What a thoroughly enjoyable race!

Without wanting to labour the point, Sauber aren't the kind of team to pander to an engine supplier.

Except for the several occasions they've done so before? To the very same engine supplier? Including voting in step with them on multiple issues and having their drivers deliberately block certain cars in races, most notably the 1997 European Grand Prix? (as Kiro points out). Point is they're exactly the kind of team to do this because it's been proven that they've ALREADY DONE THIS.

Last week everyone was calling Maldanado a chump for throwing away much less points pushing hard trying to get past Alsono, yet now it seems inconceivable to some that a team would just want to settle for second.

Vettel really showed a lack of class after the race when talking about his puncture and Karthikeyan, I'm all for drivers having a personality and flipping someone the bird out on track while the adrenaline is pumping but compare Button's post race interview to Vettel's and it says a lot.

Compare it to Schumacher also. He came over as a very sore loser.

What a fantastic race though. So much to talk about. :)

The Hispania's are ridiculously dangerous imo, when Button hit Karthekayan he had no where to go because that HRT had pretty much stopped.

Button admitted that was his fault, there was enough space for him to undercut the HRT & looking at the Vettel incident, the HRT car does seem to come over a bit but likve overtaking on the motorway, Vettel should have continued driving straight & used his mirrors :)

Anyhow I just love it when it rains because it always mixes up the field & makes for a great race packed full with incidents

Great race. How long has Massa got then? Why is he still in the team anyway?

But they were dream conditions at the start. amazing. Good to see Perez do so well, bright future there me thinks.

That 2009 accident bought a lot of sympathy, Enzo's Ferrari would have kicked him out at the end of 2010. Tops.

Having watched the race again (was on when I was trying to go to sleep!), they really need to sort this rain/safety car thing out. The track was dry enough to resume racing at least five minutes before they took off under the safety car, and then they trailed around behind it for ages!

Managed to avoid spoilers all day yesterday and watched it in the evening. Really enjoyed it, what a great race. Perez taking massive chunks out of Alonso was brilliant to watch. Such a shame he didn't do it in the end, but what a fantastic drive. That's when F1 is at it's best for me.. when someone surprises you by putting a car where it has no right to be. However that car is working it's tyres obviously helped.. but Kobayashi, a great driver, was struggling about 1-2 seconds off Perez's pace for most of the race. Fantastic stuff. Get him in a team who want to win races and let's see what he can do.

Senna's drive was also fantastic, I think the jury is still out on him a little, but I've more confidence of him bringing in points than Maldonado at the moment.. even though Maldonado is pretty exciting to watch in that Williams, when he's keeping it on the track...

Great start to the year though. We really have no idea what's going to happen still. If I were Lewis I wouldn't be too disappointed.. things haven't gone his way yet, and he's practically leading the championship (at least out of the guys who will probably be up there towards the end of the season). The midfield is really interesting, there's almost no driver I don't want to do well. And we're yet to see just what Kimi or Grosjean can do in that Lotus with a touch of luck... and what's going on with Rosberg? Like Brundle said, there's a story practically all the way down the grid...

Edit: Oh, finally, sad to see Alan Parr's resigned this morning... just when things were starting to work out for the Williams guys... hope they can keep the momentum up without him...

2nd edit: Oh, finally (!), was really nice to see Matin Whitmarsh and Hamilton specifically pick out Perez's drive in their interviews... great to see they could appreciate the fan's side of the race despite things not totally going their way...

I wasn't expecing Parr to get fired, thats a bit of a turn up for the books.

I imagine he was the one pulling for 2 paying drivers and now they have a quality car, they don't have quality drivers. Senna and Pasta are good second division lads but they're not team leaders and front of grid drivers.

The belief was that this was a consolidation year for Williams before he sold the company to the highest bidder at the end of the season. Now they might be going for a management buy out.

Interesting times.

The way the Beeb are reporting it he resigned rather than got fired. To "seek a better balance in his life".. sounds like it wasn't for F1 reasons maybe...

