Does anyone else think that Fisi, Grosjean and Alguersuari prove that in-season testing needs to make a come-back? These guys are cack precisely because they haven't had a chance to try the cars out :-|

Sorry... but I completely disagree, there should still be a ban on mid season testing.

The fact that Renault and Torro Rosso decided to fire the original drivers, mid-season, isn't an excuse to get mid-season practise back in. They should have stuck with the original drivers, no matter on how shit they were, for the whole season and then made the decision. In a way, hopefully it means that teams will keep drivers for longer- and at least give them a whole season to prove themselves. If they brought back mid-season testing, a lot more than just 2 drivers would have been sacked!!!

Yeah, Massa's incident was a bit of a freak, but not that freakish. Drivers can easily be out for a few races and the fact that Ferrari decided to have such a shit test driver (probably because he was Italian than his driving capabilities), then they should be punished for it. Surely ol' Luca was putting in terrible times during testing- they should have known there could have been a problem.

Also, if they bring back mid-season testing it just means that the usual teams (e.g. McLaren and Ferrari) end up spending countless money to catch up. McLaren have managed that, without testing, but Ferrari.. well.. maybe not!

:eyebrows:

That's in the Puma shop in Carnaby St. Nice. Of course because it's supposed to be a Ferrari I did think about pulling it apart slightly, but I held back. :)

It's been done very well, it looks about as aerodynamic & pretty as the F60. Probably goes at a similar pace too

Here is why I think that the current crop of F1 drivers is the best yet.

1) Every driver in F1 now gets paid, lots. The law of supply and demand applies.

2) Kids start karting at about 6 months old. By the time they get into an F1 car they have more than a decade of racing experience.

3) Video games. The US fighter pilot school had to make their entrance exams massively more difficult. In the video game age everyone was passing.

4) More feeder series. Formula Renault, F2, F3, GP2. Talent rises to the top and can be seen.

5) Several of the teams have young driver programmes to nurture talent. Several of the current crop come from this.

6) Telemetry. Every thousandth of a second everything in the car is recorded. They can analyse exactly where every microsecond is lost. And how to fix the problem.

7) Simulators. The teams all have massively sophisticated driving simulators where the drivers practice on virtual versions of the real circuits for many hours.

:D Professionalism. Even the worst F1 team is now incredibly good. Every aspect is honed to perfection.

9) Fitness. These guys are now professional athletes. Every one has a personal trainer and a gymn.

10) Video. You can now examine, in detail how every driver takes every corner on every circuit every time.

Talking of Brundle, he seemed really distant and strange in the F1 Forum bit. I guess it was a combination of trying to eat ice cream off camera and not having his earpiece working!

Just watching it now. Brundle is ace and knows his stuff. I would like to hear a lot more from him and less from legard.

He is a legend, he's the reason I got back into F1 when he took over the lead commentary role from that idiotic Walker character he used to work with!

Have to be honest though, I prefer to listen to Davidson and Croft in qualifying at least (partly due to not having to listen to Leggard). They go into even more technical detail.

Croft and Davidson are excellent, FP1 has become one of the best parts of the weekend as it's just an hour and a half of them having a really insightful and informative chat about F1, with some nice background viewing. I think that whole team work better, Holly Samos is great and I really like Ted Kravitz now, I wasn't that keen on him at ITV. I guess it is a bit easier for them though, as the free practice is a bit more relaxed and the action on the track isn't hugely important.

I wasn't that bothered by Legard at the beginning, but after listening to Davidson and Croft I just don't think he and Brundle add much to the whole experience, I was quite surprised neither mentioned the fact that when Heidfeld was taken out that brought an end to his record run of 41 consecutive finishes. I wish they'd try Croft and Brundle together, I think that could be really good.

Yeah I am torn when it comes to the race commentary, I feel like I don't want to miss any Brundleisms but the Radio 5 lot are better overall.

Like you say would be good to hear Brundle and Croft together, although it seems to be tradition to pair a good guy with a tool, at least Walker had a funny voice and wobbly head.

Brundle does an amazing job of commentary, but he can't do it for the whole race, there's a lot of time when he isn't speaking so you do need someone who can waffle in with him. Or maybe put Brundle, Davidson and Jordan (!) in the commentary box.

And just to add, I think that Lanky Jake is doing a fantastic job with the presenting, and his blog makes for pretty good reading too.

Well if Davidson does get a drive in the Lotus (if it turns up) next year, that could mean Crofty could move to the TV bit and send the ledg' back to the radio bit.

but yeah, the 5-live comentry is so much better than the main tv feed. Because they have to describe everything for a Radio audiance, they will still 1. stop to listern to the drivers radio, even if they're in the middle of comentating. Legend and Brundle talked over several pit radio bits. and 2. The 5 live boys will still stop talking to listen to the cars as they driver round the circuit. During the practice sessions Davidson was pointing out the sound of the cars hitting the ground as they rode over the bumps.

they also sound like its a good laugh, unlike Leg'end who constantly tells us that Lewis is "pushing on" in the most bored sounding way possible.

I slightly disagree with you guys about Button. He hasn't been spectacular, but who has?

It's a funny old season because all the teams and drivers have been inconsistent. He drove exceptionally well in those early races, and he took full advantage of the right conditions to drive to his potential and win races. It's more of a level playing field now, because the other teams have improved and Brawn have had their problems, so each race has thrown up different results with different drivers and teams performing well from race to race.

He had a good car early on, but he was given the ideal conditions to win races and he delivered. You could argue that no other driver has been given a car capable of winning enough races to rack up enough points to challenge him, but that's the way it's gone this season. It's been a scrappy season with inconsistent driving and erratic car performance - so if Buttons wins it then he'll deserve it because he showed that consistency and talent early on to maximise the potential of the car he was given.

I'll probably get flamed for this by some of you guys that know more about F1 than me (this is my first season back into it since watching as a kid) but I really enjoyed watching Button perform well in those early races. I look back on that as a moment in the season where someone grabbed the bull by the horns and drove well over a number of races, in a season that has otherwise been scrappy.
