Anatomie d’un Depart Is A Silent Movie About A Turbo-Era F1 Race

At the 1985 Monaco Grand Prix, the French oil company Elf sponsored a crew to film the drivers and the teams as they readied themselves for the race. The result was Anatomie d’un Depart (“Anatomy of the Start”), ten mostly silent minutes set to a loopy Serge Franklin score, interspersed with the occasional squeak of a racing glove on a visor and some burbly turbos.

Among the shoelaces, hand-labeled tires, wicked ’80s mustaches, sponsor decals and tech crews in very short shorts, there’s 25-year-old Ayrton Senna, dressed in black and gold, driving his fourth race for Lotus. You can guess who started on pole.

Really starting to get excited about the new season now. Especially as I've taken the plunge and bought tickets for both me and the better half to to Silverstone on the Saturday, having never been to a F1 race (been to see BTCC at Snetterton once before.) I didn't fancy paying out nearly as much again for a Sunday ticket (maybe next time if we really enjoy it), so hopefully it should still be good.

As i've never been before, where would be a good place to watch the action from? We don't have any access to the grandstands, so it'll be standing areas only for us. What is there good to do whilst there? What is the park and ride service like? Is it good to get there early? Anything you really, REALLY don't want to forget to take with you? And what is the selection of over-priced merchandise like?

i suppose it is a bit early to ask, but at least planning it distracts me from waiting for the season to start :)

Make sure your at the gates at 6am latest on race day, and sprint to your spot if you want a decent view. If you going on Saturday for qually, scope out where you want to watch the race from, and plan how to get there quick when the gates open on Sunday.

If your going later, bring a kitchen step or a box to stand on. It'll turn a frustrating view (and day) into a great one :)

It won't have the commentary though will it? I can get US and Canadian coverage, but that means Speed commentary and adbreaks or whatever feed TSN decide to pick up; traditionally that's been BBC, but not sure what they'll do this year. Both have terrible post/pre show coverage though, which is just as important as the race to me.

Unblock-us states that go.sky.com might work, so I'm hoping that I'll be able to get F1 from Sky using my parents account.

Sky are supposed to be launching a Netflix/Lovefilm style service and I believe I heard it was Spring in whatever thread it was mentioned in. Perhaps you will be able to get F1 through that (I think sports are supposed to be part of it), but it probably won't launch in time for the start of the season at this rate.

Could always listen to bbc 5 live at the same time? Might be a bit out of sync though I spose...

Yeah should be able to do this on your xBox I think unless your parents have registered their account with another device...

Or just go here and get the F1 channel for free:
