Yes.Tes.Yes.Yes.Yes.: Future of Valencia Grand Prix in doubt

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/formula_one/16442297.stm

The future of the European Grand Prix in Valencia is in doubt after the city's government indicated that it wants to renegotiate its race fee.

Jose Ciscar, vice-president of the Generalitat Valenciana, said he was embarking on a "complete and thorough review" of the major events budget.

Valencia has a contract to host the race on a street circuit on the city's waterfront until 2014.

Ciscar does not rule out cancelling the race. "We do not discount anything."

He also said that he would be contacting F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone to discuss the city's wishes.

The move makes Valencia, which is reputed to pay in the region of 25 million Euros (£20.6m) a year to host the grand prix, the second race to ask Ecclestone to reduce F1's fees......................more

Looks like Bernie realises it is a fail and is manipulating an exit.

Exactly which part of that article indicates Bernie is trying to manipulate the race? It's quite clear from the text you pasted that it"s the hosts trying to bring down the cost of their existing arrangement rather than Ecclestone trying to sabotage the race or extort even more cash from them.

We all know he's a twat who is governed by lining his pockets, but it doesn't look anything like you suggest

It never does.

Bernie manipulates people to do what he wants.

Can we add Bernie: to The police, the Masons, Snakes with tits and Envory as things your going to be utterly bat shit mental and paranoid about ?

Yes Valencia is in trouble, but so are a lot of the circuits in Europe. Spa, is likely to sign a deal with Paul Ricard to share the french GP any day now. The Germans are looking to ditch either of theirs. Bernie wants to have 20 races, and i don't think he cares where they are. So he's not manipulating Valencia out, He's just saying "this is the price and there is some wriggle room but not a lot".

I don't think he cares one way or the other.

I think he cares, because Valencia is a bad product.

Bernie wants viewing figures so he can charge everyone more. The bigger the spectacle the more money he makes.

And Valencia is a snorefest, the worst race on the calendar by far.

Obviously he left it till this year to see if KERS and DRS would make a difference, they didn't.

It is easy for him to manipulate. A whisper in a few journalist's ears about value for money when Spain's economy is crashing, leading to questions being asked of politicians, leading to negotiations that unfortunately fail to save the day.

The biggest problem with the Tilke tracks is that they either have huge run off areas that result in no on track punishment for the drivers (Bahrain) or they're in countries that just don't care (Korea, Turkey)

Given that several 'historic' tracks have had the previous gravel traps filled in with tarmac, I'm not sure this is a Tilke thing as such. F1 in general seems to be removing all of the punishment from going wide.

Are there any sign up only streaming sites for sports that will show F1? There's one for football

This I need to find. Seen as though I can't get Sky over here, I don't even have the option to crumble and subscribe. The only thing though is who will stream the full three day set of sessions along with all the interviews and in between bits?

Absolutely shocking.

You know that F1 2011 app? That you could download for Android from Formula1.com last year.

It was free and provided live timing on races when you were away from a TV, I used it loads. I was looking forward to this years release so as to get live update when races were on Sky. Well it seems they aren't offering a free one this year, but a third parties version that yes, has more functionality but cost £19.99! For a sodding app. How do they justify that? It actually made me angry. Heh.

You'll probably see a free one pop up just before the season starts. They did the same thing last year; looked like there was only a ridiculously expensive paid version available, then the free one snuck out quietly just before everything kicked off.

Well, it would be nice if it was cheaper, but that paid app actually is very good. Live driver tracker and all that, especially good on a tablet. It works out at £1 per race, and I'd say its worth it.
