one hour we directed him back to airport, 2 hours in now, no chance

about 2 hours ago via ÜberSocial

We leave hotel for circuit in 6 hours, 50/50 if we make it to hotel before then

about 2 hours ago via ÜberSocial

Driver pushing on now, just means we miss the correct exit quickly rather than slowly

about 2 hours ago via ÜberSocial

Either taxi driver is constantly pressing the brake pedal, or auto transmission about to shit itself, just gets better

about 2 hours ago via ÜberSocial

Driver slowing down to turn off motorway, sign of knowledge or total ineptitude. If we base it on past experience.............

about 2 hours ago via ÜberSocial

Driver now seems very confident but have now worked out only english word he knows is 'ok' His boss sacked him 30 mins ago by phone, maybe that's the way they do incentive schemes here in china

about 2 hours ago via ÜberSocial

Trying to expand taxi drivers english vocabulary to include the word idiot

about 2 hours ago via ÜberSocial

Taxi driver now making lewis hamiltons two changes of direction look absolutly trivial. Hoping we don't get a 20 hour time penalty

about 1 hour ago via ÜberSocial

Ok, taxi driver just started to use hard shoulder as overtaking lane, could get a lttle 'jaded' now if I let myself

about 1 hour ago via ÜberSocial

Stopped for fuel but station closed, should I be worried

44 minutes ago via ÜberSocial

I've just seen a sign for the town I think the hotel is in and it is only 3km away, hope springs eternal,

only 3 hours in 31 minutes ago via ÜberSocial

Only question is if our taxi driver has seen it or knows that is where we are going. Only 4 hours til leave for the circuit in the morning

29 minutes ago via ÜberSocial

Taxi driver has slowed right down, seems to be in fuel saving mode, bit of a worry

27 minutes ago via ÜberSocial

Arrived, only took 4 hours almost a disapointing anticlimax to arrive safely. See you all for P1 soon

Guys - Is there a way to Sky+ the practice sessions? Or do you have to watch it on Red Button / iPlayer?

I don't know the precise mechanics on sky but on freeview the red button channels are actually just well hidden channels so you might be able to just do a timed record on the right number.

But broadly, iplayer.

They showed pretty much the whole of that amazing 1989 GP at Suzuka on the red button last night, the one where Senna and Prost come together at the chicane. I'd forgotten how epic that battle was, with Senna charging up behind Prost closing the gap from about 4 seconds behind. Definitely one of the most exciting races ever.

I'd highly recommend watching it if they show it again.

I still feel it was harsh to disqualify Senna from that one. The clash was Prost's fault, and Senna cutting the chicane (the reason given for the disqualification) hardly gained him any sort of advantage. If anything it was far safer for him to do that than just reverse back onto the circuit.

Interesting times in today's session. Vettel didn't use the DRS on his fastest P2 lap so it's fair to guess that Red Bull have a lot more time in their pockets, McLaren struggled a little bit and Mercedes were running with a good amount of fuel on their fastest laps, but did use their DRS which is the best on the grid... if it works. Sadly for them it keeps getting stuck in funny positions, and they're also having cooling/KERS issues too.

Not sure what was wrong with Heidfeld today . I could almost hear him on the radio quivering 'sowwy guys, I cwashed again'.

I think it really was six of one half a dozen of the other, at the end of the day Senna was push started back into the race which was against the rules, even though he wasn't disqualified for that. The amazing thing was that McLaren appealed, which if they had won, would have taken the championship away from Prost! They also played the interview with Prost after the race where he made his frustration very clear.

That interview is rather haunting now, what with the events of Imola. "The problem with Ayrton is that he doesn't think he can kill himself, because he believes in God".

Senna's pre-event post conference at the next race remains one of my favourite Senna moments too - allegedly people there from the press were deathly silent and Senna himself spent most of the time on the verge of tears. "I will not walk away from the fight. My beliefs and values are stronger than the will of those who try to destroy them".

(can't find it on Youtube sadly).

Which would also have got him disqualified of course. As Esar says, he should actually have been disqualified for the push start.

is it May 5th yet? Can't wait to see the Senna movie!!!!! :omg:

No it's still April unfortunately, plus the preview screening is on May 3rd. Your abundant excitement is destroying your grip on time itself - pull yourself together dude.

I think the real problem is that the penalties effected the drivers disproportionately (didn't hurt Ferrari at all - quel fucking surpris). If you get a penalty for a passing maneouvre, surely it would be better to put you down a position rather than an arbitrary amount of time.
