Is it illegal to change the ride height, or is that only when in parc ferme? I know you're not allowed to adjust the ride height when the car is moving too, but what if the car did that by itself without human interaction?

You're not allowed to make any changes human or otherwise to the suspension set up when the car is under parc ferme conditions, which is from the first time it leaves the pit lane in qualifying to the start of the race. You can change it during the race in the pit stops, which is what Ferrari do.

The FIA said they counldn't find anything illegal

Sometimes it needs a tip off...All it takes is a disgruntled engineer.

If not, I wouldn't be surprised if Mclaren show what they were going to do to their car to the FIA, prompting little light lightbulbs to appear in their minds. Cue re inspection of the RB's.

If RB have been naughty I recon they'd just get told to take it off the car, rather than retrospective disqualification. F1 has had too much scandal in the press.

they would have to be disqualified from all races they used it in IMO, as they cheated. (If they have it etc etc)

I recon it would come under the car being legal at the time, before the rule clarification. Just like Mclaren's diffuser/starter motor hole mod. They didn't get disqualified from the first race, despite taking the piss a bit.

Indeed. See the BAR debacle in 2005. They weren't banned from previous races but they were given a 2 race ban.

I don't think Redbull have anything dodgy though. I know they ground out on low fuel a couple times but maybe it's something really simple like a reverse bump rubber or a spring to push down on the suspension to stop it getting too high. Well I'm clearly not an engineer but just by the body and actual language from Horner, I really don't think they are doing anythng dodgy at all.

Round 4 and the Bernie loving peoples republic of shooting dissidents and stopping the internet of China. It’s another chance to count the spectators. I think there will be at least 2 empty stands this year and nobody insight for qualifying. Which is a shame because that’s all that there will be of interest.

Ferrari are leading both championship, more by luck than judgement though. Massa has had a whole bunch of good finishes keeping Alonso behind him. The Spaniard is all sweetness and light and “hahahah ahr what a great bloke the Brazilian is ho ho” in front of the camera. Behind closed doors I bet it’s a much different story. Both drivers need to beat the other. But they appear to have an engine cooling issue on the hotter tracks.

McLaren have had some good luck and some bad luck. Lot’s of speed but piss poor pit calls and trying to be too cleaver have left them 10 points short of Ferrari. One aggressive driver and one smooth is giving the pit wall plenty of racing options. The fastest thing in a straight line, the Mclaren has been reliable and there or there about every race. A good qualifying from both drivers could see a 1-2 this time out.

Redbull should have won all three by rights so far. But bad luck and Webber have conspired to stop them. If it holds together its a very fast car, if the FIA find out how they’re changing the ride height in Parc Ferme, it's a very banned car. Vettel won with ease last year on a wet Sunday, I can see it happening again this year. Faster over a lap that anyone else, consistency and reliability are the only things holding them back from another 1-2.

Mercedes are pushing for a top 5 placing with Rosberg, whilst Mickey sits at the back if the pits and complains about how it was all so much harder in his day. Ross Brawn is telling all and sundry that Mickey will come good any day now, which is surely the first sign of imminent retirement. They don’t have the speed of the Redbull or McLarens but they have Ross on the pit wall and he's worth a second a lap.

Renault and Kubica are having a good start to the season, can they keep ahead on the development curve ?? I very much doubt it. This isn’t a factory team anymore and the boss isn’t in it to win it. Petrov has money and some talent, but no experience or luck, thus he is the perfect Renault number 2 driver. With Flav getting a grudging hand shake from Todt, he must be looking at his old team and making a few phone calls, will the team be distracted or spured on to greatness.

Force India continue to do good things with less money. A solid mid field team, defiantly a top 10 runner, but which driver will get the break this weekend. Sutil did a lot to restore peoples faith in him last time out, whilst Liuzzi has quitly got on with things. The FI boys could even trouble the top five this weekend with a low down force setting and a nice long straight to get the Merc purring.

Williams continue to pick up the starting money. They’re already starting to slid down the pecking order. Hulkenberg has so far been less than impressive.

Torro Rosso have two good drivers shocker. But an awful car. If the rest drop the ball they could be in the top ten.

BMW (Sauber) ….. oh dear, running on fumes in testing to get sponsorship always falls apart at the first race. This team was going for the championship 2 years ago, now they look dead in the water, the only happy people here are the BMW execs who pulled the plug when the going got tough

Lotus are winning the best of the new boys race but only just. Fast (er) then the other newbies. They need to develop the car to stay ahead of an improving Virgin. More proffesional and conservative than Virgin they might be too conservative for their own good.

Virgin won the new boys race last time out, the tanks too small but they still got a car to the end. Have they turned the corner or was it blind luck.

HRT …. Rubbish, but Chandhok is a nice down to earth bloke. Senna is still trading on the name. Both cars did finish ahead of the bench mark Lotus in Malaysia however, so there is hope there, somewhere.

I think this could be a Vettel/Hamilton fight. Rain would give Vettel the edge, Hamilton has had some of the best races of his career so far. Both look to be right at the top of their game right now.

I thought Buemi was pretty good last season, deserved another season. Alguersuari has had some good results so far this season, but to be honest I can't actually recall seeing much if anything of either of them so far this season.

more importantly you haven't seen them facing the wrong direction and clouting other drivers. They've kept it on the island and avoided the bigger boys when they turn up. Algy made a few passes in Malaysia, mostly rubbish newbies but he took the chances when they presented themselves. He also made Mickey work for his money in Australia, which is always good to see.

Just throwing out there.. I don't think MS is going to finish the season. I can see him calling it a day after Hockenheim.

I think you'll find i have all ready nailed my colours to that mast before the Malaysian GP

mini wave in celebratino of me *weeeeeeeeee*

but yeah, he'll get bored driving around in tenth all year.

It's a long way out but a couple of forecasts have rain for Sunday. I can't recall one Chinese Grand Prix so will have to fire up F1 CE and have a go on the track. Given it's a tilke drome and I can't recall a race or the track some rain will hopefully liven it up a bit. If Mickey Shoes does cock up here and it's wet things should get interesting.

I don't think he will, I'm sure he's set a three year plan to himself with a couple of podiums for year 1. Anyway, if you read/see any interview with him, he was obviously bored with being retired and he seems genuinely happy to be racing, irrespective of where he finishes. And I think he would look at quitting mid-season as being more of a failure than trying to see out at least one full season.

He's frankly had not that great a car, some really shitty luck and he's obviously a bit rusty (lack of practise certainly helped towards that). I'd be surprised if he hasn't improved dramatically by the second half of this season.

Well Nico isn't doing to badly in a "not great car" and if that continues I think he'll consider his time over. Better to leave on a high than arse around the midfiled looking ordinary. being over taken by Torro Rossos !
