If it's like the Xbox player then live sports will be set to 'auto' quality, which means it'll try to find the best for your net. It can be a bit annoying that it constantly changes on the fly, watching the footy on it would go from a crisp sub-HD setting to something that looks like a realplayer video over 56k. Best thing I can suggest is get on the stream in advance and try not to put any other demands on your net connection.

What's your experience like with SkyGo through the Xbox? Better through a laptop? I was planning on running it through my laptop and connecting that to my TV, but if the Xbox player is good, then I don't need to bother.

Also, do you have to 'authorise' seperate devices? Ideally I'd like to use it on my xbox, laptop and iphone or ipad if i'm out & about.

I would pay a reasonable sum for a decent stream (I guess a fiver a race/£100 a season being about the max). On that note; do people reckon it will actually be possible to get a decent live stream next year? I've watched thR odd football match online and the quality is usually pretty rubbish; blocky as hell and constantly stuttering. Anyone ever manage to get a decent picture?

You can only have 2 authorised devices at any one time, and there's a limit as to how often you can change them (once a month, I think).

This weekend I was round a friends house who has a house mate who's Austrian and he was watching sports on some free to air Austrian satellite channel and he says they will be broadcasting all f1 races free in hd and all you need is the satellite receiver and dish! I've just looked online and you can get hd satellite receivers and dish for under £100 :sherlock:

If I do this and listen to bbc radio as audio then I reckon it will be well worth it and I'll be quids in as there's no way I'm paying £35 a month for f1 on sky.

Here in the Netherlands you can watch the races live, in HD, on RTL7 (standard package channel, no need to pay extra). Thing is though, there's short commercials during races. And the coverage, although rather good, isn't as elaborate or entertaining as the BBC's.

It's from some promo video redbull did.

As a side note, I know DC is a commentator but surely the bbc is meant to be impartial and not give free advertising to companies? The bbc seem to focus on McLaren and Redbull more than other teams.

edit: posted wrong video

It's pretty much the same, I've used both the set ups you mentioned and the Xbox is just easier.

Since they rebranded Sky Player to SkyGo, you can only have it on two machines. So I guess it's down to which you use more, Xbox or laptop.

Isn't RB the main sponsor for the Austin GP? So I guess that's not something with the BBC - just RB promoting the race surely. Especially the video with Tom Cruise in the RB

To be fair to the BBC, it's not that they set out to use those 2 teams a lot but they are restricted to where they can get access, and it's a lot easier to work with british based teams. McLaren and Red Bull are fairly open to the BBC, in britain and are two of the top three teams. It's not excessive.

And presumably have more money to spend on wacky stunts than a lot of the other teams, and more willIngness to do so than the other rich guys (Ferrari and Mercedes have more of a serious corporate image they wish to preserve). I guess the BBC just go and film anything "newsworthy" they're invited to.

People who know a lot more about F1 than me: I need some guidance please!

I'm looking to book a trip to Japan later this year and as I am there I'll hopefully go to watch the grand prix. The problem is I don't really know which ticket to get... anyone able to help me out deciding?

Prices are listed here: http://www.bookf1.co...pan/tickets.htm

Thanks :)

Edit: Obviously the best are going to be the most expensive but i'm looking for a good price / experience middle point.

Frankly though (although I've not been to Suzuka) I'm not sure I see a bad view in that entire list. O would perhaps be the least interesting on the back straight but even then you can probably see both sides of the crossover. which is unique in F1.

D1 - D3 would be marvellous places to watch the cars - bit like Maggots/Becketts at Silverstone in that it's a high-speed change of direction kind of job.

But yeah, as Dudley says, you can't really go wrong at Suzuka. Amazing circuit and (according to a chum who went a few years ago) a brilliant atmosphere. Enjoy :)
