Isn't this what NASCAR does? They have the most insane points system I've ever seen.

I'd say after autosport, the best news site is gpupdate.net by the way.

IIRC, Nascar give points all the way down the feild, starting at 185 for the winner, then 170, then, 165, and at some point lower down the gaps get smaller, but I can't remember which.

there's 5 bonus points for leading a single lap, and another 5 bonus points for leading the most laps. This means the minmum a winner is actuially awarded is 190, as to win the race the driver will have led at least one lap (the last one).

You get paid for turning up to a NASCAR race, and points if you take the start. As they don't stop anyone who want to from starting, they all get points.

But there are a bunch of "teams" that turn up just to get the money, then bugger off saturday evening after a few "qualifing" laps.

Common sense comes to the FIA finally, taken long enough to get it but an ex-driver will be a part of the stewards team now. Looks like some sensible changes, hopefully they'll lead to more consistent and understanding decisions being made. Now just to see how many races until we get an ex-Ferrari driver and cries of conspiracy.

The commissioner seems like a good idea as well and not just for F1. Looking like a promising start for Todt so far, not the Ferrari loving Mad Max Mk.2 you might have thought we would be getting. It's all looking quite positive at the moment, talks of how to make the show better, better use of the net etc. Hopefully it will continue and F1 can pick itself up from the mess and scandal of the last few years, not as if that hasn't been said over the last few years though.

Kobayashi better get a seat for next year or else I'll probably just be watching F1 out of the need to see Hamilton put Button in his place.

It's going to be Rally watching for me

Really hoping to get the cash together to go see the Rally Finland. B)

I'm glad he is out of F1, since he won the championship he's become complacent, pretty much most of his races in the past season were him not being competitive for most the race but then out of no where near the end of the race setting some blinding times as if to prove to himself that he still has it <_<

The livery on that car looks so clean, like something made in forza rather than the usual mishmash of sponsors seen on competition vehicles.

Great move for Heiki, not going to make a mark as a top driver so needs to find a new way. Couple of seasons learning from Trulli and we can replace the Trulli train with the Kova conga.

In fairness I don't think it's a bad move from Lotus' point of view. Two experienced and established drivers should be quite handy for a new team and must be good from a sponsorship position, first question isn't who? at least. Not very exciting from the fans point of view though, be much better if they had someone like Kobayashi.

Wonder if the lack of comment means sidewaysbob is currently on a flight to Malaysia to hunt down Gascoyne and Trulli to save us from another year of him, we can but hope.

Bugger, that's what you get for leaving Fry in charge of sponsorship and so much for a clean start for Mercedes away from all the McLaren scandals. I wonder if this will have any impact on the potential signing of Schumacher, as that's a seizable chunk of the budget especially as Mercedes where talking about running the team relatively cheaply.

Trulli.

in Lotus.

Colin chapman will be spinning in his grave.

And kovalimuniumnn too !

So then Mickey shoes is all but set to announce a return tot he fold. Personaly i think it's a mistake. There, i've said it. I dson't think he'll be fast enough and i think he has nothing left to prove. Why come back and risk his reputation as one of the best, when he hasn't raced competatively (apart from the ROC thing) in 3 years.

Especially in a Mercedes, which i think we can all admit, benifited from Honda pulling the plug on the 08 car to start building the 09 car. something they didn't do this year. They'll be in the same boat as everyone else and look how that turned out for them this year. Once everyone else was up to speed , Brawn struggled to get the results.

Mclaren, Redbull and Ferrari will be the teams to beat next year. Mercedes will be the best of the rest. so why would Mickey come back to that ? I think Brawn were just in the right place at the right moment and rode their luck to the title. 2 new driver, one of which hasn't driven a high downforce car in 3 years, the other has yet to really put a whole weekend together and wina race.

I think Mickeys making a mistake. I really do
