How can such a high profile, big money, sport be so cheap that it broadcasts in mere SD? Rubbish.

I think someone in here explained that FOM are ready to do it, but some of the older circuits still keep their TV broadcasting to themselves, and haven't upgraded.

Interesting, would like to see rossi in f1 even if its just for one season.

Rossi flying after F1 test

Reuters - Thu, 21 Jan 20:22:00 2010

MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi showed impressive pace in a Formula One car at the end of two days of testing with Ferrari in Barcelona.

The Italian, who had a few spins on Wednesday when the track was wet, completed more than 600km behind the wheel on Thursday at the Circuit de Catalunya and finished with a best time of one minute 21.900 seconds.

That compared with this year's fastest race lap of 1:22.762 set by Brazilian Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button's pole position time of 1:20.527.

The 30-year-old had the advantage of a 2008 car on slick tyres and light on fuel but Ferrari insiders were impressed by the Italian's ability to learn and improve his times consistently.

"It shows he has the talent to progress," commented one.

Ferrari have tried to recruit Rossi in the past and team boss Stefano Domenicali said last week he would check on the Italian's availability if they had the chance to race a third F1 car in the future.

Rossi, who has talked more of a future in rallying after MotoGP, said he would "have given anything for such a lap time" in his sixth test in a Formula One car.

Brazilian Felipe Massa will take over the car on Friday as he continues his recovery from the serious head injuries he suffered in Hungary last year. Formula One testing in current equipment is banned until February 1.

"As the car and the track were available I thought it would be helpful to go onto the track for a day to continue gaining confidence with the Formula One," Massa said.

are there any lap times for Massa, how did he compare to Rossi's times ?

Hmmmmm i can't find any times anywhere. maybe he was 10 seconds slower than Rossi. It does seem odd that they don't want to compare his times. the PR people obviously think their current driver isn't fast enough and are keeping quite :coffee:

where's the Crying Massa jpg then ?

I was just reading on the bbc website that the teams are aiming for sub 3 seconds to change the tyres. That's all sorts of awesome right there. They should award a point or trophy at the end of the year for the fastest tyre change.

You know, that's not a bad idea - extra team point awarded for stuff like this. And deducted for fucking up a pit stop.

US F1 have signed a guy I'm quite frankly astonished qualifies for a licence, presumably because they realised they weren't yet enough of a joke.

I noticed there was no Peter Windsor column in this months F1 Racing. I was a bit surprised he carried on writing while trying to set up a team.

And if you haven't thrown out last months copy re-read Alan Henry's column. I'm sure he is a very well respected journalist, but he was so far off the mark about Schumacher it was embarrasing.

On that reasoning Raikkonen would never have got his license for F1. :quote:

Kimi had just won Formula Renault in his first season.

Lopez won the eurocup version 7 years ago now and then proceeded to fail in 3 F3000/GP2 seasons and then have to go to Argentinian touring cars to get anywhere. Normally you don't get superlicences based on what you did the best part of a decade earlier.

In any case Kimi's record in Formula Renault far exceeds Lopez (a 7/10 win rate) and he had 3 F1 tests before he signed for Sauber, Lopez was given a try as a Renault dev driver and then they dropped him for not being good enough.

I thought that too, it's very strange that they published Rossi's lap times and yet have only said Massa's was "successful" with absolutely no lap times at all. Probably bodes well for Alonso being the number 1 driver.... oh well, until 2011 when Rossi comes in!

Rossi was running GP2 slicks whilst Massa was on demonstration tyres which are really hard. So any comparison wouldn't really tell us anything with the different set ups, plus looked like Massa was running a lower down force as well.

It's an awful magazine these days. A shadow of it's former self. I bought it from the very first issue, it was a great magazine. Now it looks almost as bad as it reads. Such a shame...

Bring back re-starts and drivers fighting over spare cars. I'll bet they still bring enough shit to a race to build another car anyway.

it used to brighten up a race watching them sprint back to the pits to jump into the spare - it should definitely come back.

I thought they were both on the GP2 tires. The point was made that Rossi handed tha car over after 2 days straight to Massa. It was the same car set up as i understood it.

But it's noticable they they don't even mention how close he was to times from 3 years ago. Rossis laps are campared to the Pole tiem and Rubions fastest lap. Massa, not a thing.

Ferrari normally like to blow their own trumpet loud and clear. All new drivers break the lap record at the test track afterall. Expect Alonso to have "stunning" run in the new car come Feb 1st.

According to Autosport he was on different tyres and you can see from the pictures he has lower down force. It makes sense to put Massa in a car heavy on fuel with low down force and hard tyres as it's a better simulation of this season.

I guess the difference is the intention of the tests, Rossi's was a reward for winning another world championship so it makes sense to big him up. For Massa it was probably a continuation of his return and just about getting some miles in without the pressure and scrutiny, which he'll get in a few weeks when the proper testing starts.

There's a rumour that USF1 will show their car tomorrow.
