Edwards and DC really are fucking rubbish. If it wasn't for BBC being HD I'd be watching this on Sky via the Xbox.

I'm no fan of Edwards but DC does know what he's talking about and puts it across well. And I can forgive them for constantly getting Hamilton and Rosberg mixed up. They need to sort their helmets out.

No no no to Allen unless he stops his Murray impressions. It was painful. He was great as pitlane reporter before Kravitz, is a good writer, and ok on radio 5 where he has toned down, but he was miserable as main commentator for many years and don't want the risk of that again.

Alonso got it wrong, should have covered Vettel's pitstop immediately and left Massa out to hound Webber.

Fair play to Hamilton for getting points, well driven by the Nicos and Ricciardo.

Shame we didn't get to see more of the race from the thermal camera on Di Resta's car.

So, here's an interesting little snippet from the recent Autosport article on McLaren:

It later emerged that in 1998 team boss Jean Todt had negotiated a technical-regulations rules veto for Ferrari (something that continues to this day). Any technical development that did not meet with Ferrari's approval could in theory be refused by the FIA.

Not the most exciting of races again, only Ferrari cocking up the drafting in qualifying once again and Hamilton driving it old school to keep it interesting.

Actually I feel asleep at about the first third point and woke up again for the last third, so I'm not entirely sure what happened. I saw Hamilton go into the pits for the slow puncture, which didnt seem to be that bad as he missed the pit entry for three laps after someone forgot to replace the batteries in his radio before the start of the race. I feel asleep then as it was pretty much over as a spectacle for me, to wake up to find hes got all the way to the top ten ... hurrah. Then he stopped to change his tyres again and he was all the way back in nowheresville....booooo.

Then, sans radio he drove it like a proper racing driver with balls and vim and grit and determination and stuff, Vettel please take note. So yeah that was entertaining, whilst Vettel calmly went about his usual gig of driving away from the rest of the field. Apparently they had some sort of gearbox issue and a slightly wobbly tyre for a bit of the race. Didnt seem to make much difference to his pace though.

Oh well

Alonso tried, but the Ferrari just wasnt going to catch Vettel once he was ahead.

Vettel wins after a pretty easy pole (I think, I fell asleep for that too).beat Webber off the line and flat spotted the front right into turn one, the vibrations messed up his dyed blond hair a little bit. He then won by a country mile. Dull dull dull dull dull dullness.

Alonso gave it some beans, bit of a banzai move for second from Webber in the opening laps. Decided to ignore the team and stay out for aaages when he should have come in for his tyre stop. Would have still come second regardless. Ho and indeed hum

Webber gets on the podium for the first and last time in his F1 career. He didnt really do anything wrong, but he might have tried a bit harder to take second from Alonso. Maybe he was worried about being lynched by the Tifosi after the race. Anyway, I dont think hes particularly bothered now; hes off so Redbull wouldnt let him win and Seb is pretty much nailed on to the championship win so why risk an accident.

Massa, who everyone is expecting to get fired on Wednesday at the team meeting before they head off round the world, showed once again that when he gets threatened with the sack, he goes really well. To be fair the Mercs and Lotus cars had problems so he had a clear run, but its always nice to see him up there on merit.

Hulkenberg was fifth with a fine drive that didnt require too much actual racing, once again he benefited from the other top line cars not being there. Still he was third on the grid on merit and if that doesnt put him front and centre for the Ferrari seat, I have no idea what will. Kimi might be that little bit faster, but the Hulk will always keep trying however rubbish the car is.

Rosberg sixth had that better weekend hed been looking for. But look at Hamilton and what he got out of the car, Nico just sort of tooled round and didnt get in the way of Lewis as he went past. His engineer told him to use Hamilton to drag him up the field, but he failed to do that. I think he was ahead of his team mate by default, not because he deserved it.

Ricciardo seventh, yeah okay pretty good.

Grosjean eighth more of the same really.

Hamiltons ninth was the drive of the day in my book. AND the drivers these days have a pit wall telling them when to push, how theyre doing, where they can go faster, which bit of their car Webber knocked off etc. Lewis had to do the whole race with no one telling him how to do his job. He went out there a spanked it, not even a slowly deflating tyre put him off his stride. He was driving like they used to do it in the good old days, by the seat of his pants and a state of the art steering wheel dashboard. Next time youre on the motorway, passing a sign for a turn off to some backwater Hicksville area. Imagine youre doing 200 miles an hour, the car is vibrating all around you, and there is another driver in front of your weaving around to break the tow and stop you slipstreaming past (for the purposes of not being blamed for someone causing a multi car pileup on the M6 on Monday .. dont actually do this) But the sign is being changed each time you go past it. With messages about whos in front of you and when you have to stop and have a cup of coffee at the little chef. There is a reason they developed state of the art pit to car radio systems. Waving a board at a car travelling past at 200 mph is pretty much waving a hope he saw you.

