Is the general 'muk consensus that the changes to the rules will result in more exciting racing, and should I give it a chance this season?

The last two years have been exciting. The rule changes won't make a big difference to that but the mix of drivers and teams could. There won't be such a development race this year at the top though. I think it'll balance out.

If you red button the BBC and go to the sports multiscreen bit, the F1 team are sitting around talking about the up comming season. Worth 15 minutes of any petrol heads time.

EJ is rather scathing of the new rule that the top 10 have to race on the tires they qualified on. Whilst Martin make the interting point that teams will be watching who makes the first pit stop and reacting to that. No one will want o be out on old rubber with faster cars on fresh rubber behind them.

I shall be mashing the red button a bit later on this evening.

Good to see they retained EJ for his witty Irish simpleton stupidity. Webber to be racing V8 holdens next year I think. While on the subject of Trulli, please tell me that Lotus aren't actually paying that long eye a salary?

I think it's all up to watch on the BBC F1 sports page too. About an hours worth of chat for those interested...

Yeah I've been watching on the website. I assume that way the BBC get viewing figures to show it's worth their while too.

I've just taken delivery of my projector for life-size cockpit views this weekend :quote:

Is there a decent Formula 1 podcast around?

I'm looking for something similar as Football Weekly to catch up with the new regulations and build up excitement for the first race.

Chequered flag from five live is decent. It's pretty much race dependant though. None in the off season but two per race.

Gareth Jones on speed is good. It's motoring/F1 but highly entertaining.

Excellent - we have a pretty decent number in the league now.

If anyone wants to make it more interesting, then a friend runs a league on the same site (so you'd use the same team), but charges a £10 entry fee. Each race, the team with the most points wins £10, then there is a 1st, 2nd, 3rd place prize at the end of the season. It's all good fun, and proved rather profitable for me last year :quote:

If you're interested, drop me a PM with your email and I'll get you added to the mailing list which has sign up details.

I think Lotus will finish with 1 car, Virgin will retire before half distance and HRT will got home after qualifying after both cars burst into flames and crash in the first corner grandstand.

It's worth remembering that HRT didn't build or design the car, Dallara did and they know what the fuck they're doing. Amongst their products you may have heard of are "The entire GP2 field", "The entire Indycar field", "The entire world series by Renault field", "Every Formula 3 car worth a damn", "The entire GP3 series field" and they were also the original constructors of a little LeMans project known as the "Audi R8".

Oh and they've scored 2 podiums in F1 before as well.

Point is, while I'm sure they've been interrupted on this car a bit with the financial uncertainty, they're not HRT and while it may have problems with lack of testing, expecting complete failure is unlikely.

F1 Rejects would be my personal recommendation.

They've also made several attempts in the past that weren't worth a wank. 5 years of effort with a fistful of points and many aborted projects in between. I'm far from convinced.

A fistful of points would be a complete dream for HRT at this point. MY point is not that they will rock everyone, it was in reply to the guy expecting them to explode constantly.

That said, if I had to bet, I'd bet on it turning out to be the quickest of the 3 newbies as a car, although they don't have the drivers.

I've put Senna in my F1 team, purely on the wildcard that maybe he won't disgrace his Uncle too much..

I'm well aware it's Dallare that have built the car. But i was under the impresseion that's all they've done. Dallara handed the car over to campos with a box of spanner and said "there you go son" when Campos couldn't pay up they held onto the car. Then matey buys out Campos and Dallara have handed over the car, untest, half finished with, as i understand it, no contract to develope or maintain the car.

So Dallara may have it's name on the VIN plate, but HRT will be developing it. It's those bozzows i think will blow it up. Or Senna will crash it.
