If my memory serves me correctly, if you timed it right the 6r4 and the rs200 were sold for fuck all at the end of their respective lives. Dealers couldn't give them away.

I heard a tale once from a chap at Cosworth that they only actually built 100 RS200s. They had the homologation guys see the 100 cars at Millbrook Proving ground, saying that the 2nd 100 were somewhere else. They then drove them to the second location before the guys counting could get there to be counted again.

It's only cheating if you get caught :D

The other story is that many of them ended up being used was the rally teams parts bin.

In other F1 news, valencia are next up to question their f1 involvement. 16 races a year anyone?

And senna has signed to williams according to one of the richest men in brazil, something else I find mildly uncomfortable.

That story is usually told about Ferrari in the 60s, I'd be surprised (but not totally) if that stunt still worked in the mid-80s.

I like the counterpart to that story about porsche - After FISA, as was, had been hoodwinked by Ferrari on the homolgation they declined Posche a homolgation on the 917 on the first visit as Ferdinand Peich showed them 12 complete cars and all the parts for the other 13 required cars. When the FISA delgate came back a week later (and frantic work at Porsche that saw workers pulled off the main production line to screw 917s together) he was shown a lineup of 25 complete cars. Peich then asked the delegate to pick any car he liked to test drive. The delegate declined. This is another reason why Ferdinand Peich is a Badass.

Lotus's rivals look set to be forced to copy its innovative reactive ride height system ahead of the 2012 season, with the FIA happy the concept is totally legal.

There has been much intrigue in recent days about the mechanism that Lotus was reported to have tried out at the Abu Dhabi young driver test last year.

The mechanical system helps maintain a standard ride height during braking - when often the front of the car would dip down.

Rivals teams are understood to have looked into the system and its legality over recent days - with a report in Gazzetta dello Sport this week suggesting it was driver adjusted by the use of a pedal in the cockpit.

However, if the drivers were changing the ride height of the cars under braking then that would be a breach of the rules.

Article 3.15 of the F1 Technical Regulations states: "With the exception of the parts necessary for the adjustment described in Article 3.18 [the DRS], any car system, device or procedure which uses driver movement as a means of altering the aerodynamic characteristics of the car is prohibited."

AUTOSPORT can reveal, however, that the adjustment to the ride height - which improves aerodynamic performance and stability on the Lotus under braking - does not come from the driver.

Instead it is reactive to brake torque and is linked directly to the suspension - so cannot be classified as a moveable aerodynamic device in the way that independent mass dampers were.

The fact that the driver is not involved, and that the system is a part of the suspension, means it complies fully with the F1 regulations.

AUTOSPORT understands that Lotus has been in liaison with the FIA throughout the development of the brake system, having first been proposed in 2010 and been given an official green light by the governing as long ago as January last year.

With the FIA happy that the brake system is legal, it means that its main rivals will now have to propose their own systems to the governing body if they want to adopt such a concept for the forthcoming season.

AUTOSPORT also understands that at least one front-running team has already submitted plans for a similar ride-height adjustment device to be used in 2012.

Brilliant, i used to love watching this back int he day - as was said before, going sideways is far more fun to watch than the modern stuff :blah:

It's been a few years since I've been to a rally, but I used to go to some occasionally. In latter times it was always a case of the top cars just tearing past and waiting for the smaller fish and local boys in older cars to provide proper entertainment.

I dunno..

Ohhh aye it had its moments and won plenty but people think of it as the best rally car ever but Peugeot did better with a car that gets barely any recognition these days and Lancia have a much better record in the same era etc.

Not taking anything away from it as it was a great car but mainly due to it being 4wd when others were not - innovative for sure but lets not get too carried away as a RWD car beat it between its championships and ol Walt could have won in it in the Lancia and beaten same said Audis...

Yeah, it's the 037s and the Deltas that immediately spring to mind when I think of Groub B. Sad thing that both cars were involved in tragedy :(.

The mid 1980's were epic for motorsport. You had the Group B's tearing around, Group C sportscars were in full swing and massively overpowered F1 cars with fat sticky slicks were the order of the day.

Just got off the phone after talking to a virgin media sales rep who confirmed they would be getting the F1 channel but you needed to sign up to the sports package.

Thanks to Bernie & the BBC there is no way to sign up to just pay for the F1 channel without taking out a package.

Thus for the 10 races the BBC are not going to show I will have no choice but to find a online feed :(

Can't find anything official on the virginmedia site yet about the F1 channel though so I would hold fire until they release some information. The sales rep was trying to get me to sign up to a tv package because I only have Internet & Telephone. I asked her will they be getting the sky f1 channel to which she said she would go and find out & call me back. An hour later she called to confirm they would but I needed to take out the sports package to get that channel, at that point I said thanks but I am not interested in a TV package. I think she was slightly taken a back.

Reading the VM forums I think Virgin have the channel but maybe have a NDA agreement until a certain date so Sky can try and get more customers to jump.

Cheapest package I can find on sky is £30 a month I was hoping Virgin would let you sign up to the channel on it's own by paying say £10 a month but it does not look like it thus I will need to trawl the dark side of the internet to find some dodgy internet streams