So I was dead impressed with what Lewis did. That fast that he apologised to the team for not getting a better result makes me love him even more. That is a proper racing driver, one with passion and heart.

Oh yeah and he got the fastest lap, at the end of the race. See even at the end he was still trying!

Button, tenth and still dull. Actually its been highly amusing watching him tell anyone that will listen and anyone that doesnt care than he loves McLaren so much and how he desperately wants to stay at McLaren and he wants to drive a McLaren Honda so much and he really admires McLaren and thinks they are really, really ace and he thinks its his perfect team ... and dear lord please dont fire my sorry ass McLaren.

Max was last, i think we can kiss goodbye to Van Der Garde for last place now, hes doing alright and Caterham have invested a bit of money in the car at last. The Marussia boys are going to be scrapping it out for the last spot now ... and that means its Max all the way. So you should all get a least five points a race now ....

Charles pulls ahead this week but Duane is catching up fast with another win this week.

I completely forgot that Caterham existed today until there was a moment where two McLarens and another car lapped one of them through the chicane.

Also, I seem to do better on this predictathon when I don't actually make any predictions...

Where next for Massa then?

Caterham me thinks. Let that career bleed out.

On other moves, if Mclaren have any smarts they'll PAY Sauber to take Perez back (they need the cash after all) so they can get Hulk in. Perez was a gamble (a good looking one at the time, one I was in favour of) that hasn't paid off. Better to man up and admit it rather than waste another season with him.

Or if your going to have Slim's business plastered over the car where Vodafone currently is, then eject JB and get Hulk in and admit your now the highest profile team with a pay driver. JB's waaaay past his best now. He could hang up the helmet or slide into Kimi's seat.

Hulk will probably now end up in Kimi's seat. 1 year deal, then replace a pissed off Alonso when the (now inevitable) messy divorce finally happens.

Funny you should post that. I was in the middle of typing the very same.

JB is on his way out. In the list of top line drivers he'd be at the back end of the list of top 10 drivers on the grid. Next year he might not make that list at all.

If Slim's money is going to replace Voda wonga then you need to keep Perez, who Alonso would comfortably dominate. No Lewis/other top line driver, no status problems = happy Fernando. Also he would bring back the big bucks from Santander (who are already a partner, if not a title one)

With JB not signed up yet it's not inconceivable (if an outside bet) it could happen next year. Alonso could get fired or quit before the season is out. Will Luca let him have another outburst?

With Kimi confirmed I'd expect all the other seats to fall into place pretty quickly.

I think the Kimi move is a mistake. I've really been impressed with the Hulk and how he's got the best out of every car he's driven. I can't see McLaren kicking Perez out, they're relying on his money to pay for the development between Merc going and Honda turnign up. Next year is just going to be holding pattern for them, so there's no reason to get rid of button just yet. Give Perez another year and see how he goes, after that, we'll see.they might as well stick with Button who can help develope the package.

Actually i wouldn't be too suprised is Alonso leaves Ferrari for Lotus and Massa stays, there's been a rumour floating around for some time now that fernando was looking to go back to his old team.

The only thing making me thing Alonso won't go for Lotus is that, if Kimi goes, it's probably because he doesn't think the team have a financial future good enough to maintain a title challenge. Alonso's aware that the clock is ticking if he wants more than his two titles and he needs somewhere that's going to offer him wins quick; if not Ferrari and Red Bull, that leaves Merc who are sorted for next season and McLaren I think.

Wouldn't be surprised if Hulk or Button end up being shuffled to Lotus.

Ah, but time seems to have changed Kimi in a way. He seems (on track at least) to be far more motivated and 'complete' than he was before he left F1.

All of this shuffling is being caused by other drivers looking at Vettel and realising that, given his age and the fact Adrian Newey seems to be staying put, he could be king of the hill for a long, long time. Vettel is now as old as Schumacher was when he won his second title in 1995, and Schuey got another 14 seasons out of his career after that.

Kimi and Alonso aren't getting any younger, so they're very much in a situation where they can't afford to sit and wait for a team to come good. If they can negotiate themselves into something that seems a better prospect, they will make sure they get it done.

I can't help thinking if the soft tyres on Hamilton would have lasted another 12 laps? Did he really need to come for the 2nd pit stop?

Apart from the Lewis/Kimi overtakes it was a dull race up front.

Yeah, they were beginning to deg quite badly. The options were a bit odd at the weekend as for about 90% of their life they were significantly quicker than the Primes (hence why Lewis was on a tear for most of the latter part of the Grand Prix) and then suddenly they'd start being slower, rather than gradually tailing off.
