How did they deserve it, just by buying a couple of old cars and having a friend in Bernie?

They're not old cars. They are Toyotas 2010 cars. And they've sent them to Bahrain already just incase a team pulled out at the last minute. They've repeatedly said they in a position to race in Bahrain.

They hadn't sent them yet, just some containers of something. Not sure they'd even bought the cars, just an agreement to buy them if they get a spot on the grid. If they'd bought the whole Toyota operation factory and all, which wouldn't happen, you might be able to argue they get the spot as they have the means to develop a car for next year. But as it stand I'm not sure what they do have, they've said help from the Serbian Aero industry, which doesn't seem to mount to much and the wind tunnels aren't suitable for F1 either. Apparently the claims of his engeneering company have been called into question.

It all looks quite a risk to allow them in now, I think it is the right decision by the FIA. We're better off setting up a new application process and making sure we get a team serious about it and actually has the capabilities and resources to be in F1 for the long term.

I'd think there are practicalities that prevent them from being ready for the first race (such as the car has to go through extensive crash testing procedures, and I'm sure someone from McLaren once said it takes nearly a fortnight between shipping the parts off to the FIA and getting a yay or nay back), and I can understand the arguement for then not letting teams in after the season has started.

Just a shame they didn't pull the plug a bit on USF1 a bit earlier...

I've always stayed in Nice each time I've been.

The airport is in Nice and you can get the train to Monaco, you dont need a hire car.

EDIT: I should add that its easy to get the train as well, they are freqent and only take around 20/30 mins IIRC

He is right, you won't need a hire car if you stay somewhere sensibly located in Nice.

I should have said:

IF you have a hire car, the Formulae 1 in Nice is cheap.

If you're not sure what an F1 (hotel) is, it's sort of like a travel lodge, but more budget based. Each room has a double bed with single bunk style bed above it, a window, TV and sink.

Toilets and showers are free to use but located on landings. They are these kinda wierd self cleaning plastic moulded things.

(there are photos on the website accorhotels.com, they all look identical)

Better than a hostel as you have a private room

Worse than a travel lodge / ibis as you share bathroom and showers.

I like them :)

F1 hotels usually located on or near motorways, the Nice one is in the industrial part of Nice (or certainly it looked like it!) hence the hire car need :D They also tend not to have resturants attached like an ibis would.

A room is something like 25 or 30 EUR for up to 3 people (price per room) with a couple of extra Euro getting you some toast and jam / OJ for breakfast.

Nice is something like 20 miles (less) from Monaco. Not sure about track access, never been to the GP unfortunately. I reckon they close off many parts of Monaco and erect really big fences to stop people seeing in during the GP though so it's probably a ticket access or sit up on the hill with binoculars job...

That's some really useful info! Thanks so much. With renting a car, surely parking it at the other end would be a bit of a nightmare if all the roads get closed off? Getting into the circuit should be fine - work placement - it's just the logistics of going to such an expensive part of the world during peak time that's complicating things for me!

Nose looks similar to the Virgin one, but what on earth is going on with those massive front brake ducts?

I didn't see the brake ducts at first because i was drawn to the MASSIVE hole above the driver's head. You could put your head in there and inspect the engine.

It's a vent for bleeding out for that time of the month.

From the Concorde Agreement:

So from my very limited understanding of what it says, there's no reason Sauber can't change their name from the ridiculous BMW Sauber Ferrari since they've already run with the Sauber name in the past. Is that right?

It would seem to suggest that, there is an F1 Commission meeting next week so it could be done at that if they want to. I guess one thing you have to consider is the cost to re-brand, if they're struggling for money there's more important things to spend money on.

Is that picture from the previous Concorde agreement?

HA!

The truth about Stefan is starting to creep out...

Linky

Saw something similar yesterday about how his company had nothing to do with the Ariane 5 rocket despite their claim. It does all seem a bit shady, never sure exactly where the money was coming from. It's a good job he's not in F1, last thing it needs is another big controversy.

Yeah it is, I have a PDF of the whole document, it's a pretty interesting read. It's password locked so I can't copy and paste from it though, hence the screenshot. I always thought the problem with changing names was that you would effectively count as a new entrant and therefore lose your accumulated share of TV money from previous years' entries.
