Err, the team told him to stay out. They took the blame squarely after the race for the call, I remember the interview with Whitmarsh.

Remember too that it happened in his rookie year. Not sure many drivers of so little experience would go against their bosses orders so early in their career - especially with the events of Hungary in recent memory and with the added pressure of having a championship in the palm of your hand. Had that event happened to day - with the extra experience he now has I'm pretty sure he would have demanded to stop.

The comparison between Hamilton the rookie, and Alonso the double world champion at the time isn't a fair one.

At the time Hamilton said that he could see the white of the canvas in his mirrors.

If he was less of a racer I am sure that he would come in, whatever the team says.

It is his nature to be like this and do these things. He will always make mistakes because the racer instinct is so strong in him.

Look at his total stupidity at Monza this year.

Which is good news for us because it makes F1 so much more entertaining.

But it would chime with the FIA's desired "green" asperations wouldn't it ?

Would go against the cost cutting though of which engines sadly has been a big part, I'd also imagine Ferrari at least wouldn't be too happy with it.

I've not kept too up to date with the LMP cars and had a vague understanding that Audi would be pulling out, but could that change now with the proposed rule changes ruling out coupe prototypes from 2011?

VW also have Porsche and I had seen talk of some sort of takeover or link up with Cosworth so that could be another way they come in. But I would love it if VW came in and with Skoda, I'd give anything to be the one to tell Bernie. Get his hopes up of the marketing dream the likes of Audi or Porsche would be, then bang, it's a Skoda.

Interesting to see that now Brawn are all but guaranteed the constructors title this weekend that they've picked up 4 new sponsors.

Bnco de Brasil,

MAPFRE - Spanish Insurance apparently

TNT - energy drink, how does that work with Jens wearing Monster energy on his lid?

Itaipava - beer.

Going to look for pics now.

Technically it's more that Porsche have VW (rather unbelievably)

Wasn't quite sureI thought VW would be the controlling ones in the end, either way long term don't think it really makes sense to have both Porsche and Audi in LMP even if it is different classes, so hopefully something could happen on the F1 front.

Hamilton wasn't really your average rookie. He had been groomed for this since birth, no other new F1 driver in history was as well prepared. He started racing when he was still in nappies and had a complete racing career behind him before he ever got into an F1 car.

I don't see what's so different between him & every other F1 driver, they all started driving and racing at a young age, they've all worked their way up through various race series. He got taken on by McLaren at a young age and I'm sure we'll see more of that in the future but every F1 driver has spent their life racing.

Brawn nose with added yellow and apparently a sponsor, great spot that one.

I thought this was a great picture from the Ferrari press conference, kind of sums it up.

I know It's PlanetF1 but there's usually a picture thread started a few days before the race on the forum, usually has lots of really good pictures.

They merged with VW as the dominany party.

The Porsche top executives resigned, their jobs taken by VW appointees..

Porsche's last foray into F1 was a spectacular failure. Engines to Footwork that would grenade themselves in a heartbeat, even Mclaren didn't want them when they lost honda and were left scrabbling around for a unit.

I know they depend on sponsorship, but it's a shame - the Brawn looked so good without all that tat over it.

They look like local deals- one off's like the Canon deal. Just a few extra £££ to tide them over till next year and their mega new sponsorship deal.

They're not allowed to have a 'major' sponsor after a certain point in the season are they? I think it was discussed around the time Branson showed up.

Yep, your main title sponsor has to be declared by the 1st race of the season, only exception is if the team gets taken over mid season and even at that its up to the FIA.

You are allowed change your small time sponsors within reason and I think that the main sponser logo or design is allowed change through the year but not the name or who you are sponsored by

Holy Fuck, Is that Kimi........smiling

Fantastic start to the BBC online feed:

Well, there's a nice sight to kick off the weekend. Felipe Massa is in the paddock, and gives the camera a smile and thumbs up. Apparently, he's had some plastic surgery - and his breasts do look impressive. No, no, it was on his eye. Just on his eye.
