As I understand it, retiring from a race because of a faulty engine/gearbox means you don't get a penalty for changing it. Given that their Garage was on fire, I can't see them giving out a penalty for something beyond their control. Choosing to change a gearbox or engine between races is a decision you take. Changing it wouldn't be a decision they make, they will surely have to change it. For the sake of safety it would need to be changed anyway.

You're right, fire or no fire they were allowed to change them.

That said, you can always change an engine for free can't you? You just only have 8 for the season.

Dear Red Bull.

THIS is how you party.

Love and Hugs

Williams Grand Prix Engineering.

I'd like to think they started it deliberately, so they can say "Sorry, there's not enough fuel left to provide a sample. P.S. Mclaren, THAT is force majeure".

What a great day for F1. The return of a legendary team back to the top, Maldanaldo maiden victory, amazing racing right through the field AND all the way to the end - the last 15 laps I was shitting myself, no way did I think the Williams would keep it together for that long on older tyres with Alonso already right up his backside... but the icing on the cake - denying Alonso a win for the Spanish crowd. So sweet :) Kobs 5th too.

And I fucking love this season. Tracks that have been boring in previous years (Bahrain and Spain) have been compelling to watch throughout.... this tyre strategy management has led to slowish starts to the race re:excitement, but everything always comes together near the end - in the past 3 races we have seen this. And that's before mentioning the time differences between the top 4 and the midfield - none. Sauber, Williams and Renault evenly matched if not better on pace with the leaders. It is magic.

And what was up with that pit radio for Pastor? GOOD JOB? FUCKING EPIC JOB!

Yep, regardless of anything else, Maldonado drove a race that I suspect none of us would have given him the credit to expect from him at the end of last season.

If he does nothing else in F1, today he was peerless.

OMG watching the F1 forum now, McLaren physio Aki touching up Eddie's ankles (he tripped over a wire to get an interview with Frank) in the centre of the paddock... all the cameras taking pictures :hat:

Your move Sky!

edit: and now they're wheeling him on a trolley
