Just Ferrari so far, but they had them last year so I guess they can put one on if needed. I was sure people said last year that they don't actually notice any difference with them and not sure if they actually do much. Only McLaren's seems to be something genuinely new, as it's part of the cooling and looks like it allows them to pack the rear tighter.

I still don't have a clue on what that Renault is, seems to either definitely the new R30, or R30 with R29 wings or a modified R29, but it is the new livery, hopefully it will become clearer tomorrow.

Apparently the new teams may be allowed three ‘no-shows’ this season. If true just shows what a mess the team selection was, you can bet Prodrive would have been there.

So we have a diffuser row brewing, possibility of teams not showing up, a team with Toyota's cars desperate for one of the places, confusion over cars, F1 is well and truly back for a new season. :hat:

I share Martin Whitmarsh's confusion as to why none of the other teams took the Toyota car on.

It proved itself to be extremely good at the start of the season - it was them and Brawn at the front on pace (OK a lot of that was due to double diffusers), and Kobayashi jumped straight in it and was quick, unlike new drivers attempting to use the Ferrari, Torro Rosso and Renault cars.

Will Schumacher be testing at Silverstone and is it ever possible to get into these things?

Well someone snook in with a long lens to pap Williams here last week but there's no official public access.

I can't see the teams bothering, after Valencia. Williams were on Stowe purely for a shakedown as obviously they aren't allowed to test unofficially and there's big holes in the GP circuit at the minute!

It's another downside of the testing ban, before it you could buy tickets to see the testing at Silverstone in the summer for about £15 a piece.

Nice cheap way to experience the sounds and sights of F1 for real.

Back in the day (96, 97) it used to be free. I used to head down there instead of going to college to watch the testing and even managed to swing a job at the GP one year as a result (nothing glamorous, but it got me a great pass and I watched the whole race for free ;) )

It was a far more relaxed atmosphere as well.

I visited the circuit with uni in 2005 for the test. Got a site tour and pit lane walk, watching them approach Copse stood on the pit wall will stay with me forever.

No chance of that now.

I do like the Mercedes, livery does suit it better than the Brawn.

Going back to Twitter, James Allen has just launched a new site JA on F1 Tweets which pulls together twitter feeds from F1 people and allows you to sort them by different categories. So currently you can say go for live from Valencia and see all the updates from people at the track, really good site and you don't need to be signed up to Twiter to use it.

Some Valencia timing info.

Here's a question...

Why is the F1 testing all in Spain (as far as I can tell, it's only Valencia and Barcelona)? It's something I don't really get, Spain's never been really that into F1 (apart from Alonso coming into it in the past few years) and yet it's got 2 GPs and 2 pre-season testing.

Is it part of Bernie's attempt to give more money to his best mate Flav, until it all went wrong and he lost the Spanish TV rights.. and, well.. got pushed out of F1.

It all seems a bit strange, really.... they could easily have hosted them in other similarly warm countries.

And what's with the big pole on top of the cockpits? All of the cars seem to have it, but the Ferrari looks particularly prominent. It's been a while since I've looked at testing photos, so is it just part of the testing regime- or are they trying to make them look like RC cars?!?!? ;)

It's in Europe and it's warmer than most other places.

Simple!

Shamelessly stolen from twitter:

Times after 4hrs:

1 Massa 1.13.088;

2 De la Rosa 1.13.247;

3 R'berg 1.13.543;

4 Paffett 1.14.018;

5 Rubens 1.14.449;

6 Kubica 1.15.298;

7 Buemi 1.19.279

Definitely looks as if STR have some work to do, a good showing for Massa, and will be interesting to see what Schumi can do this afternoon in the Merc.

Mercedes is tomorrow isn't it?

Fuck knows what Renault are doing, is that the old car in the new livery?

It is the new Renault but as someone correctly guessed, those are 2009 wings in the launch pic.

I like that colourway. Reminds me of old Jordan.

It's more Renault's colours than Jordan's, here's 1979.

It's all about data capture and transmission, you won't see them at race meetings.
