Indy/NASCAR coverage has been on Sky for years, has been really good and has included technical details and behind the scenes documentaries... So why are people worried that they can't keep doing the same? If anything it's the BBC that are taking a step backwards for the sport.

They're pretty niche, though.

What other sport explains the rules to the views each week. Imagine Football focus startign each show with a "rule of the week" feature where the offside rule or 'the long game' are explained with flashy graphics and Linaker donning a pair of boots and running onto the pitch.

How about before the six nations the presenting team demonstrating how a scrum works with the French pack "and then the odd shaped ball is put into the 'scrum', like this"

F1 for some reason has to constantly explain to people the rules, the teams, the tires, the start etc etc. I'm just wish Sky would assume the people watching know what a stearing wheel is and why they have all of those buttons on it.

To be fair, the rules of Football and rugby are fairly static. With the odd tweak here and there very occasionally.

F1 on the other hand has a complete overhaul of the rules every season, and sometimes, mid-season.

... depending on who's winning.

Interesting interview with Brundle in the current F1 Racing Magazine. Basically he says Sky's coverage is going to be very well funded and will be able to do much more than the BBC could.

He also hints that he was critical of some of the BBC's coverage, suggesting that it was a touch too jokey with a reference to Eddie's shirts. He also says he's not spoken to Jake to Eddie since he moved to Sky although he still arranges his travel plans and hotel bookings with the Chin so that they can travel together.

Looks like he will be back to being the no. 2 commentator this year which he says he prefers. Sky will be broadcasting around 13 hours of specific race coverage per weekend. It didn't mention if this included practice sessions. Also thinks the technology Sky have at their disposal will really be the thing that distinguish them from the BBC - mentions that you can choose from 8 camera angles as opposed to the couple that BBC offered.

Good news: Barcelona will probably be only having one race every two years from 2013.

Bad news: In between, Valencia will be hosting the Spanish Grand Prix (as in the street circuit, not the Moto GP/F1 test circuit).

i wouldn't even be too sure Valencia could continue after this year. The region is broke, there's ongoing protests as they can barely keep schools open, and cuts to essential services everywhere, and a big corruption scandal involving the party that support the Grand Prix.

Make the most of the fish market this year.

Also why are they persisting with the stupid chicane on the second to last corner at Catalunya. The old faster corner still exists, and the change's aim of bunching the cars together on the long straight never worked, and removed a challenging high speed corner that was great to watch and play on games. It wasn't high speed enough to be a safety risk either.

I though FOM did all the cameras, the TV companies just pay for the feeds ? unless Sky are saing they'll be having more in car stuff, which again is an FOM stream.

I guess it just means more in car stuff although the interview wasn't high on specifics.

And they're always making/changing/clarifying rules in season too. A few years back it seemed to be happening almost every race, when Hamilton developed a real talent for making moves which fell into a grey area the rules didn't quite cover (and it always seemed to be retrospectively decided he was in the wrong, but we've argued about all those points at length in the past ;)).

The Sidewaysbob 2012

Formula 1

Predict-a-thon

All you have to do is:

Pick the top 10 drivers.

Pick the driver on pole.

Pick the driver with the fastest lap.

and finally, just who is the worst driver?

Pick the last classified driver each race

If you have even a passing interest in Formula one racing and think you know the difference between a Pasta Maldonado and a Webber Carburettor than this is definitely for you.

This is all free, just for fun and a bit of a laugh

The season starts in 7days time so hurry and join up today.

Practice Sessions are definitely being shown live on Sky.

Looking forward to tonights opening programme at 8pm!

Brundle complained that the coverage was a touch jokey? How many shit jokes has he made while commentating, not to mention his - at times - light hearted grid walks. I like Brundle, but he sounds like a right miserable cunt.

Pretty sure its free as long as you have HD regardless of what package you have?

Yeah that's right. I've shifted my package around, as it were. If you've been with Sky for over a year you can call them up and say you are not happy with the cost, they work out a way to reduce it. Meant that my bill went from £45 to £35 while adding the HD channels. Was pleased with that, means I get the Sky broadband/line rental for free.
