Just seen on twitter that the HRT's are not being allowed to race tomorrow.

I think the point you'd comfortably be outqualified by GP2 cars is the point that becomes the right decision.

Or to put this another way, if you ignore that in the race in question Jacques V outqualified literally everyone by 2 seconds, the HRTs are slower than the Mastercard Lolas were in 1997.

Right decision on HRT. I think in fairness Liuzzi didn't do a bad job, probably the same for the engineers and mechanics trying to get the thing built. I do wonder what would have happened if we raced in Bahrain. The real problem is the management who really aren't doing anything to convince people the team isn't a joke and deserves its place on the grid. Too early to say obviously with things like the new tyres but Lotus and Virgin didn't exactly look to be making moves forward up the grid.

Plus if I focus on these things I can avoid the disappointment of Ferrari and Heidfeld.

Really enjoyed that session, fuck yeah Kobayashi :D He's going to have a great season in the Sauber if they can keep that up!

and those Hispania's look dangerously slow, I wouldn't like to be Vettel lapping one.

I haven't watched Q yet, but before I watch it on iPlayer, is it only the race in HD? Or is the fact Q isn't showing up in HD on iPlayer just the BBC messing things up?

To be honest, I wasn't very impressed with the quality of the HD picture. I was watching through a SkyHD box if that makes any difference.

[edit]

But yeah, quali was broadcast on the BBC HD channel.

Ok, thanks. A lot of the time, they simply don't put the 'watch in HD' button there. You need to manually backtrack through BBC HD listings and watch it that way.

So if red bull are using this start only Kers system I can see them being pretty exposed.

Kers by name is kinetic energy recovery system. If the system is being charged in the pits I can see the other teams winning an argument to get that stopped pretty easily.

Also what if there is a re-start or a safety car. Again they would be very exposed.

If Hamilton can get within 1second of Vettel on the straight the red bull would have minimal defence again drs & Kers.

All in all it should be very interesting. No doubt the RB7 is the best car on the grid at the moment, but I can see issues ahead depending on which way the FIA look. If they get nerfed on their Kers & still IMHO very illegal flexi wing system they'll be in trouble.

Any technical info on this single use KERS system? Is it not actually charged by the car at all (warm up lap?)? Is it compulsory otherwise what is the point of having it at all if only to propell you off the line to then drag it round for 60 laps?

Even with it they'll still be under the minimum weight. They're banking the weight advantage over those with heavier normal KERS will offset not having it, especially since this will ensure they're not losing places at the start.

It's very smart. Cynical, but smart.

They have use ballast to make sure they are at the minimum weight, but they can balance the car better but moving this again.

Again clever but I'm thinking they might be pushing the FIA too hard soon & i'm hoping for some banhammer action.

I don't see why the FIA need to get involved. They have a system that appear to be one shot and there's nothing in the rules about that. They still have the minimum weight, and the ballast can't be moved around too much anyway. So as long as they tick all those boxes they can do what they like can't they ?

There are other teams not running a system at all.

From the look of it they're almost a second faster in race trim than anyone else so i don't think it's hurting them too much. There are real penalties for going off line after 4 laps so i think they're banking on being far enough ahead to avoid having to defend anything.

It seems that it isn't available in HD on iPlayer at all.

I was up at stupid o'clock to go racing today where I had a day of Sauber esque proportions, good but not as good as it could have been. But I did get to see the end of qualifying. The only comment I have is that it took me a good half an hour before I realised something was missing, the something being Leg-end. For me, that has to be an absolute bonus. What time does this shit kick off properly tomorrow? not the build up about 5 mins before lights out?

I found the on screen graphics really obtrusive today during qualifying. The list showing the times was virtually near the middle of the screen! Why can't they just place it along the bottom or push it to the edge of the screen? Don't remember them being this bad last season.

Enjoyed Brundle commentating - much better than boring Legard.
