Schumachers got a new merc to play with. I'll gor for a podium for the old bastard.

I'd like to agree, but unfortunately I can't see anything happening to bring him closer to Rosberg. Poor old Norbert just doesn't want to accept the signals I'm pretty sure his gut it telling him. I've got a lot of time for him - his enthusiasm is great, especially in the post race forum.

I recon Vettel for the win, Mclaren's closely behind. I think Ferrari will be in the mix early on too, but a decent lump of time behind come the flag. My feeling is that the Mclaren is now faster than the Ferrari, although there is no way to tell till we get a 'regular' (boring) dry race. I fear Barcelona will be exactly that. 3 Weeks of waiting for what I'm sure will be a snooze fest!

The race will be decided by tyres, not engines or aero. Obviously qualifying will be a lot different.

I have driven the Circuit de Catalunya and it isn't made for overtaking. So we could get trains where someone with bad tyres holds up people with good tyres.

Ferrari may have identified the problem, but i'm not sure they have the time to fix it.

Button, Vettel and Hamilton to be chasing the cup i think. If Vettel can get another front row, and the thing holds together, then i don't think theres anything to stop him. The Mclarens will be close behind as their F-Duck does seem to work.

I'm off to Spa for the 1000km LMS race so i don't care what happens at the Spainsh dull-a-thon. Spain is never an exciting test as everyone is trying out new bits and trying to get it all tweeked up.

The BBC five live F1 podcast is short and sweet. but very good none the less.

I also listen to Radio Le Mans wednesday night podcast. It's more general Motorsport Sports car racing in particular. But they have Nick Damen doing the F1 bit and he knows his onions.

It's so hard to call the fastest driver in an F1 race as there's always so many factors to consider, someone who is leading will turn the revs down to increase reliability, or the different drivers will have different aero setups that suits their style but the track might not suit their style of setup.

The Button/Hamilton pairing has worked out really well for racing entertainment value, go Brits!

The Mercedes has had a fairly major redesign to suit the cobbler. They have lengthened the wheelbase a lot and put a major aerodynamic upgrade package on it. There is no doubt that MS has been struggling to get traction out of corners, you can hear it on the in car coverage. Also he has had genuine bad luck, which can't continue all season. There is no doubt that his superb racecraft and team work is still there. So podiums can't be too far away.

They are also saying that the extra rear traction may cause extra rear tyre wear.

It's funny how the cars (and probably, more to the point- the tyres) have changed during Schuey's absence, and now they're having to seriously change the overall design of the car to suit how he is used to driving. I think it would be fantastic if they managed to get a good enough redesign to mean that Schuey was much, much more competitive- to the point where he was dominating. Not to see Schuey win, but to see how the other teams coped with it- and if they had to redesign their cars, who would benefit from this redesign.

It would mean we would get more of a mash-up mid-season!

If he drove, like he drove when he was trying to keep Hamilton behind him, all the time. I would have said yeah, new car should do the trick. But he's not driven like that at all. I don't think he has the edge anymore and i think it's going to end in tears. Before the end of the season.

I think they're completely different things, racecraft is conscious thought, something which you don't lose with age. Hot-lapping is more of a dark art where the driver reacts in a constant feedback loop to the sensations he gets back from the car, almost without having to think about it.

For me it's less of a measurable thing, but whenever you see Schumacher's eyes in the car he looks kind of nervous and worn out.

Worn out by a car with a front end that won't turn in like he expects and a back end that spins up the wheels when he tries to gas it out of the corners.

Understandable.

If they make the car work how he wants and needs he won't look worn out, he will be jumping on top of the podium.

I really hope Schumacher makes a decent comeback now - it'd be such a shit end to his career if he ends it being a midfielder at best. They need to have a F1 classics running along with the normal races so we can see the likes of Schumacher, Hill, Irvine etc behind the wheel going for it.

That's not a bad idea, run it as a support race either side of the GP. It could never stand alone like they've tried to in the past, and it should only be for the european season perhaps. 1 make series could provide a bit of filler after the races.
