Dangerous, you can say that about all the rules. You'd immediately see people cheating to get the driver's championship because that's the only one anyone REALLY cares about.

It would also mean the Caterham, HRT, Marussia battle would be entirely decided on number of gearboxes used.

Maybe for the big teams with bottomless money pits, but a lot (maybe all?) of the prize money to the teams is awarded based on constructors points, which makes a huge difference to most of them. I remember one team boss (maybe Frank Williams) saying a couple of years back that a car breaking down (or something) near the end of the final race had cost them one place in the championship, and about £25 million of additional prize money.