I think it's too early to be writing off the drivers. Maldonado especially is showing signs of being very fast, and Senna went from last to 6th yesterday, what more do you want? Last to 1st? Though obviously we don't really know just how good that car is right now...

I think that finally getting a decent engine in it has made a huge difference. The drivers are doing a reasonable job under the circumstances, and Bruno is clearly capable. I don't see it as Par being fired. More a mutual goodbye.

No-one senior enough in that sort of organisation ever gets fired (as far as the public are concerned). They just get told they're resigning. still, the fact he's still in the office for a week would seem to say that he isn;t being sacked and that he;s not going to another F1 team (because if he was, he'd already be out the door)

I think both williams drivers have got speed. yes, they bring money, but Maldonado last week and Senna this week both showed they've got the pace to be in the sport on merit. I don;t know, for certain, that Rubens would have beeen getting more out of that car in the last two weekends.

As for Alonso and Ferrari - it was clear from the post-race interview that Fernando knows that the car's still very poor and yesterday's result was a classic case of rain neutralising car differences. It does at least seem to point to the Ferrari's problem being Aerodynamic instead of mechanical. Ferrari are still making paternal-type noises about supporting Massa, but seriously, he has to go soon. I still think he should move to sportscars - I think he'll be a lot happier with a roof over his head.

I don;t think Perez threw the race - mostly for the reason of- if you were going to have a convienient mistake, you wouldn't have it there at a fast corner like that. You'd just back off all round the track (then claim your tyres had gone) or at one of the slower corners. It looked, to me, like a genuine error of just trying too hard (at a point on the circuit where you do need to push hard in order to get a good run onto the next straight so you get the DRS activation at the hairpin).

Vettel does seem a little rattled, doesn't he?

Rumours behind the scenes that Bernie invited Frank & Adam to London to talk over the new Conchord agreement. I believe it didn't go well & Bernie withdrew whatever was on the table & game it to Force India. No idea if it's true or not or if it's related to Parr's departure.

Ref vettel, I still maintain that it's the driver in the faster car that should be going out of his way to not have an accident with the car ahead. It's also not the first time he's made such an error, just ask Webber. Acting like a fucking baby about it is doing him no favours at all.

Regarding Williams, the engine supposedly has played a massive part in it... but they've also spent all winter doing really heavy fuel runs to optimise the car for looking after its tyres. Seems to have worked, and I am really pleased :). Plus, there're rumours that Adam Parr's family life has been a bit strained by all the constant travelling, so if that's the case I guess he's quit to try and regain some normality there.

As for what's going on with Rosberg... there's a few hundred people at Brackley who probably want to know too. Really worrying thing is that yesterday's tyre wear issues weren't the same as the ones he had in Melbourne. He managed to fight back past Jenson before the end of the race which was slightly more promising, but as for what the car was doing to the inters... no one knows, yet!

Yeah really worrying for Merc. I guess everyone thought they knew what the problem was after last weekend and now they've realised they don't have a clue and are back to square 1. It seems in general that the teams that have spent time understanding the tyres and getting the most out of them, or keeping them at the optimal temperature, have had a much better start to the season. Even McLaren seem to be struggling in that department, but probably getting by due to the fact that the rest of their car is awesome. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out after a few more GP weekends when everybody's had more time to do longer runs and figure out what the hell is going on...

I think all the teams will be dying for a dry race in China. Aus was the 1st race so they are still getting information & learning how to set the car up. The dry testing in KL would have been very benificial, but then the race was wet so again it would have been the teams 1st time setting the cars up for wet conditions. Some (Ferrari, Sauber) look like they got it right & others (Mclaren, Mercedes) looked like they didn't.

It's still an open field i think personally. I'm glad Lewis is keeping his nose clean & consistently getting points on the board. I'm hoping he'll unleash the Lewis we all know & mostly love soon. It is a shame with so much of the win is based on looking after tyres, i want to see these guys on the limit not holding back. Double edged sword i know.

As for Vettel.
