Not a fan of the way they are identifying tyre compounds, very hard to see when they are spinning around. Am I right in thinking there is also no way to tell from the cockpit view either?

Well that's not too bad a line up if I look to my Fantasy F1 team. I want the MacLaren boys to win, but I've got Vettel, Rosberg and Alonso in my Fantasy team, so it's not a bad top ten. Alonso is doing better than Massa, Rosberg better than Shumi and Vettel better than Webber.

Could be a good result either way.

Great quali, Vettel amazingly fast. Mclaren back in the thick of it. Very impressed by Petrov where was quick Nick? Kobayashi also fast. Schumi & Barrichello very poor

Sounds like Martin and David will work well, but they're going to need a couple of races to warm up. There was a weird change in cadence from Martin compared to what we're used to. Felt a bit too forced.

There's a difference here though - it sounds like Lewis had an unexpected technical failure with his KERS, meaning his brake balance would have been all wonky, whereas both Red Bulls deliberately ran with KERS switched off meaning they would have corrected the brake balance accordingly before they went out.

Makes Lewis' performance that much more impressive and means with everything working properly he is potentially closer to Vettel than we saw this morning. That's assuming that McLaren didn't know about the KERS problem before he went out of course...

As for why Red Bull turned KERS off, I doubt they are sandbagging. Presumably they are not comfortable with the weird braking effect caused by the energy harvesting and the benefit of the speed boost doesn't outweigh that downside.

Obviously they need to turn it on for the race or they will be shafted by Lewis at the start.

Yeah, good point - possibly a sign that the KERS failure was unexpected and the brake balance was too far forward.

Also; the HDness was most impressive. So much better than even the upscaled stuff towards the end of last season. Shame that they seem to get the graphics overlaid in the shared with SD source rather than sent separately (probably saves a lot of money in satellite comms) so all the timings & stuff are stuck way too far into the picture.

(Speaking of which; earthquake video related: does Japanese TV always have such big graphics overlays getting in the way or was that a special style used because it was an ongoing emergency?)
