You'd better believe it- one thing that Alonso is not good at doing is sharing a team. I wonder how Massa feels about all of this? He was basically the no 1 driver this year (and if the contract between Ferrari and Alonso was signed last year, it explains why they preferred Massa this year) to back to being a secondary driver (just like behind Schumacher and Kimi in his first year).

Funnily I was speaking to one of my Italian co-workers today about it all (massive Ferrari fan) and he's really upset about Alonso moving to Ferrari. After a terrible year, he thinks it could destroy them!

I think that for the last 18 months or so the Ferrari team has been preferring Massa over Kimi.

One reason being Schumacher's influence within the team.

The other being Kimi's lack of politics.

I can't see Alonso getting on with Schumacher at Ferrari.

So the bias could stay Massa's way.

Massa and Alonso both like understeering cars, which gets rid of the problem they had with Kimi preferring oversteer.

In the run up to Suzuka I've been watching some of the old races on the BBC website.

This one from '94 was just far out bonkers...

Schumacher top of the board for Benetton-Ford with Hill closely chasing behind in the Williams Renault

Felt bad for Brundle, the race should have been stopped a few laps earlier.

Any predictions for Suzuka?

It's a track characterised by lots of fast corners (it's a difficult track in Forza), so I'd expect Red Bull to do well, but I think they're just too fragile. So, I'm going for Button - let's hope he can keep the heat.

Mind you, it wouldn't be surprising if he completely balls up quali, to keep the championship down to the wire.

Vettel to win, Toyotas/Force Indias to do well.

Have put money on Vettel, Kimi and the Toyotas.

I was thinking Red Bull too but the downforce levels are the same as Spa and they were no where at Spa. Maybe Force India for the podium possibly even pole. Might be worth a punt.

Webber is 9-1. Hmmm, tempting.

I want to go for Vettel but with the engine problems he's got and the similar downforce levels to spa. I don't know. Brawn will probably do well too.

Yeah so basically no idea I think is what I've just said there.

He is a total legend.

Cojones the size of mountains.

And so fast that sometimes just watching him makes you flinch.

He does not give a damn about the F1 circus, he just wants to drive.

One of the fastest, if not the fastest, F1 drivers ever.

If he was good at politics, like certain others, he would be a multiple WDC by now.

And he created one of the greatest moments in F1:

Just a pity it's been so long since he showed any of the above. In the McLaren days I used to like him, when he had some fighting spirit. He's not shown that or any real mega speed for a long time. Yes he won in Spa, but without the magic button he most certainly would not have.

Mclaren should be moving forward not back, taking him on is a mistake. The hamster will destroy him and that's a pity in a number of ways. FFS Massa (Massa!) of all people has made him look like a bit of a tugger over the past few seasons. If he's lost heart & interest he should just hang up his helmet so we remember him for how amazing he was in those clips you posted. Clips from 2005...

I remember watching Raikonnen during quali's at spa a while back, something had happened at Eau Rouge (I think it was someones engine went and covered the track in smoke), but Raikonnen kept his foot down and went through Eau Rouge full speed, completely blind. Mental, but bollocks the size of melons.

edit: found it:

And onboard:

He'll do the job that Kovalainen's not though. At the minute when McLaren have the fastest car they get Lewis winning and Kovalainen finishing 6th. When they have the 4th fastest car they get Hamilton winning or crashing in the attempt and Kovalainen coming 12th. With Kimi they'll be getting one-two's when they've got the fastest car, and on the 4th fastest car days he'll be finishing 4th and getting some points in the bag whilst Hamilton does his all or nothing act.

So which team is going to have the biggest war next year between its drivers?

Some of the driver pairings look ideal for some very serious rivalry.

Brawn;

Button

Rosberg

Mclaren;

Kimi

Hamilton

Ferrari;

Alonso

Massa

Red Bull;

Webber

Vettel

Renault;

Kubica

Kovalienen

Williams:

Barrichello

Hulkenburg

You'd have to put your money on Hamilton, Massa and Button out of their teams, especially with restricted testing, purely because they've had the time with their teams.

Alonso is with Ferrari for a fairly long stretch, he will get quicker!

Massa to beat Alonso? I'll happily take your money off you. :hug:

You've got say to say Ferrari. Massa is really dug in deep there and Alonso is very much the jealous type.

I really can't see Heiki going back to Renault though.

I think it's about as good as it gets for Renault though, a team about to go into steep decline. Flavs gone so at least the door is open for them to talk to whoever they want.

Welcome back race fans.

It’s a short hop and skip and the circus has decamped from Singapore to Japan and the truly awesome Suzuka.

After 2 years at the dull as dishwater Fuji raceway, were back to one of the last great drivers circuits left on the calendar. It’s fast, technical and pushes the driver to the limit. The Driver and car have to be as one round here. When the driver throws the car into corner, the 130R for example. The car has to follow. Because if it doesn’t, the next thing it will do is hit the wall. Hard.

So. The conventional wisdom would have the Redbulls 1 and 2 here. But I think they’re too fragile to race too hard for a win. So that would mean Brawn up front then ? maybe. But Button only really needs to come 4th or better to keep things ticking along. In fact if Barrichello doesn’t finish this race, all Button needs is 6 points and the race for the chase for the cup for the thing, is all his along with fine country houses, slick car and as many girls as his tongue can handle. …. Well you get my drift. He doesn’t need to go out and race to win. As long as Rubins isn’t getting more than 6 points, Button will cruise round.

McLaren should be up there, but they didn’t look too hot in Spa and Britain, circuits similar to Suzuka. They’ve had a lot of updates since then and would really like to beat Ferrari in the constructor’s championship. Ferrari meanwhile have stopped developing this year car and really suffered in Singapore. Japan should suit them more. But how committed will Kimi be now he’s off to McLaren. I think he’s still a racer at heart, but …….

I expect the Force India’s to be back in the hunt. Singapore was a bit of a wake up call after Spa and Monza’s good results. Suzuka should be more to their liking. If Toyota has a bad weekend, the Force India will be up there. Toyota is on home soil, kind off. So I imagine they’d like to remind Japan that they are still racing. But having lost an awesome amount of money in the recent economic downturn, they’re uming and aring about even taking part next year. Despite coming second last week, they don’t look like they want to be there at all right now.

Williams and Nakajime would like to have a good showing. He will as long as everyone else crashes. Rosberg should be a good top 10 here. It’s a full on drivers circuit this place, rewarding drivers like Rosberg.

Alonso, now having that Ferrari contract signed seal and delivered in his back pocket for next year, has no pressure to get results for Renault. But professional pride with have him haul that car into the top ten.

So I think it’s a tough call this one.

I love my motorsport, but I like my sleep more. One of the few races i don't tend to watch, even the re-run.

Lightweight :hug: I jest, I jest.

I love the old school, early races, I'm a bit sad they've moved the Aussie GP, it was exciting getting up dead early to see the opening race of the seaon.
