Prodrive Hyundai Grand Prix? With a Renault engine under the bonnet?

That's the thing that stinks about this story- it's being backed by a Korean car manufacturer? Why on earth would someone like Kia get into F1, especially when Richards is in charge of Aston Martin? Which one fits the glamour world of F1... Aston Martin or Kia? I might be wrong... but that bit just doesn't add up.

I could see a Korean company being a major sponsor in co-branding the car, but not a car company. Do Korean Air sponsor anyone these days? Ironically they did used to sponsor Benetton.... :eyebrows:

Bit surprised that it wasn't mentioned by now:

Toyota handed back the grid place for next year to the FIA today. I guess thats the ticket for Sauber F1 then...

Indeed, it's not official until they announce the next entry list but that's the best way out for all because if Sauber don't get it, Toyota have one fucker of a contract breaking bill.

and as I say that.

Then he's got the risk of having Aston Martin as a midfield team, is that really going to do anything for its image or the bank balance? Plus you've already got Aston Martin being successful in GT racing, which I think is a better fit for them anyway. On the other hand for someone like Kia or Hyundai I'd think just being on the grid would be a boost to their reputation and how people perceive them, not exactly an exciting prospect as a fan though.

How so?, bar a dirty great fuel tank and rubbish thin wheels has anything else about the cars changed, and most of which should have been working on a new one anyway....

But a lot of the teams don't have a chassis to work from, it's new.

Others are being taken over/changing hands etc. It'll effect development of cars massively. With (I think) the exception of Mercedes.

The front is going to be close (Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull, Brawn), but the field isn't going to be seperated by 1.5 seconds on the grid in the desert come March. I'm not expecting anything near the closeness of this years season.

Looks like Richards has some competition and they may be ahead of him. Really hope Renault do the right thing for the team and sell it to Richards, but money may talk and selling the team but still keeping your name on it is a bonus. Maybe Flavio will come to the rescue here, reminder to Renault that not being in full control isn't a great idea. I'm just not sure what investment funds get out of it, F1 isn't exactly a money earner and if you have got drivers to push surely a smaller investment in a smaller team would be a better proposition.
