The Formula 1 Thread

Is anyone thinking that these "cheaper, longer" units are killing off the pure competitiveness of the sport? Instead of flat out racing, the drivers are thinking about saving the engine, gearbox for the next 2/3 races, or the tyres for this race - they interviewed Kobayashi and he said both Saubers had to retire so they wouldn't incur a grid penalty for the next race. WTF? It's like Gordon Brown's "Prudence" rubbish all over

Yeah I agree. F1 should be about squeezing every drop of power out of the car. They should be building Usain Bolts, but instead are churning out Paula Radcliffes.

It's ridiculous. That's not what you want from Kobayashi, is it? You want him to be able to stay out there and actually race like the mental he is.

Very impressive drive by Alonso, great pass at the beginning setting him up for what looks like the win. Also the 6 seconds he pulled out on Massa after taking Vettel really shows who is likely to be the boss of that team this year. Although to be fair to Massa it's amazing to see him back racing let alone where he is.

Bring back the turbo (the proper one, not KERS), standardise the gearbox and other major parts bar the engine and aero so costs are kept down, then abolish this 3 race engine + gearbox limit, with no penalties if they blow prematurely. That will make it better.

All this.

And for fuck's sake, bring back refueling!

Aye, another year where I will be more interested in the results than the actual racing. I watched the first ten minutes and the last ten minutes of this GP. Did I miss anything?

If Vettel's exhaust hadn't cracked I think we'd have had an excellent race at the end.

I doubt it, I don't think the Ferraris would have been able to keep the hear down. I think it would have ended up in the same procession as Schumacher, Button, Webber. If Webber couldn't pass Button in a car that was at times almost a second quicker seemingly than the Mclaren I can't see that Alonso would have got past Vettel.

No thanks. I think Alonso had the pace to catch Vettel in the latter stages without that exhaust problem. We need to give this a few races. I liked it. No fuel stops to cloud things over. I've had visitors during the race so I've not been able to pay full attention, but there was some overtaking, mechanical failures etc. An interesting race rather than a thriller. It needs time to develop IMO.

Yeah, but Webber was driving it. He's shit. At one point he was over 35 seconds behind Vettel.

I can't unsee the blank-space '1' in the F1 logo any more, after someone pointed it out in another thread recently. I'm not sure how I never noticed it before.

That's the most interesting contribution I can make to this thread after watching that massive waste of 3 hours.
