Some answers, and a question.

1 - What F1 car has the best win/start ratio?

the '88 McLaren

2 - Who was the first F1 champion to die of natural causes?

First to win the championship, or first to die?

3 - Two F1 engine manufacturers won precisely 1 race, name then,

Gurney-Weslake is one...

4 - One engine manufacturer has a 100% win record in world championship grand prix. Who are they?

5 - Ignoring any Red Bull/Toro Rosso debates, what was the last genuine customer car entry in F1 and when?

Super Aguri's 2006 car (previously an arrows).

6 - And after naming them, name at least one other team who never built their own car.

Scuderia Italia (ran Dallaras, mostly)

7 - Name all 3 team names used by the company Frank Williams Racing Cars.

Walter Wolf Racing, Williams Grand Prix Engineering, Williams F1 Team?

8 - Other than anything already named or anyone still racing, name 2 teams that ran under more than 1 name (eg Jordan/Force India)

Leyton House/March. Footwork/Arrows.

9 - Name a team that only ever entered 1 F1 race.

Mastercard Lola

10 - And an easy one, name all of the current teams that have never changed constructor name.

McLaren, Williams, Ferrari

Ok it worked for Kiro, so here's a mini nerd's F1 team/car quiz that Kiro will immediately answer all of.

1 - What F1 car has the best win/start ratio?

2 - Who was the first F1 champion to die of natural causes?

3 - Two F1 engine manufacturers won precisely 1 race, name then,

4 - One engine manufacturer has a 100% win record in world championship grand prix. Who are they?

5 - Ignoring any Red Bull/Toro Rosso debates, what was the last genuine customer car entry in F1 and when?

6 - And after naming them, name at least one other team who never built their own car.

7 - Name all 3 team names used by the company Frank Williams Racing Cars.

8 - Other than anything already named or anyone still racing, name 2 teams that ran under more than 1 name (eg Jordan/Force India)

9 - Name a team that only ever entered 1 F1 race.

10 - And an easy one, name all of the current teams that have never changed constructor name.

Oooh! Erm...

1) Brabham BT46B Fan Car? (100%, got banned)

2) Denny Hulme?

3) Porsche were one, and I think Westlake. Both were Dan Gurney wins I think!

4) Tricky. I suspect you might be being clever with the Indy 500, in which case the ol' Offy (Offenhauser). If not then I genuinely have no clue!

5) Super Aguri were technically customers having hand-me-down Arrows and Hondas... but prior to that, I am guessing possibly de Vilotta's team running the March 821s in 1982?

6) Really old one this - Lexington (ran Ian Sheckter in the mid 1970s). They ran old Tyrrells IIRC.

7) ISO Marlboro, Williams and... er... Polotoys (Poletoys.. Politoys... something like that!)

8 ) Onyx/Monteverdi and March/Leyton House

9) Mastercard Lola

10) Ferrari, McLaren, Williams... that's it I guess! (HRT were Campos, then Hispania, then HRT).

Have just finished reading Mike Lang's Grand Prix! Vol 1 and 2 (1950 - 1979) which helped with a lot of these :D

2 I mean the first to die who had previously won.

As for the rest

For everyone else without clicking, RFT has correctly answered half of 3, 5,6 and 10. He's also given correct answers for 8 and 9 but of course there are more.

1 - Exactly the trap I hoped someone would fall into, there's at least one car with a 100% record, the McLaren of course didn't win 1 GP.

3 - That is indeed one of the 2, Beautiful car that Eagle.

5 - Indeed, I was planning to also accept the 1993 Scuderia Italia entry depending on how precisely we're defining the term. Speaking of which.

6 - Yep, Ran Lola in their last year.

7 - Again you've fallen into the subtle trap. All 3 are I believe wrong but the first is on the right track.

8 - Yep

9 - And indeed yep.

10 - And yep, although there's a very slight debate on Ferrari due to them running Lancia-Ferrari cars in the 50s and the whole NART fiasco

Kiro got the lot. Damn him.

There are of course more answers to 6,8 and 9.

1 - Yep :)

2 - Yep, 1992 of a heart attack.

3 - Both correct.

4 - I am being clever. So are you. The phrasing of the question was deliberate :)

5 - Correct but I'm surprised you forgot Scuderia Italia.

6 - I had to look that up, they weren't on my list. Seemingly correct :)

7 - Politoys yes :)

8 - Both correct

9 - Same answer as RFT :)

10 - And yeah it really is just the 3. And as I said in RFT's one you could host a debate over Ferrari.

Infinity costs more than a Sky sports sub ;)

It does? I'm paying £28 and that's on the top package. I've not seen Sky Sports that cheap (although it's possible to get Sky F1 that cheap)

Interesting article here about the exhausts, I think that if ferrari are at it as well then it shall be allowed and the other teams will follow suit and copy.

F1: New Blown Exhaust Saga Begins At Jerez

The exhaust outlets on the new Ferrari and McLaren aren't necessarily visible from a bird's eye view...

While stepped noses were still occupying some in the F1 paddock, the sport's purists were staring at the rear of the cars as the field of 2012 tested at Jerez on Tuesday.

With blown exhausts effectively banned this year, the new rules state that the outlets must now be visible from above.

But according to Auto Motor und Sport, the Ferrari and McLaren solutions are not necessarily visible from a bird's eye view, causing some insiders to predict a new controversy about the legality of cars this season.

So at Jerez, the game began.

"We have had a lot of correspondence with the FIA," said Ferrari designer Nikolas Tombazis. "We believe that what we are doing is legal."

McLaren's solution is also innovative, with the side 'bump' seen at the launch of the MP4-27 still on the car at Jerez.

One early analysis is that the team is using a rule loophole to cleverly redirect the exhaust air.

"There's always a chance that somebody will come up with something that's right on the border," said Red Bull designer Adrian Newey.

Added Lotus' James Allison: "So far we have a conservative solution," he commented on the day Kimi Raikkonen went quickest in the 2012 car.

"We will watch the competition and also what the FIA says. Depending on how much they will allow, we will act accordingly."

Some of the smaller teams are already expressing frustration.

"The FIA has said that the exhaust should no longer influence the aerodynamics. We support that and we will stick to that," said Toro Rosso's Giorgio Ascanelli.

Added Williams' Mark Gillan: "The rules are actually pretty clear and we are trying to be on the right side of them."

Yup, the glorious A9. Much hyped at the start of the year, designed by British Aerospace. Initially delayed when BAe went on strike and locked it in their factory for a few weeks! When the car did make it to Arrows they went to sort out the suspension and engine mounting points, only to discover the tub had been constructed without them so they couldn't actually attach any wheels or the engine. When it finally ran it had the structural rigidity of a wet noodle and the last time in Estoril I believe one of the wishbones pulled itself out of the mounting, at which point they quietly retired them. That photo is one of only three times the car ever ran!

.

EDIT: Dayte, wrong for the A9, but your answer does actually run true for this!

From the autosport live blog...

09:42 Edward Hardy from Australia asks: Have you had a chance to play as yourself in the new 'Formula 1 2011' video game? If so, how close would you say the game compares to driving an F1 car for real?

Heikki Kovalainen: I have played that game and I finished sixth in the championship as myself in the first year and got an offer from Ferrari! So I moved to Ferrari and won the next championship! It is a pretty good game, the physics for the first time since I can remember are fairly realistic so they have done a good job!

:D
