Did anyone else use the excellent (and free) official F1 iOS app last year? Bernie has now decided to charge £19.99 for this seasons version. Fucks sake.

Yeah, found that out this morning :@ certainly not worth paying that much when I only used it to keep an eye on what was happening during practice sessions whilst at work, and as a convenient way of checking results/standings.

I've used the £20 version for a few years and actually think its pretty good. This year it's im loving th following new features:

- added tire information which is fun in practice but will be great in race

- full info on each drivers best sector times so far so you can compare their current to it

- speed trap info

- clicking a driver transforms the display to show gaps relative to them as well as sector times. That will be great in a race to see how strategies are comparing

I wish it cost a little less but it's a slick app.

I've used the £20 app for the past 3 years this included & it has got better & better, but of you have access to the new sky iPad app it's not worth it. If you don't it is IMHO.

I guess most of the info is there (I didn't see tyre info) but my main problem with the app is that it's not very interative or as fast because they're using video feed for everything. Plus the app on my iPad is a good 20-30seconds behind live sky tv.

There won't be ads in qualifying or the race, only in practice so can't complain. Wish sky would stick with the main feed rather than cutting away to pre recorded stuff but it only affected the first 20 mins and I doubt they'll do it in qualifying

The news of a worried Redbull due to lacking straight line speed is interesting. See how that pans out.

I don't know if there's more detail or if you're being specific to today, but isn't that the Red Bull way? Even though I largely stepped back from F1 (the races, anyway*! ), I've long had the impression that it was almost a philosophy with Red Bull - or at least, that's where the cars had been 'lacking' each year.

If I've not got my weekends mixed-up, was it last year that it changed to some extent at Monza, with claims that the two cars were configured differently from one another (and Webber's KERS problems)? I have felt such talk was overblown at times anyway - F1 loves a gossip! - and if looking purely at straight-line speed, the same point could sometimes be aimed at McLaren and other top-tier teams that aren't chancing it more in terms of set-up. Perhaps the former teams look at the overall lap more and achieving a more controllable car rather than building in a headlining top speed and edginess?

As a slight aside, would Ferrari's history lean towards top-speed settings at Monza?

[*After a few decades where I had no interest despite being a mad cyclist, Superbikes and MotoGP finally won me over in the late Nineties.]

Word on the street is Red Bull are struggling a bit & are certainly not in the dominant position they were last year. This is not to say that they won't be close to the front because i think they will.

All that said i would never discount them & this could be a massive troll face. We'll only really know in Q3 in a dry session TBH.

As i mentioned above i'm thinking it's

Mclaren

Red Bull

Mercedes (No 1 or 2 in quali though?)

Ferrari

Force India

Lotus

Williams

Sauber

Caterham

Marussa

HRT

Currently watching the P2 replay on the Xbox (thanks to my boss giving me his Sky login) and I'm surprised at just how good the quality is. Obviously not as good as the BBC HD feed is, but better than I remember SD ever being.

I'm surprised the Red Bulls weren't a little higher considering the weather conditions to be honest (which obviously also played in to Jensons hands but its on Practice and we have no idea what teams are actually doing in these sessions).

As for the pic of the underside of Massa's car, I don't think Ferrari will be too bothered, I can't see anything "different" under there (admittedly I'm not an F1 designer/engineer, but there you go :) )

So where can we see the races if we don't have Sky or an iPad? I'm willing to pay a couple of quid for good streams. I just want to see every race.

I use sopcast & find a feed on wiziwig

I think the Ferrari is up there because it's Alonso ragging the arse off it. It looks a right handful in a straight line let alone a corner.

Either the Redbulls are massively sandbagging or they do have an issue with handling. Webber was doing alright out there, Vettel didn't look happy at all. There aren't too many teams that have put three world championships together and i'm not convinced that RB will do it on the evidence so far
