The Formula 1 Thread

Surely if Merc have made the DRS super effective it'll be a massive overtaking bonus.

not really - stalling out the front wing doesn;t actually have much, if any straight line speed benefit because all that air hits the car anyway, just a different part. All this merc system does is make the car less oversteery with the DRS open, which won't be an issue in the race as you only deploy it in straights.

Ah right! Brundle's latest Tweet hints that it'll mean they can open the DRS for longer, I guess that's because they can leave it open in shallower corners.

Cunning device on Mercedes rear wing (likely copied by others) should make their DRS system, available for 56% of qualy lap, very effective

Neg away, but the reality is spoilers will be everywhere, twitter, facebook, news sites once the race is run. When i've missed a race live i go on media blackout including this thread & every other F1 forum to avoid ruining the race. Unfortunately i don't see another way to do it without a separate or the non live watchers avoid it.

Say for example Aus last year, some people would have done the red eye & watched it live, most might have watched the re-run, but they'd still avoid this thread i would assume unless they want to know the result.

I'm not trying to be a dick it's just reality. :(

I have to say like all other TV threads i'd say once it's gone live it's fair game & you've got to assume spoilers will be in the thread. If you don't wanna know the result stay out of it. Twitter/news feeds etc aren't gonna wait for the BBC & neither should this thread IMHO.

I'd maybe suggest a BBC F1 thread for people who are watching it "live"

Absolutely. Half the fun is posting in here as the race goes on. If your not watching it live, don't come in here till you've watched it I'd say. I do think a 'BBC delayed F1' thread is a good idea. As long as no trolls decide to wreck it.

I agree and its what I've always done when I've missed a race, likewise with any games I'm interested in playing that are out that I haven't got yet. I'll avoid that thread till I've watched the race/played the game for myself.

yeah i'd think a delayed BBC F1 thread is the perfect way to allow the people who don't have sky to still have the proper banter (which is half the fun for me) At least it will only be needed for 10 of the races. The rest we can all watch live together in perfect harmony :)

Yeah I don't see why its any different to the football thread. If you can't watch live on Sky, and you're waiting for Match of the Day to come on the BBC, you don't go into the football thread. Unless you're an idiot.

I can't believe that when I get home from work tonight, I'll be sat eating my tea watching FP1!!!!

The times are pretty good 1930 FP1, 2330 FP2, then 2130 FP3 and 0000 Quali/Race

Just done my Fantasy team:

Vettel, Button and Kimi.

I was going to try out for the fixed team this year, but then realised that my team only came to 40mil so the extra 5mil wasn't needed.

I'm another who went for the Vettel, Kimi, ??? combination, seems pretty popular so guess lots of the competition will come down to the third driver, so come on Alonso. Really is hard not to choose Kimi looks like such good value, just have to hope Renault don't fade away again this season.

I went for Vettel and Button last year, although i didn't do too well as I changed my team round a few times during the moments when I shouldn't have and managed to score almost no points during the rounds where I could if I had just left things the way they were.

FYI the sky sports iPad app has just gone live...

http://itunes.apple....d477140057?mt=8

If I'm reading this right then, does that mean I can watch the races on Sky for only £4.99 per month via this app?

EDIT: I clearly didn't read it right: "• Sky Sports News is the only live channel this subscription will give you access to using the app."

Who would pay £4.99 a month to access Sky Sports News!?

If you have the F1 channel all the app stuff is free. Or it's been working like that for me with my sky go login, if it isn't free i ain't buying it. That's for sure!
