That's the reason I don't think they should be there. I don't agree with Pay drivers.

Interesting, because there are some surprising names that were pay drivers at one point or another in F1. A notable one being a Mr Fernando Alonso.

And of course almost every driver in GP2/GP3 and everything below is a "Pay driver".

Hell, if you define pay driver as "Is directly responsible for bringing major sponsorship to a team" then he still is, and so is Adrian Sutil and Daniel Ricciardo. And if you're being REALLY picky and expand it to "Major sponsor chose the driver and brought them into F1", both Toro Rosso drivers and Sebastian Vettel.

EDIT : Actually to a degree, also Massa.

Good points well made. Ok let me re-phrase pay drivers like malondado who paid for the seat & are terrible. It stifles talent who haven't got the funds. Someone like Alonso fair play. I wasn't aware that was how he initially got his seat but he's more than proved himself as one of the best drivers on the grid.

I don't see why Maldonado is terrible (aside from the Spa incident)

He seems to have performed pretty similarly to Rubens, who as I pointed out to Brucie earlier in the thread is a pretty reliable benchmark as F1 drivers go.

Hulkenberg looked arguably weaker vs Barrichello when he had the seat, and Barrichello was pretty close to Button in the Brawns.

Maldonado is a champion of GP2. That's more qualification than Alonso had when he entered F1. (As well as half the rest of the field, including world champions Schumacher, Raikkonen and Button)

Hell, Button's first season involved him getting utterly spanked by Ralf fucking Schumacher, let alone a recent race winner like Rubens. 3rd place in British F3, spanked by Ralf, you could argue at that point he should have been dumped into obscurity.

I'm not saying he deserves the seat (although the car is an unbelievable dog) but his lower formula results merited an F1 drive in the first place.

Would Sky be able to provide camera feeds from several/all cockpits to choose from? That would be pretty sweet.

Also the ability for the commentary crew to show more ghost car comparisons through sectors (similar to what Brundle does with split screen sometimes) would be nice.

I think everyone just gets the same feed. So they rely on the race director to decide what gets shown. They can insert their own stuff from their cameras from the paddock or wherever, as BBC sometimes do. Obviously they can't have their own on the cars.

Are cameras, other than the official race broadcaster ones, allowed in the pits during the race? Like when Ted is talking from there? Or is it strictly a guy with his mic so there's not too many in the way?

How much access to footage is there post race? Could they get all the in car footage and allow a choice in that way? Obviously not during the race, but people might still watch the race in replay with camera choices.

Didn't realize so many seats where still open. It's just for the teams further back but still interesting. I forgot about Torro Rosso which in my mind is not such a bad seat to be honest

Spanish woman racer Maria de Villota has an agreement to be the Lotus (formerly Renault) team's reserve driver next season. "Really it's just a matter of the contract being signed, but all parties agree," she said.

Is that the 1st woman driver proper in F1? As in part of the team inc being a reserve driver. Does that mean she will be out in FP1 on a Thur / Friday?

There have been a few :). Back in 'the day' (the 1950's) there was Marie Teresa de Fillipis. Desire Wilson tried to qualify for a few F1 races in the 1970's/early 1980's but never quite made the cut. She was pretty good though and won an Aurora Series race at Brands (series that used year-old F1 cars and was quite popular).

Most famous was Lella Lombardi, who scored a point when the 1975 Spanish Grand Prix got stopped due to a car flying over a wall and into some marshals (pretty bad scene). She's the only woman to have scored a point in F1 and was a decent driver - sadly she died quite a while ago from cancer. Most recent was Giovanna Amati who signed with Brabham for 1992. She was utterly useless though and after failing to pre qualify they replaced her with Damon Hill after a couple of races.

Nope, there have been a few before but none since the 70s. The most famous was Lella Lombardi I believe - she drove for March and in one GP for Williams.

It isn't, it's a publicity stunt. She's not even in the top 20 women qualified for that role and when she's shit she'll put the case for women's drivers back another 20 years just like Amati did.

Di Silvestro, Gachnang, Legge, Stoddart, Patrick, Beatriz, Fisher, Frey... all better road course drivers, even before we talk about drivers like Alice Powell and Louise Richardson who have actually won championships.

Basically this is horrible, horrible news, should this Channoch Nissany of a woman take so much as a start, she'll be the excuse for women not getting a chance in motorsport for a decade or more.

Yup. It's Eric Boullier coming to the realisation that the Lotus branding his team has is on very thin ice due to them basing their financial contribution on selling brand new luxury cars in a difficult market, and the fact that this Genii Capital lot who are also investors are, from whispers, not coughing up the cash. Hence he's pretty much building up any kind of interest/cash he can get from elsewhere.

Don't be surprised if at the launch of their new car they have about four or five reserve drivers present, all of whom have substantial backers but questionable ability.
