The Formula 1 Thread

Fingers crossed the former... or that they just want to spend every last second getting it ready. Obvious bias that I try to hide aside, it would be great if they were back up there fighting for wins.

Peter Gethin died today - raced in F1 in the early 1970s for McLaren and BRM, and won the 1971 Italian GP in the closest finish ever. Highlights below! Team manager at Toleman during Senna's year there.

Oh, and I believe he is the only F1 driver to have won a race without ever having led a full lap.

Awesome clip.

Reminds me of this:

Ben Collins, or Martin Haven. with Brundle and Ant Davidson doing the drivers view. Jake Humphrey doing the anchor role, EJ doing the pit lane with the Radio Le mans Nick Damon team replacing what's name.

Actually i'd have John Hindhough with Brundle or Davidson in the box

I reckon Croft with Brundle in the commentary box - possibly Davidson and Croft for practice sessions (hopefully, anyway). Rider in the studio along with Tony Jardine and a rotating selection of guests like Fat Nige, Damon etc. Hopefully Ted Kravitz running around the pits.

Dream Team

Rider, Legard, Allen, Jardine, Fernandez!

*shudder*

Caught up with the final F1 Forum. That was a wonderful bit of F1 TV, such a shame for it to crash out during Jenson's overtake conversation though. Sad way to end it.

Eddie stomping into the Ferrari press conference has to be one of the highlights of the season and a testament to just how in tune the BBC were with F1. Total access, and a fearful respect to let them do what they want. You can't bring in outsiders and let them demand such access like that. For stuff like the forum, Sky can only hope to mimic cause I don't think you can attempt to beat. What other ex-team bosses are out there with the tenacity of Eddie?

Yeah, that only works because of the people. Brundle can do it, EJ can do it. And tbh, that's why I'd defend EJ against anything people have said about his inclusion in the coverage, because the man gets results.

Dragging Stefano out of the garage after "Alonso is faster than you" is worth every penny they paid him on its own.

I like Blundell, he was at Le Mans a few years back with the MG squad. as we were wondering around the paddock he stopped eating his lunch and came over to have a chat with us fans. Not giving it all the "big i am" just having a laugh and signing a few programs. Top bloke.

He still has his hand in, running in the Grand am Series in the states and a few other ones offs here and he manages a bunch of drivers.

It's a testament to how much things have changed in the last few years that I'd like to see James Allen get a role. Not commentating, but I think he'd be good as the presenter.

I agree, or even down in the pit lane or something, used to enjoy his live twitter updates during a race weekend too.

I met him in Montreal once while he was still working for ITV, he was a very friendly and accommodating person.

Oh yeah, comes over as a nice bloke. But he's a rubbish pundit. As dry as TJ.

Plus 1 for blundell being a really nice chap. I've chatted with him on email a few times & he's never been anything other than awesome!
